03:49 | the video and then I am going to get started
03:52 | . So as I said , today's lesson is about
03:55 | , I'll show you the lesson title again for today
03:57 | . Today's lesson is about how to give updates with
04:01 | yet already and still how to give updates with yet
04:05 | already and still and the focus grammar will be present
04:08 | . Perfect tense . Okey dokey . I want to
04:13 | share the video and then I'm going to start uh
04:16 | , where are you facebook ? Where did you go
04:19 | ? Okay , so let's take a look at our
04:21 | lesson boards for today . Then our lesson boards for
04:25 | today Look like this . So we're going to talk
04:29 | about each .1 x one , how to use yet
04:32 | , how to use already and how to use still
04:36 | . So let's get started with the first point for
04:39 | today's lesson . The first point for today's lesson is
04:43 | how to use yet , how to use yet .
04:46 | So let's take a look . Also . If you
04:49 | forgot , please make sure to like and share this
04:52 | video so that other people can find it . That
04:54 | would be super super cool . Alrighty . Then let's
04:58 | take a look . Let's take a look . How
05:00 | do we use yet If you joined . Let's see
05:04 | if you joined last week's live lesson . I talked
05:07 | a little bit about yet and the focus grammar was
05:10 | present . Perfect . So we're going to talk about
05:13 | this grammar at this .1 more time . So let's
05:17 | begin how to use yet . What is the deal
05:20 | ? So in blue here we use yet to emphasize
05:25 | to make the feeling stronger , to emphasize an incomplete
05:30 | action or condition that you expect will be completed .
05:37 | So , and a very important point with yet is
05:42 | that expectation we expect something is going to happen or
05:48 | we expect something is going to be completed . So
05:52 | uh , this is a key I talked about last
05:56 | week . So you can use a sentence with yet
05:59 | or without yet . But when you want to communicate
06:02 | expectation , you should use yet to do that .
06:06 | Okay , so how do we make a sentence with
06:09 | yet ? We use subject in today's grammar hasn't or
06:15 | haven't , so he hasn't or I haven't depending on
06:20 | your subject , then we use the past participle form
06:24 | of the verb and end with yet . So let's
06:28 | look at some examples and please send me your example
06:31 | sentences in the chat . I will try to check
06:33 | live . Okay . The first one I haven't eaten
06:38 | lunch yet . I haven't eaten lunch yet . So
06:43 | subject is I haven't have not . So this is
06:46 | the reduced form have not become haven't Eaton is the
06:51 | past participle verb form of heat lunch . Haven't eaten
06:56 | lunch . My phrase here and yet is at the
07:00 | end . I haven't eaten lunch yet . This sentence
07:03 | is also correct . I haven't eaten lunch . This
07:06 | is just a simple fact . I haven't eaten lunch
07:09 | yet , communicates expectation . So when you want to
07:13 | show that expectation , you can include yet at the
07:16 | end of your sentence , another one . He hasn't
07:20 | returned my call yet . He hasn't returned my call
07:23 | yet . Yes , he hasn't . So in this
07:27 | sentence I use hasn't because my subject is he .
07:32 | He hasn't or he has not returned returned is the
07:38 | past participle form of return . He hasn't returned my
07:42 | call yet . He hasn't returned my call yet .
07:46 | Again . This sentence is also correct . He hasn't
07:49 | returned my call . Simple fact , he hasn't returned
07:53 | my call yet , shows I expect a call from
07:56 | him . I expect that . Great . Okay .
08:00 | All right . There are some examples coming from you
08:03 | now . Andrew says I haven't been there yet .
