Lesson on Drawing Inferences CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.2 - By Carnita McCray
00:00 | today's lesson is on drawing emphasis . Students will practice
00:05 | defining in front , choosing appropriate emphasis and making inferences
00:11 | on their own making emphasis . Readers can understand more
00:29 | about a story and its characters . If they look
00:32 | for clues and what the characters do and say ,
00:39 | As you look at this picture , I want you
00:41 | to think , What is she doing ? Where is
00:46 | she going ? Look at her . It's higher .
00:51 | What does she put it on ? As we can
01:09 | see in this picture , she is putting on her
01:11 | coat so the weather may be cold outside , and
01:18 | we would definitely wear pants in the winter . When
01:23 | making an effort . You are using background and observation
01:28 | to reach a conclusion . And the picture we use
01:32 | our background knowledge of knowing cold weather means wearing a
01:36 | coat by observing the girl putting her coat on .
01:40 | We knew it was cold outside . Next is a
01:45 | video I like you tow watch on emphasis and all
02:04 | right , you guys pull over . That's the bank's
02:07 | money right there . I caught you red handed .
02:09 | You're going to spend a long time behind bars .
02:12 | Cut . They're not going to jail . That's not
02:17 | in the script . Are you serious ? check it
02:20 | out . First you leap onto their car and you
02:24 | all right , you guys pull over and then you
02:28 | say , That's the bank's money right there . Then
02:32 | I caught you red handed . Then nothing . See
02:35 | , there is no line about spending time behind bars
02:39 | . I guess I made an inference . The hero
02:42 | said he made an inference . Let's see why .
02:47 | I mean , look , the alarm is going off
02:50 | at the bank . They're running from the police on
02:53 | . They have bags of cash from the bank in
02:56 | the car . I made an inference that they were
02:58 | going to jail because of what they did . You
03:01 | made an inference . What on earth are you talking
03:04 | about ? Well , I read the text . I
03:07 | thought about what I know . And so I made
03:09 | an inference . Oh , now I get it .
03:13 | Of course , in real life they'd have to be
03:16 | arrested and charged , and there'll be a tri ALS
03:18 | and lawyers . And before we knew for sure there
03:21 | were going to jail . What if I say you
03:25 | guys we're going to need a good lawyer ? Yes
03:29 | , that works for me . All right , everyone
03:32 | . We'll do it again . The hero said he
03:43 | made an inference because can you name those three reasons
03:48 | ? Why the hero maden ? Inference . If you
04:02 | said the alarm at the bank was sound and off
04:06 | , the men were running from the police and they
04:09 | had bags of money from the bank . You are
04:12 | correct . I mean , look , the alarm is
04:19 | going off at the bank . They're running from the
04:21 | police on . They have bags of cash from the
04:24 | bank in the car . I made an inference that
04:27 | they were going to jail because of what they did
04:31 | next . We're going to draw inferences from a passage
04:34 | will be reading , followed by a group assignment .
04:38 | If you are accessing this lesson through my website ,
04:41 | worksheets are available for your convenience . The Dell got
04:56 | off . Family had a new puppy named Lady .
04:59 | She was a playful puppy . She especially playing with
05:04 | the garden holes . She loves to watch the holes
05:06 | wiggle like a snake . When she chewed on it
05:09 | one day , Mr Delgado saw Lady dragged the garden
05:12 | holes across the yard . Not again , he said
05:17 | as he hung the holes on the hook that was
05:19 | on the side of the house . It was the
05:21 | fifth time this week that lady had taken the hose
05:24 | down from its hook . Mr Delgado have tried to
05:27 | teach her not to do it . He pointed to
05:30 | the host each time and said with the stern voice
05:33 | , No , lady , don't play with the holes
05:36 | . It hadn't helped . Why do you think Mr
05:48 | Delgado didn't want lady to chew on the whole ?
05:59 | The next day , Mr Delgado went outside to water
06:02 | his vegetable garden . Once again , he found the
06:06 | whole stretched across the yard . Lady playfully picked it
06:10 | up in her teeth when she saw him , many
06:13 | will came outside . Hi , Dad , he said
06:17 | . May I help water ? The garden manual picked
06:20 | up the holes , and Mr Delgado turned on the
06:23 | water on Lee . A few drops of water fell
06:26 | on the plants . They saw water springing up from
06:29 | tiny holes all over the holes . Manual looked at
06:46 | Lady , You're sharp teeth made those holes , lady
06:49 | , you turned our holes into a fountain , he
06:51 | said . Lady wagged her tail proudly manual , and
06:56 | his father took the hose to the garage . They
06:59 | used rubber glue to mend it . I don't know
07:02 | how to teach lady to leave the holes alone ,
07:04 | said Mr Delgado . Once they had repaired the holes
07:10 | good top class nine to review based off what we
07:17 | run over . We know that inferences are predictions of
07:21 | what you think is going to happen . You use
07:23 | background knowledge and observation to draw inferences . In the
07:27 | video , the hero drew inferences that the criminals were
07:30 | going to jail because of three reasons . And the
07:35 | story Lady in the holes we learned in CDelgado did
07:38 | not want Lady to play with the holes because she
07:41 | would chew with her teeth and based off our knowledge
07:45 | . We know that puppies when they chew things ,
07:47 | they have really sharp teeth and they mess it up
07:51 | so he didn't want his holes to be messed up
07:56 | . Well , class , that's the end . Now
07:59 | we will get into our assigned groups to do an
08:02 | assignment where we are going to draw inferences based off
08:05 | what you think is in my bag and why .
08:08 | If you are accessing this lesson through my website ,
08:11 | worksheets are available for your convenience . Thank you for
08:14 | your time . Later |
