  • SINGULAR AND PLURAL NOUNS

    • The plural form of most nouns end with -s

      1.  bottle - bottles
      2. Pencil - Pencils
      3. Book - Books
      4. Sentence -I have four story books with me.
    • For nouns that end in (-s, -ch, -x, -z, -sh), -es is added in the plural form  

      1. Box - Boxes
      2. Watch - Watches
      3. Bus - Buses
      4. Example - There are ten boxes on the table.
    • For nouns ending in -f or -fe , change -f  or -fe to v and add -es

      1. wife - wives
      2. leaf - leaves
      3. Knife - Knives
      4. Example - The wind swept the leaves away.
    • For nouns ending in -y  or -o, the rules are not definite.

      1. Baby - Babies
      2. Toy - Toys
      3. Potato - Potatoes
      4. Stereo - Stereos
      5. Example - The baby has many toys .
    • Some nouns have different plural forms

      1. Child - Children
      2. Man - Men
      3. Woman - Women
      4. Example - Children should be encouraged to read more.
    • Few nouns have the same singular and plural forms.

      1. Sheep - sheep
      2. Deer - Deer
      3. Species - Species
      4. Example - Many species of plants and animals are endangered due to pollution.