08:07 | Good . Nice . Okay . Uh , some other
08:09 | examples . I haven't oh , some cardiology . Right
08:14 | . I've not I've not picked up my sister or
08:16 | I've not discussed . I've not you can use it
08:21 | , but in american english . That sounds a little
08:23 | weird . Maybe in british english . It sounds a
08:26 | little bit more normal . Sorry ? Audio is low
08:29 | . Maybe british english sounds a little bit more normal
08:32 | , but we tend to use uh I have not
08:35 | . So rather than I've not . Mm I have
08:39 | not . I have not . I haven't uh ,
08:44 | facebook I don't see . Okay . There's one rubber
08:46 | says I haven't eaten dinner yet . Okay . Um
08:50 | lulu says I haven't spoken to her yet . Good
08:53 | , good , good examples , nice examples . Okay
08:55 | . Another one we haven't spoken to our clients yet
09:01 | . We haven't spoken to our clients yet . Okay
09:05 | . And you haven't convinced me yet . You haven't
09:10 | convinced me yet convinced this word means like to try
09:14 | to persuade someone to uh get someone to think the
09:19 | same way you do or to get someone to agree
09:23 | with you or agree to an idea . You haven't
09:27 | convinced me yet . You haven't convinced me yet .
09:31 | Okay . So I have a note here . This
09:34 | note in blue as I said before . It sounds
09:38 | a little old fashioned uh to use yet before the
09:44 | verb , but you might sometimes hear this . So
09:49 | that means sometimes maybe in movies , I suppose you
09:54 | might hear this yet right here in this position .
09:59 | So for example , I haven't yet eaten lunch or
10:05 | he hasn't yet returned my call . You might hear
10:10 | yet used in that position , but it sounds a
10:13 | little bit old fashioned . So at least in american
10:16 | english , we don't use it in this position so
10:19 | much you can . But again , it sounds a
10:22 | little more natural to use it at the end of
10:26 | the sentence . Okay . Hey , Ronnie writes ,
10:29 | we haven't planned to ends and plan yet . Not
10:32 | planed planned , planned our trip yet . Wanzhou says
10:36 | I haven't gotten a haircut yet . Haven't got a
10:39 | haircut . Okay . Uh , other examples Diallo on
10:43 | facebook I haven't taken , so the past participle form
10:47 | of take is taken yet . I haven't taken a
10:50 | shower yet . Uh , yellow . Alright . Cool
10:54 | High teacher . I'm washing from Laos . Cool ,
10:56 | welcome . Hey Laos . Okay . Last point for
11:00 | this part , which to use yet or still I'm
11:03 | going to talk about still at the end of today's
11:06 | lesson . What's the deal yet ? Or still because
11:09 | they have similar ideas yet . It sounds like just
11:14 | a neutral report of expectation . I haven't eaten lunch
11:19 | yet but I expect to still however communicates a negative
11:26 | feeling . It usually has a negative feeling . This
11:29 | thing is not done and that's bad . So that's
11:33 | the difference between yet and still for today's list .
11:37 | So I'm going to talk about this again later so
11:40 | please don't worry . All right . That's it for
11:44 | part one . Let's go to part two . We'll
11:47 | take a quick break . Great . Um , if
11:50 | you missed it there are three things as always for
11:53 | you from the link below the video . If you're
11:55 | watching on YouTube or above the video , if you're
11:58 | watching on Facebook , I show you these every week
12:03 | . Yeah , but if you missed it earlier I'll
12:06 | show you again . I showed this page a bit
12:11 | earlier . Um how do I do this ? Okay
12:14 | , so I showed you this page a bit earlier
12:16 | . Yeah , this is the link . You click
12:18 | at the bottom , scroll down on this page and
12:22 | you can find these pdf and actually a bunch of
12:25 | these are new . So check this out . If
12:27 | you haven't seen it before , you can scroll down
12:30 | on this page . And here at the bottom is
12:34 | this four step process . You can find a guide
12:38 | to download everything . So if you had trouble before
12:42 | , I hope this can help you uh to figure
12:44 | out to understand how to download these and get .
12:49 | Alright . So check those out . Check the link
12:52 | above or below the video . All right , let's
12:55 | go to part two then how to use already .
12:58 | And also if you haven't , please make sure to
13:00 | like and share this video so others can find today's
13:05 | lesson already . Let's go . Let's go how to
13:10 | use already . How to use already . So today's
13:14 | lesson is going to focus on using already with present
13:19 | perfect tense and I'll talk about some other tenses later
13:23 | . But let's look at present perfect tense first .
