CONCLUDING A NARRATIVE
When it comes to concluding a
narrative, there are many ways to
choose from.TIPS
*take into account the theme, the plot,
and the genre of your essay.
*mirror the introduction
*summarize the main idea
*be memorableWAYS TO CONCLUDE
- BEING A PART OF THE ACTION
- Use action to provide the perfect ending. Immerse yourself
into the story/narrative and use physical senses
to narrate what you saw, smelt, heard, felt,
or said, letting actions speak for you.
REFLECTING
- Make sure you take your essay into account as you
choose to reflect or look back on memories, or be nostalgic.
Examples of reflection are you wishing or hoping for something in the end.
LEAVING IT AMBIGUOUS
- Sometimes, the best way to end something, is not to end it atall! Leave the reader hanging by the edge of the literary cliff,by not giving away what happened in the end. Example- "It was atthat point, that the lights went out..."
USING DIALOGUE
- Use dialogues only if you are certain of it, especially in caseswhere the narrative does not lead to a moral or an advice,
and ideally has more than one character in it. Example-
"His only remark to it was, 'Well, you never know'."
USING QUOTATIONS
- Quotations are additions and embellishments for your essay.Use them accurately, and cite the owner. Example- "In light of
what happened that day, I can say that it has been well remarked
by Eleanor Roosevelt, "If life were predictable it would cease to be life"
