00:03	to do things . This one is on body mass
00:05	, uh the order in which you do equations .
00:07	So we're gonna start out with a good example three
00:10	plus two times seven . And I want you to
00:12	quickly work that out . I'll give you a few
00:13	seconds . Okay ? Now which answer did you get
00:22	? Did you get the answer of 35 or perhaps
00:25	17 ? Well , I'm here to tell you right
00:28	now that if you've got the answer of 35 ,
00:30	you are in fact incorrect . The correct answer with
00:32	17 . So we're gonna be looking at why this
00:35	is the case . First off , we'll have a
00:37	look at the different ways that you might have got
00:39	your answer . We'll look at the wrong way of
00:40	doing it . First you got the answer 35 .
00:43	So the way I'm guessing you probably did this if
00:45	you've got the answer of 35 is like this first
00:49	you went three plus two and you've got five And
00:52	that left you with five times 7 And then five
00:56	times 7 Gave you the answer of 35 . Yeah
01:00	. Well incorrect . If you've done it that way
01:03	, I'm sorry to break it to you , The
01:05	good news , is that right now ? I'm going
01:07	to show you the right way of doing it .
01:08	So we'll have a look now if you got the
01:10	answer is 17 , this is probably the way you
01:13	would have done it and this would have been the
01:14	right way of doing it . First off , you
01:17	have gone two times seven , two times 7 gives
01:21	you 14 , this leaves you with three plus 14
01:24	, 3 plus 14 gives you 17 and 17 ,
01:27	like I said , is the right answer . Now
01:31	the reason one of these is right and one of
01:32	these is wrong is because in maths there's a particular
01:35	way that you have to do equations of particular order
01:38	and as you can see and as you have seen
01:41	affects your answer . Okay , This can be easily
01:45	remembered . You probably remember from high school is the
01:47	idea of biomass or possibly bombed us . What this
01:50	means is this is the order in which you do
01:53	an equation . First off , you do anything with
01:55	brackets . The next thing you do is anything which
01:59	is orders . This means things like squared , cubed
02:02	or even the square root . The next thing you
02:06	do or any division multiplication and you just these left
02:09	to right . Like you're reading ascends next thing you
02:12	do is any addition or subtraction again , left or
02:15	right . So we use this to answer a few
02:18	questions and to get the right answers . So first
02:21	off we'll have a quick look applying this with the
02:24	question we just did three plus two times seven is
02:27	two operations here , there is addition and multiplication .
02:30	Now we use the word body mass . There's nothing
02:32	in brackets . There's no orders . The division multiplication
02:35	has one there . That's the two times seven .
02:37	So this is one we do first , two times
02:39	7 is four day . Last of all , we
02:43	do the addition . So three plus 14 Gives us
02:47	the answer of 7 , 8 . Okay , nice
02:50	and easy using body mass . We'll have a look
02:54	at another question . This one here , five plus
02:57	four squared times three . Now we go through body
03:00	mass . There's nothing in brackets but there is some
03:02	orders . That's the four squared . four squared means
03:05	four times 4 44 16 . So We get the
03:11	question 5-plus 16 times three . So what part of
03:18	the question do we do now ? Now looking at
03:20	body mass ? What we do is the multiplication 16
03:24	times 3 , 16 times three gives us 48 .
03:28	So this leaves us with the question five plus 48
03:32	. To which the answer now can easily be worked
03:34	out is 53 . We'll have a look at one
03:39	more example . Okay , this one is gonna be
03:41	a little bit harder . So right now going to
03:44	get you to work out three open bracket six plus
03:48	two over the square root of 16 , just give
03:51	you a little hint If your number live this three
03:54	, six Plus 2 parts . What it actually means
03:56	is three times six plus two brackets . So we
04:00	have a quick look about body mass . First .
04:03	You want to see there is there something in brackets
04:05	? So this is the part we do first six
04:07	plus two because this leaves us with the question Three
04:11	times a day over the square root of 16 .
04:15	Going along next with body mass , there's something in
04:17	order . So we do that part next . That's
04:19	the square of 16 . So the square root of
04:21	16 , It's four . This leaves us with the
04:24	question three times over four . What do we do
04:29	now ? Well girl across , We do the times
04:33	part . So three times a 24/4 And then 24/4
04:40	gives us the answer of six . So if you
04:44	can remember all these things with body mass , they
04:46	should do something with brackets . The next part you're
04:48	going to do is anything with orders ? The next
04:51	part you're gonna do is any divide multiply ? The
04:54	next part you do is any addition subtraction . You'll
04:56	be fine working these out . Okay , good luck