13:26 | Okay . Okay so present , perfect . We use
13:30 | already to emphasize or make stronger a complete action or
13:37 | condition a complete action or condition that is expected .
13:43 | So again there's expectation about this action . Okay so
13:49 | let's look at some present perfect example sentences . I
13:53 | have two patterns here because already is sometimes used in
13:58 | this position and sometimes used in this position . It's
14:02 | up to you . You can choose . So subject
14:05 | has already verb or subject have already verb . Again
14:12 | you need to change has or have according to your
14:17 | subject . Also subject has or have verb already .
14:23 | You can use it in this position after the verb
14:26 | verb phrase or before . So let's practice this .
14:32 | Okay , someone already sent an example ruby . I
14:35 | have already done my work . Very nice . Okay
14:38 | . Uh so here I've already eaten lunch . I've
14:45 | already eaten lunch . I've so this is I have
14:50 | the reduced form of I have I have already eaten
14:54 | lunch again . This sentence is also correct . I've
14:58 | eaten lunch . This sentence is also correct . What's
15:01 | the difference ? Already communicates expectation . You expect I'm
15:08 | going to eat lunch or I expect I'm going to
15:10 | eat lunch . I want to communicate that . So
15:13 | your coworker or your classmate says , hey , do
15:18 | you want to eat lunch ? You can say ,
15:20 | oh now I've already eaten lunch . I've already eaten
15:24 | lunch . We communicate expectation with this word . Okay
15:30 | , next , he's already cancelled the meeting . He's
15:34 | already cancelled the meeting . So there is some expectation
15:40 | about the meeting being canceled and it happened , it's
15:46 | finished , it's complete . So this shows expectation Again
15:50 | , this sentence , he's canceled the meeting . He
15:53 | has canceled the meeting . That's also correct . We
15:57 | communicate that expectation okay . Everybody is writing about the
16:02 | meals they've already eaten . I've already eaten lunch .
16:05 | I've already eaten breakfast . I've already eaten dinner .
16:07 | It's an easy one , Right ? It's an easy
16:10 | one . Okay . Think about something like a work
16:13 | or study example sentence . Yeah , that's a good
16:16 | one . Let's practice with that one . Okay ,
16:19 | here's another good one . I think we've seen that
16:23 | movie already . I think we've seen that movie already
16:28 | . You can use this to reply to an invitation
16:32 | like , hey , do you want to see this
16:34 | movie ? Do you want to watch this movie ?
16:36 | You can say , I think we've or I think
16:39 | I've seeing that movie already . So again , it
16:44 | shows you understand the other person's expectations . Okay ,
16:51 | great . Uh huh . Motto says he has already
16:54 | visited paris Good . Marco says I've already gone to
16:57 | bed . Good . Are you writing from your bed
16:59 | ? So good . Okay . Orlando says I have
17:02 | already finished my homework . Good , good , good
17:06 | , good . Uh , a nice example . Bill
17:09 | a wall says she is already married . Yeah ,
17:12 | you can use this in different sentence structures for sure
17:16 | . Good , good , good . Okay , let's
17:20 | continue to the last point here I mentioned , we
17:24 | can use this already in different grammar structure so not
17:28 | just present . Perfect though that's today's focus grammar .
17:33 | We can also use it for example with simple past
17:38 | , simple past subject already past tense verb like she
17:45 | already left or I already quit . So again we're
17:49 | communicating expectation . She already left . The action is
17:53 | finished . I already quit and the action is finished
17:57 | . So these again this this is a simple past
18:01 | and present . Perfect question . Both are correct and
18:04 | lots of situations . Uh just the use of present
18:08 | perfect shows an action affects the present more strongly than
18:14 | this one . I'm not going to get into detail
18:17 | about this grammar point in today's lesson though . Okay
18:21 | , so you can use already here before the verb
18:23 | or after the verb in simple past tense as well
18:27 | . She already left . I already quit . Then
18:30 | somebody earlier sent a message about using this with adjectives
18:36 | to uh you can also use this in present tense
18:40 | to express a condition that happened faster than expected .
