00:0-1 in this video , we are going to see a
00:01 lot of water , a lot of water . Hmm
00:09 , I wonder why . Oh yeah , because we
00:13 are learning about a special place called Niagara Falls .
00:17 It is not only a beautiful and fascinating place to
00:21 visit and see , it is also a wonderful source
00:24 of power and generates electricity for both the United States
00:29 and Canada . So what exactly is Niagara Falls ?
00:35 Well , it is a group of three waterfalls on
00:38 the border of the United States and Canada here ,
00:42 we'll show you on the map . Niagara Falls is
00:44 right here on the map , on the border of
00:47 Canada and the United States . One of the falls
00:51 is mostly in Canada . The other two are in
00:54 the United States . The biggest waterfall of the three
01:00 is called Horseshoe Falls or Canadian Falls , depending on
01:03 who you ask , it is called horseshoe Falls because
01:06 of its shape . It looks like a horseshoe .
01:09 Many people also call it Canadian Falls because most of
01:13 it is in Canada . Now , horseshoe falls is
01:16 huge . Okay , it is 2590 ft wide with
01:22 a drop of 187 ft . Horseshoe falls isn't just
01:26 big , it is powerful . In fact , horseshoe
01:29 falls is the most powerful waterfall in all of north
01:34 America , you can see the power of horseshoe falls
01:40 by seeing just how much missed is generated by the
01:44 falls . So much missed . The other two waterfalls
01:51 are american falls and bridal veil falls . Both of
01:55 them are on the United States side , they are
01:58 much smaller than horseshoe falls . American Falls is the
02:02 largest of the two and is called american Falls because
02:05 it is on the american side of the border ,
02:08 bridal veil falls is the smallest of all and is
02:11 called bridal veil falls because it looks like the veil
02:15 that a bride wears at a wedding . Now ,
02:20 here is a super easy fact to remember the waterfalls
02:24 are on the Niagara River . Okay , Niagara Falls
02:29 , Niagara River . Alright , real easy , really
02:32 simple . Okay , share that fact with your friends
02:36 . Okay , now catch this . If you ever
02:38 visit , you can ride on a boat on the
02:41 Niagara River and see the falls up close , everyone
02:45 has to wear a poncho because you'll get wet .
02:48 The amount of mist that comes from the falls is
02:51 amazing . Speaking of visiting , did you know over
02:57 30 million people visit Niagara falls every year . It
03:02 is one of the most inspiring natural wonders in the
03:06 world Now through the years , not everyone has come
03:11 just to visit . Okay , for example , 11
03:15 people have walked a tightrope across Niagara falls . Tightrope
03:20 walking is when someone walks across a very thin rope
03:23 , it requires amazing balance and focus . A man
03:27 named Charles blondin is pictured here walking a tightrope across
03:32 Niagara Falls while carrying his manager on his back .
03:37 Can you imagine being that guy , thankfully Charles Blondin
03:41 and his manager made it across safely , Charles blondin
03:45 walked across Niagara Falls on a tightrope many times .
03:51 Yeah . One lady named Annie Edson Taylor also did
03:56 something dangerous with the falls in 1901 . You can
03:59 see her pictured here , she got in a barrel
04:02 and rode down the falls . That's right . She
04:06 was the first person to do that and she survived
04:09 . Although she did get hurt . If you visit
04:15 the falls , just look at the falls . Okay
04:18 , They are beautiful . Just look at them and
04:21 if you think they look beautiful during the day ,
04:24 they are lit at night . Those are led lights
04:27 and they look almost magical . Wow , Niagara Falls
04:31 . Okay . Yeah . This guy isn't allowed to
04:34 visit Niagara Falls . It's for your safety . Okay
04:38 ? You just shouldn't go . You'd be tempted unless
04:41 if you promise just to look at them like everyone
04:44 else . All right , okay . We have one
04:47 more fact about Niagara Falls to share with you something
04:51 we referenced at the beginning of the video , Niagara
04:54 Falls generates a lot of electricity . The type of
05:01 power generated by Niagara Falls is called Hydro electricity .
05:06 That's a fancy name . Hydro electricity . The fast
05:10 movement of the water allows the generators at the plants
05:14 to make electricity . Hydro electricity is electricity that is
05:19 powered by water . Niagara Falls a beautiful place ,
05:25 an incredible natural wonder and also a source of energy
05:28 and electricity to the surrounding areas . Special thanks to
