Definition
- Area measures the space inside shapes.
Relating Area to Multiplication
- Finding the area is like counting how many square units fit inside a shape.
- You multiply the length and width to find out how many squares fit inside a shape.
- Example: If a square has sides of 5 cm, its area is 5 cm × 5 cm = 25 square cm.
Relating Area to Addition
- You can find the area of complex shapes by adding the areas of smaller shapes inside.
- Example: To find the area of an L-shaped figure, you can add the area of two rectangles.
Area as Tiling
- Imagine covering a shape with square tiles. The number of tiles used is the area.
- Example: To find the area of a rectangle, you can cover it with square tiles and count them.

Area Formula
- Square - Side A x Side A.
- Rectangle - Length x Breadth.
