Top Rated Apps for Place Value:
Quick, round 767 to the nearest hundreds! Did you get, 800? You must be quite the erudite. Or you had a great elementary math teacher! It’s way more challenging to define the concept of place value. Many of us learned this fundamental concept playing with blocks. The single blocks were “ones.” Then we fit ten of them together to make “tens.” Two, tens, equaled 20, of course. If we had enough blocks, we could make a perfect ten by ten square, or one “hundreds” representation.
There are not enough block toys to go around. That’s why using place value charts and worksheets are necessary. Kids can practice place value, making sure digits are in the correct places as numbers get larger, and as they get smaller. Place value charts with decimals give them repetitive practice learning their “tenths,” “hundredths,” “thousandths,” and so on.
