James Naismith
- Born in Canada in 1861
- Worked in YMCA Training School, Massachusetts
- in YMCA, he was asked to invent a game
Origin of Basketball
- Naismith sowed a new game on Dec 21, 1891
- The game had 5 basic ideas and 13 rules
- 2 peach baskets were kept at both ends of the field
- There were 9 players on each team
- They used a soccer ball to play
- By 1906, it started resembling the modern game
American Basketball Association (ABA)
- Had great flair
- Had red white and blue ball
- High flying players
- Wild and colorful uniforms
National Basketball Association (NBA)
- More traditional team
- This was a better known league
- Had established teams such as Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers
