How is chocolate made?
- Step 1: The cocoa pods are removed from the tree
- Step 2: The pods are open carefully without damaging the seeds inside
- Step 3: The sticky beans are buried in an Earthy pot or pit covered with banana leaves
- Step 4: It begins to ferment, so it changes from bitter- sour - sweet
- Step 5: The beans are then removed and sun dried
- Final Step: The beans are transferred to factory for making chocolate candies
What is Cocoa?
- It is a ridged pod or even called a fruit
- The Actual pod has an encasement of white sticky pulp with 30 seeds
- The pulp is kind of sweet and sour; some countries make some hot drinks with it
- The seeds are actually used for making chocolate; It is extremely bitter
Fun Facts about chocolates
- 1. It takes 4000 cocoa beans to make 1 pound of chocolate
- 2. Each tree contains 2,500 - 3,000 cocoa beans
- 3. Cocoa can also be spelt 'Cacao' or 'Cacoa'
