Understanding Geometry | MathHelp.com

By MathHelp.com

This lesson covers wind and current problems. Students learn to solve wind and current word problems using a system of linear equations, as demonstrated in the following problem. Into a headwind, the plane flew 2000 miles in 5 hours. With a tailwind, the return trip took 4 hours. Find the speed of the plane in still air and the speed of the wind. The two variables used in this problem are p, the speed of the plane in still air, and w, the speed of the wind. So the speed of the plane with a tailwind can be represented as p + w, and the speed of the plane against a headwind can be represented as p -- w. Note that this problem requires a chart to organize the information. The chart is based on the formula rate times time = distance. The chart is then used to set up the two equations.

Conservation of Energy Physics Problems

By The Organic Chemistry Tutor

This physics video tutorial explains how to solve conservation of energy problems with friction, inclined planes and springs.

Velocity Time Graphs, Acceleration & Position Time Graphs - Physics

By The Organic Chemistry Tutor

This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into motion graphs such as position time graphs, velocity time graphs, and acceleration time graphs. It explains how to use area and slope to calculate the velocity, acceleration, displacement, and whether if the particle is speeding up or slowing down. It also explains how to determine if the velocity is increasing or if the acceleration is positive.

How To Solve Doppler Effect Physics Problems

By The Organic Chemistry Tutor

This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the doppler effect of moving sound waves. it explains how to solve doppler effect problems in physics. Any time the source moves toward the observer or if the observer moves toward the source, the detected frequency will increase - that is - the observed frequency will be greater than the frequency emitted by the source. The source can be an ambulance truck or a police siren. If the source moves away from the observer or if the observer moves away from the source, the detected frequency will decrease. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems of calculated the frequency detected by the observer.

Rotational Dynamics - Basic Introduction

By The Organic Chemistry Tutor

This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into rotational dynamics. It explains how to calculate the acceleration of a hanging mass attached to a rotating pulley. Examples include pulleys with two hanging masses (atwood machine) and inclined planes with pulleys and kinetic friction.

10th Grade Modeling with Systems of Equations

By

10th grade math lesson on modeling with systems of equations. The lesson involved high school modeling standard A.CED.A.2 from the MA Curriculum Frameworks for Mathematics, which specifies creating equations in two or more variables.
