00:0-1 Hey parents , do you have a girl who is
00:02 struggling with math a little bit , but deep down
00:06 you just know the girl is smart and if she
00:09 just apply herself a little more , she'll be able
00:12 to handle the smart thing . Well , here's the
00:15 thing girls , we all know develop a little bit
00:18 earlier than boys relational . E what you might not
00:22 know is this earlier development in relation awareness actually is
00:29 the very thing might trip them up . Let me
00:32 explain three areas that are observed at work and uh
00:38 , why that's the case . So you can learn
00:41 how to work with your smart growth . Hi ,
00:45 I'm dr phoenix pan a performance coach at Georgia math
00:48 . My job is to teach kids get over their
00:51 math fair so they can do everything they want to
00:56 do if you like this channel and find this valuable
01:00 , give us a thumbs up and subscribe to the
01:02 channel . All right , what are the three areas
01:06 ? Area number one is memorization . As I said
01:10 earlier , girls develop a little bit earlier than boys
01:14 , relational . E Now this means that they are
01:18 more aware of their surroundings and they're more conscience engines
01:22 . When it comes to their homework , they are
01:24 readily to follow more instructions . So when it comes
01:28 to math , for example , third grade multiplication table
01:32 girls typically have that memorized a lot quicker than boys
01:38 because they're willing to put in the work . However
01:41 , if this is the only technique , your daughter
01:44 or your girl is grabbing and getting used to the
01:49 technique of memorization that will set them learning math backward
01:55 quite a bit . Let me explain why that's the
01:58 case . If you have a girl between third grade
02:02 and fifth grade , you really want to pay attention
02:04 . Because fifth grade is when word problem is introduced
02:09 . As you remember . Probably that word problem is
02:13 all about figuring math out . What is the key
02:16 concept behind that word problem . Memorization , in fact
02:21 is a dead end when it comes to solving what
02:24 problems . Memorization itself is not bad when it comes
02:29 to learning say subject like history , but when it
02:33 comes to math , that's detrimental because that again is
02:37 about figuring things out . The second area I noticed
02:42 where our girls get set behind is social aspect .
02:49 Again our girls develop a little earlier , they're relational
02:54 awareness , make them more aware of um for example
02:58 , fear of making mistakes , they look back ,
03:02 um make them more fearful of not fitting in and
03:07 sometimes they worry about more about looking come across like
03:11 looking at like a nerd boys for my observation at
03:16 this age group often jump in headlong with competition ,
03:20 sometimes a little too headlong . But our girls on
03:23 the other hand starting to doubting about themselves , starting
03:28 to dumb down their own game just to fit in
03:31 that aspect . Set them back . The third area
03:36 I observed at work is that trip our girls learning
03:39 Math is gender stereotype in schools . Sometimes even from
03:45 their own math teachers , boys are perceived as better
03:50 at math naturally , where girls often inadvertently made it
03:55 feel they don't belong in the class . Now ,
03:57 if you have a teacher , um currently , if
04:01 that's the situation where you don't want to do is
04:03 with the energy changing that teacher , what you actually
04:06 want to do is spend all the energy supporting and
04:10 encouraging young girls at home , spend more time with
04:13 them and maybe even find extra help for your girl
04:16 outside the school . And in some extreme cases ,
04:21 if you really need to maybe talk to the principal
04:24 and switch your girl outside that teacher who is not
04:28 supportive because end of the day , you don't want
04:32 your girl doubting her ability to do math , You
04:35 want to protect that learning environment for her . So
04:40 here's a key three key points on how to work
04:43 with the smart girls . Key number one , you
04:46 really want to encourage and teach you girl to learn
04:51 the key concepts of maths early on , not just
04:54 rely on memorization uh math facts , you know ,
05:00 uh stay away from memorization as early as you can
05:04 teach your girl to learn the key concepts number to
05:07 spend more time to encourage you girl and guide their
05:11 natural brilliance from within . So they don't dumb down
05:14 their game to fit in . And the key number
05:17 three is keep communication open . Do lots of role
05:21 plays very early on , teach you girls not only
05:25 to recognize but how to handle an unsupported math teacher
05:29 . So if you do all those three things ,
05:33 you have a happier , more confident math girl and
05:37 who knows she's smart , who knows she's supported and
05:42 who knows that world is wide open to do whatever
05:45 she wants to do . All right . Um ,
05:48 we would love to hear from your comments . What's
05:52 the experience like for you ? What has you and
05:55 your daughter battled through ? What's , um , what's
05:59 some of the wisdom you can share with our community
06:01 ? Leave comments below would love to hear from you
06:04 so stronger math , happier kids until next time ,
06:08 happy parenting .
