00:01 Okay , So we are going to learn about ,
00:04 um , multisyllabic words now , and that is words
00:08 that have more than one syllable and a couple of
00:12 things . I want you to keep in mind when
00:14 we are learning . Thio Mark multisyllabic words is how
00:21 are we going to divide those words up ? And
00:23 there's a couple things I want you to keep in
00:25 mind . Is it a compound word ? And that
00:29 means is it too small words that are put together
00:32 to make a new word ? If so , then
00:35 we just divide the syllables between those two little words
00:39 . And if it's not a compound word , you're
00:42 going to look between the two vowels that you find
00:45 in the word . Okay , so we'll keep those
00:47 things in mind . Let's go ahead and look at
00:53 a multi syllabic word . This is a word that
00:57 has two syllables . A few clap out slingshot .
01:01 You will hear two claps in there . I'm gonna
01:05 go get a tool toe mark this word and I
01:09 see that the word is slingshot and this is a
01:15 compound word , because if you look , you can
01:17 see two small words . There's the word sling in
01:20 the words shot so if it's a compound word that
01:24 makes it easy , because then we scoop each small
01:28 word , so we'll scoop , sling and we'll scoop
01:31 shut . And then we have to decide what kinds
01:35 of other marks do we need ? Well , slipping
01:39 is a closed syllable word . Because of that short
01:43 vowel and shot is also a closed syllable word .
01:49 I'm sorry , Closed syllable because of that short vowel
01:54 in there . Did you notice that there's a glued
01:57 sound ing ? And how about that Dia grass ?
02:05 There's also a blend . So now that we've looked
02:08 over everything and seeing everything that gets marked , this
02:11 is the way it should look when you mark up
02:15 the word slingshot . Now let's try the word Goblin
02:22 . How about if you write Goblin on your white
02:25 board and I'll give you a chance to market with
02:29 me ? Goblin . Does that sound like a compound
02:35 word ? Are there two small words that are put
02:38 together ? I don't see too small words in here
02:44 , so that means we're going to use our other
02:47 strategy . We're going to see the two vowels in
02:52 the word goblin . Here's one right here . There's
02:55 a no , and there's an I I want you
02:58 to look between those two vowels and see what you
03:01 find . There are two continents . If those two
03:07 continents are not a diagram , if then we just
03:11 split up those two continents than we just scoop to
03:19 their . And then between those two continents is where
03:22 we start our next group . So we have gob
03:26 Lynn once again . Now we'll look at each of
03:30 these two syllables and see what kinds of marks it
03:32 is . What kind of a syllable is gab ?
03:36 Do you hear that Short vowel sound ? Yeah ,
03:39 that's a closed syllable . Lynn . That's also a
03:45 short vowel sound . So it's also a closed syllable
03:51 . Very good . All right , So how about
03:54 we try another one ? This is another multisyllabic word
03:58 . It's two syllables publish . Do you see a
04:05 compound word when you look at publish ? Well ,
04:10 I've heard of the word pub , but not Lish
04:13 . I don't think that's a word . So this
04:16 isn't , um , one of those words where we
04:18 have to look at the vowels , see what's between
04:23 . That's not a diagram . So I can split
04:25 those two things up . So I'm going to have
04:30 Hub Lesh . What kind of a syllables publish Yeah
04:41 , it's a closed syllable because of that short valve
04:46 . And again , here's a short vowel , so
04:50 I give it a brave . It's a closed syllable
04:55 . Forget the DIA graph job . Here's another multisyllabic
05:03 word . This is again a two syllable word blindfold
05:08 . Once you go ahead and write blindfold on your
05:12 white boards right now , give you a moment to
05:15 copy it down . But , oh , find old
05:25 blind fold . Is blindfold a compound word ? Is
05:36 it too small words put together ? It is .
05:42 There's the word blind and the word fold . So
05:48 when we have a compound , word like that makes
05:51 it easy to split it up into two syllables because
05:55 we simply scoop one of the words . And then
05:59 we scoop the other little word . So this becomes
06:03 our first syllable and then our second syllable blindfold .
06:08 Now look at thes syllables closely . Are these closed
06:14 syllables , or do you notice that there's a long
06:21 vowel sound ? I and oh blind fold ? Hopefully
06:29 , you notice that that means thes are close syllable
06:35 exceptions because they have a long vowel sound , even
06:41 though there's one or more continents after that vowel .
06:46 Hopefully you see that I M D is like find
06:54 I find o l d Cold old . Here's a
07:04 blend and that's how you mark blindfold . Okay ,
07:13 here's your chance . This word is nutmeg . It's
07:18 a spice . Maybe you've used it before . If
07:20 you've ever helped anybody do some baking nutmeg , you
07:25 decide . Is that a compound word or not ?
07:31 Go ahead and write nutmeg on your white board .
07:36 See if you can market correctly . See if you
07:42 know where to divide those two syllables . Go ahead
07:51 and mark nutmeg . I'm gonna go ahead and start
08:05 marking , and you can check to see if you
08:08 marked it the way that I did . Short vowel
08:19 sound . Short vowel sound . These air closed syllables
08:25 . Nutmeg . Now let's try marking the word dentist
08:35 . Okay , go ahead and write Dentist on your
08:39 white board . Dentist is a two syllable word .
08:44 It's a multi syllabic . It's kind of a fancy
08:47 word . The , uh , it dentist Does that
08:59 look and sound like a compound word to you ?
09:05 I don't see two little words there . I don't
09:08 . I see the word den . But typist is
09:11 not a word or Dent is a word . But
09:15 ist is not a word . So this is not
09:17 a compound word that means we're going thio . Look
09:21 again at the two vowels this e and this eye
09:25 and see what's between them . And that's not a
09:29 diagram f so we can split them up so them
09:33 . And that means when we scoop , we're gonna
09:34 scoop den in test . What kind of a syllable
09:40 is den ? It's closed . It has a short
09:47 vowel sound , so we'll give it that brave about
09:51 typist that's also a closed syllable with a short vowel
09:57 sound . Anything else that you see needs marked .
10:02 How about a blend right here ? Two continents next
10:06 to each other ? That's a blend . Well ,
10:10 you did a good job marking multisyllabic words today .
10:16 That's a lot of marking that you did see if
10:19 you can impress somebody at home with a using this
10:22 word multisyllabic words that just means there's more than one
10:28 syllable . Alright , great job today and keep up
10:33 the good work . Well , marks more words next
10:35 time . Hi
