00:04 today we're going to compare and contrast key details presented
00:08 in two texts on the same topic . Our key
00:11 strategy today will be using a Venn diagram . Hey
00:15 , readers , Miss Bedell here . I'm sure you
00:17 guys have noticed that there are tons of books on
00:19 any given topic . If you wanted to take out
00:22 a book on snow , you probably have 1000 books
00:24 to choose from . That happened to me the other
00:26 day . Let me tell you about it . I
00:28 wanted to plan a field trip to the Museum of
00:30 Science and Industry , but I wanted to learn a
00:32 little bit about it first . So eyebrows , some
00:36 books and eyebrows , some websites and there were some
00:38 really helpful things I found . Here's an encyclopedia entry
00:42 that I found . I'm going to take notes while
00:44 I read . If you want to do the same
00:45 , you can pause the video at any time .
00:47 Here we go . The Museum of Science and Industry
00:50 is located in Chicago , Illinois . It's the largest
00:53 museum in the entire Western Hemisphere . The museum has
00:56 over 2000 exhibits located in its 75 major halls .
01:00 Some of the main attractions include a replica coal mine
01:03 that recreates the experience of working in a coal mine
01:05 . Ah German , you five of five submarine captured
01:07 during World War Two and a Science of Storms exhibit
01:10 . The MSC is housed in the former Palace of
01:12 Fine Arts Ah , building that was made for the
01:14 18 93 World's Fair . I wrote all of those
01:18 fax down in my notes here . I'm going to
01:21 keep all these facts in mind when I read my
01:23 next article . The other helpful article I found was
01:25 a block post written by woman who keeps a blogged
01:27 about all of her travels . Here's what she said
01:30 . While I was in Chicago , I made a
01:32 point to visit the Museum of Science and Industry .
01:34 It's one of the largest museums of its kind and
01:37 is home to many impressive exhibits . While I really
01:40 enjoyed experiencing the coal mine exhibit , my favorite exhibit
01:43 had to be calling Moore's very castle because it houses
01:46 thousands of priceless artifacts and relics from around the world
01:49 . The museum is located right along Chicago's waterfront in
01:52 his next to a large park . So when we
01:54 finished looking at the exhibits , we got to enjoy
01:56 the beautiful scenery and I made sure to write down
01:59 all of these facts in my notes readers , I'm
02:02 sure you're noticing the same thing . I am thes
02:04 Two articles have a lot in common , but there
02:07 are also some things that make them pretty different .
02:09 Let's take a look . Here are all the notes
02:11 I took on both articles side by side . This
02:14 makes it easier for us to compare and contrast the
02:17 articles , take a minute to look at these notes
02:20 and think about what similar between the articles and what's
02:22 different now . I want to organize all of my
02:29 information so that it's all in one place , a
02:31 good strategy for that . It's called Ben Diagram .
02:34 That's why I put all of my notes on sick
02:36 ease that'll make them easy to organize within a Venn
02:39 diagram . This is my Venn diagram . This whole
02:42 circle is for the facts I learned in the encyclopedia
02:45 . Entry on this whole circle is for the facts
02:49 I learned in the triple bottles . That means this
02:53 area here where they intersect . That's what the fact
02:55 that I learned in both the encyclopedia entry and travel
02:59 block post . Let's take a minute to think back
03:01 to what we just learned in those articles . What
03:03 are some good bags that I can put in my
03:04 pin diagram ? Hm ? Well , the first thing
03:09 that I learned in both articles was that the Museum
03:12 of Science and Industry is located in Chicago . So
03:14 I'm gonna put that back in the area where the
03:17 two circles in your socks . Perfect . Now ,
03:22 while we're working in this area , what are some
03:24 other facts that we learned from both articles ? Hm
03:29 ? Great job readers . Both articles talk about how
03:31 the MSC is one of the biggest museums of its
03:34 kind . So put that fact right in the middle
03:37 is Well , you know , I also remember that
03:40 both of the articles talked about exhibits , so I
03:43 think I'll put that fact in the middle also .
03:47 But do you remember which article talked about which exhibit
03:53 ? So they both talked about the replica coal mine
03:56 , but on Lee , the encyclopedia article mentioned the
03:58 U 505 submarine and the science of storms exhibit Onley
04:02 . The travel block post mentioned Colin Morris . Very
04:05 castle . That means that the coal mine exhibit card
04:09 goes right in the middle . Wow . They really
04:11 do have a lot in common but you five of
04:14 five submarine fact and the science of storm exhibit fact
04:17 . Go on , lean on the encyclopedia side And
04:22 on Lee , the Travel Walk post mentions the fairy
04:24 castle . So that will go over here . We're
04:26 doing a great job , readers . Let's take one
04:28 last look at our notes and then finish up our
04:29 friend diagram . This fact says that the museum is
04:36 housed in the former Palace of Fine arts . Where
04:39 did you read that again ? Right . The encyclopedia
04:42 article . Okay , I'll put that right here .
04:45 Right . And the other article mentioned that it was
04:47 a long , beautiful park in along the lakefront .
04:50 Cool . Okay , put that fact over here .
04:55 All right . We only have two left . See
04:58 what they say . This one says that is for
05:02 the article that was entirely factual . No opinions at
05:05 all . Well , three encyclopedia article only setbacks because
05:08 that's what encyclopedias are . Okay , put that over
05:12 here right in the block . Post had some facts
05:15 , but some opinions , because that's what wall costar
05:18 was about . The authors experience . All right ,
05:21 but that over here Wait . That's awesome . We're
05:24 done . Here's our fans diagram . Great job readers
05:27 while you're working on your challenges . Don't forget to
05:29 take notes in your reading journal . And don't forget
05:31 to use our key strategy either . Making the diagram
05:33 . All right , readers . Good luck .
