00:0-1 | Good day . Welcome to the Tech Math channel .
00:01 | What we're going to be doing in this video .
00:03 | I'm going to show you how to add fractions with
00:05 | different denominators instantly without all that messing around that you've
00:09 | probably been taught in school where you have to find
00:11 | common denominators and all that sort of junk . We're
00:13 | going to skip all that step , right ? And
00:15 | I'm gonna get you straight into it . So let's
00:17 | just get into an example . Let's get one quarter
00:20 | and to this , we're going to add one third
00:24 | . Nice . Easy one to start off with .
00:26 | They will get harder . So how do we go
00:28 | about getting our answer here ? Well , first off
00:31 | , let's get the bottom number . The denominator .
00:33 | We're going to get our two denominators from what we
00:35 | got here , the fourth and the three . And
00:38 | we are going to multiply this four times 3 .
00:42 | We've got our denominator , which is 12 . The
00:45 | next step is we're going to start at the top
00:47 | left here with our one and we're gonna multiplied by
00:50 | this number here on the bottom right ? So let's
00:53 | multiply those one time three is equal to three .
00:59 | The next step is we're going to start at the
01:02 | bottom left here and we're going to multiply it by
01:04 | this number at the top right here . Okay ,
01:07 | So one times four is equal to four and because
01:11 | we're adding , let's put the addition symbol there .
01:14 | So what have we got ? We have the following
01:17 | 3-plus 4 is equal to seven . The bottom number
01:21 | , the denominator is 12 and there's our answer as
01:24 | you can see there's not tons of working out working
01:26 | out the common denominators were pretty much has done this
01:29 | directly . So what about another example ? Okay ,
01:33 | what about we do this one ? What about we
01:35 | do 2/3 and to this we're going to add three
01:40 | fits . Okay , a bit harder now . Bit
01:42 | bigger . And I can tell you that our answer
01:45 | is going to be over one . So we are
01:46 | going to have to simplify it at the end and
01:48 | occasionally you will have to do that . So first
01:51 | off , let's get our answers here . three times
01:54 | 5 is equal to 15 For the next part of
01:58 | our answer . We're going to multiply this by this
02:01 | , two times five is equal to 10 , the
02:04 | next one , three times 3 is equal to nine
02:09 | . And we're going to add our answers . We're
02:11 | adding fractions here , so 10 plus nine is equal
02:15 | to 19/15 . Now we can simplify this further .
02:19 | We've got an improper fraction answer here , but let's
02:22 | simplify it , 19 divided by 15 is equal to
02:25 | one and there is four left over . The four
02:29 | goes there and our bottom denominator here goes here .
02:33 | Okay , so one and 4/15 . All right ,
02:37 | one more example then I'm going to give a bunch
02:39 | of them to you to do Okay For our third
02:41 | example , let's get three quarters . And to this
02:44 | let's add 3/7 . I'm going to give you a
02:48 | bunch of these are doing a second , we'll just
02:49 | get through this example . We have this line here
02:52 | and let's work out our denominator . four times 7
02:57 | is 28 . Let's work out top left times the
03:02 | bottom , right . Three times seven is equal to
03:05 | 21 . 3 times four is equal to 12 and
03:11 | we are adding here . So 21 plus 12 is
03:15 | 33 . 33/28 . What does this equal ? Well
03:20 | we can simplify this a bit further now . 33
03:23 | divided by 28 is one and there is five left
03:26 | over Uh five it's going to go over 28 anyway
03:31 | . What about a few examples for you to do
03:34 | ? Okay , what about we go one quarter and
03:37 | to this we're going to add uh 3/5 . You
03:42 | can do that one . And we're also going to
03:44 | do to over nine . And to this we're going
03:50 | to add 1/4 a quarter . Let's see what it
03:55 | adds is are so first off , let's work this
03:59 | out . Okay , four times 5 is equal to
04:04 | 20 . All right , next we have one times
04:08 | five and this is equal to five . We have
04:12 | this one here , three times four . This is
04:14 | equal to 12 and we are going to be adding
04:17 | here . This is equal to 17 Over 20 heads
04:22 | . You go with that . Let's have a look
04:24 | at the second one here . Okay , nine times
04:27 | four is equal to 36 . The next one we're
04:31 | going to be doing is two times four is equal
04:34 | to eight To this . We're going to be adding
04:37 | one times nine which is nine and all right .
04:41 | We got a plus in there . Eight plus nine
04:44 | is equal to 17 17/36 . And we can't simplify
04:49 | these guys anymore . So we're going to leave our
04:51 | answers there how they are anyway . What did you
04:54 | think of that ? That is how you go through
04:56 | and you add fractions with different denominators instantly and you
05:00 | can probably guess what we're going to do when we're
05:01 | subtracting fractions with different denominators instantly . But I'm going
05:05 | to save that for another video anyway . Thank you
05:07 | for watching . We'll see you next time . Bye
