| 00:21 | made up of four very different parts that all work | |
| 00:24 | together to make earth the lovely place that we know | |
| 00:26 | it to be . We call these parts spheres . | |
| 00:29 | And between them they contain all the stuff on our | |
| 00:31 | planet . Everything from the fish in the ocean to | |
| 00:34 | the air we breathe . Earth has four spheres . | |
| 00:37 | The geo sphere , the biosphere , the hydro sphere | |
| 00:40 | and the atmosphere . So what exactly are the spheres | |
| 00:44 | ? And what's in them ? Let's take a look | |
| 00:50 | at to the geo sphere and the biosphere up first | |
| 00:53 | is the geo sphere . Geo comes from the greek | |
| 00:56 | word for ground . You may have heard this before | |
| 00:59 | in words like geology or geography . It basically means | |
| 01:02 | having to do with the earth and in a way | |
| 01:05 | the geo sphere is kind of like the skeleton of | |
| 01:07 | our planet . All of the other spheres are built | |
| 01:10 | on top of it . It's made up of all | |
| 01:12 | the rocks and minerals on earth . From the biggest | |
| 01:14 | boulders to the tiniest grains of sand and all of | |
| 01:17 | the landforms that those rocks and minerals makeup are part | |
| 01:20 | of the geo sphere . To , I'm talking volcanoes | |
| 01:23 | , canyons , beaches , mountains , you name it | |
| 01:27 | . If it's made out of solid earth , it's | |
| 01:29 | part of the geo sphere . Now , it's important | |
| 01:31 | to remember that the geo sphere includes only non living | |
| 01:35 | stuff , living things do need to eat though , | |
| 01:37 | and all living things are part of another one of | |
| 01:40 | Earth's fears . The biosphere bio is greek for life | |
| 01:44 | and like Geo , you've probably heard it before in | |
| 01:47 | words like biology , the study of life . The | |
| 01:50 | biosphere is made up of many different bio mom's bio | |
| 01:54 | msar regions that have similar kinds of plants , animals | |
| 01:57 | and other living things that have adapted to live in | |
| 01:59 | that particular regions , terrain and climate , deserts and | |
| 02:02 | forests are types of bios . So are rain forests | |
| 02:06 | , grasslands and wetlands . All of these by OEMs | |
| 02:09 | and many more . Make up the biosphere . Okay | |
| 02:12 | . Now that we know what's in these two spheres | |
| 02:14 | , let's put them together and try to figure out | |
| 02:16 | what belongs to which sphere . Mm . Imagine a | |
| 02:23 | lovely forest meadow , a bird perched on a rock | |
| 02:27 | chirping away , a deer standing in the tall grass | |
| 02:30 | , a mountain standing tall in the background in a | |
| 02:32 | stream flowing through the clearing . I can almost smell | |
| 02:36 | it . Almost everything in this scene is part of | |
| 02:38 | either the geo sphere or the biosphere . Let's see | |
| 02:42 | if we can figure out which parts go into which | |
| 02:44 | sphere . Let's start with the geo sphere . We | |
| 02:47 | know that there's nothing alive in the geo sphere So | |
| 02:49 | we can rule out all the plants and animals . | |
| 02:52 | Water is also part of a different sphere . But | |
| 02:54 | we'll talk about that later when we take away the | |
| 02:56 | living things were left with all the solid earth parts | |
| 02:59 | of the scene . The rock , the bird was | |
| 03:01 | standing on the soil , the grass was growing out | |
| 03:03 | of the mountain in the distance and the bed , | |
| 03:06 | the stream water flowed through . So what we're left | |
| 03:08 | with is the geo sphere , Rocks , soils and | |
| 03:12 | landforms . Got it . Now let's think about the | |
| 03:14 | biosphere . Unlike the geo sphere , everything in the | |
| 03:18 | biosphere is alive . So the rocks , the mountain | |
| 03:21 | in the stream , they don't count . Now we're | |
| 03:23 | just left with the living things , the grass , | |
| 03:26 | the birds , the deer , voila , you found | |
| 03:29 | the biosphere . So now , you know , two | |
| 03:35 | of Earth's four spheres , the biosphere and the geo | |
| 03:38 | sphere . While they're different puzzle pieces of Earth , | |
| 03:41 | they work together to help make our planet what it | |
| 03:44 | is . Okay , now I gotta go find where | |
| 03:47 | my brother put my hairbrush . |
