- June 3rd, 1965 - launched its first manned space capsule in a program called 'Gemini'
- It was commanded by Astronaut James Mcdivitt and accompanied by Edward White
- Edward White walked in space for 23 minutes connected to a 23ft long tether
- About 120 miles above Earth, White used hand - held oxygen-jet to push himself out of the capsule

- was also United States Airforce Officer, Test Pilot and NASA Astronaut