18:47 | So something again , expectation . But something was very
18:51 | happened very quickly . For example you are already hungry
18:57 | . We ate 30 minutes ago . So the speaker
19:01 | is surprised the listener is hungry like 8:30 minutes ago
19:05 | . Why are you hungry ? You're already hungry again
19:09 | . So you can use this in different grammar patterns
19:13 | today . I wanted to focus on these . Okay
19:17 | Uh some others are coming in . I already finished
19:20 | my project . Good job . I have already made
19:24 | it . Okay . Made what ? Um Someone G
19:27 | G . O . Says I have already seen your
19:28 | videos on Youtube . Thanks for checking those out .
19:32 | Um All right . I see lots of . Okay
19:38 | , let's let's move on because time is good quickly
19:40 | . So this is how we used already in a
19:43 | few different grammar points . Uh but I wanted to
19:47 | focus on the present . Perfect . Today . Okay
19:50 | , we'll take one more short , super short break
19:53 | and then we'll go to still the last point for
19:56 | today's lesson so quickly . If you missed it .
19:58 | Before there's free stuff for you from the link ,
20:01 | Below the video , get these free PDFs vocabulary and
20:06 | conversational phrases . You can find this from the link
20:09 | , below the video . If you're watching on Youtube
20:12 | or above the video . If you are watching on
20:14 | facebook , you need your name and your email address
20:18 | to get those . So check it out . Okay
20:21 | , let's go to the last part of today's lesson
20:24 | . The last part is about still how to use
20:27 | still . And also if you haven't , please make
20:30 | sure to like this video and share it so others
20:32 | can find lesson . Oh kids dokey . Hello to
20:36 | everyone joining . Hello . Some people write Hello sir
20:41 | . Did you know sir , is used for a
20:42 | man ? Yeah sir is used for a man .
20:45 | You can say hello miss for example , it will
20:48 | be good some of you right hello ma'am . Okay
20:51 | let's go to still still how to use still use
20:56 | still to emphasize to make stronger . You still to
21:00 | emphasize an incomplete action to emphasize an action that has
21:06 | not finished , not done . But we expect the
21:11 | action will be completed so we expect to complete the
21:16 | action or it's an unchanged condition that you expect will
21:24 | change and unchanged condition or an incomplete action again ,
21:29 | we expect it's going to change generally still sounds negative
21:37 | . So the difference between yet and still for today's
21:41 | lesson is that this one still usually sounds negative ,
21:46 | something is not finished and that's bad . How do
21:51 | we make a sentence with still subject still haven't or
21:57 | hasn't past participle verb again , this is a present
22:02 | perfect sentence structure . Still I still haven't something he
22:07 | still hasn't something so notice still comes before this part
22:13 | . Yeah , we saw different placements for already and
22:17 | yet . So let's look at some examples . I
22:21 | still haven't finished my homework . I still haven't finished
22:26 | my homework . So still right here shows my homework
22:30 | is incomplete is not done and that's bad . I
22:36 | still haven't finished my homework . So This sentence is
22:40 | correct . I haven't finished my homework . Also 100%
22:43 | correct but still shows a negative feeling and the incomplete
22:50 | action that we expect . The sentence . I haven't
22:53 | finished my homework yet is also 100% correct but there's
22:57 | no negative feeling there . It's just a report .
23:01 | Just expect to finish my homework but it's not done
23:05 | . Mm This sounds a little sad . I still
23:08 | haven't finished my homework . More examples here's when you
23:13 | can use as a confirmation question to check someone else
23:18 | . For example , you send your friend a text
23:20 | message on saturday and you say you still haven't gotten
23:25 | up . So to get up means to get out
23:27 | of bed . Yeah . You still haven't gotten up
23:31 | . It's three p.m. You still haven't gotten up .
23:34 | It's three p.m. So this shows the speaker is surprised
23:38 | and feels like negative about this action . This action
23:43 | to get up right here . They expect to be
23:46 | complete but it's not complete . So you can use
23:49 | this to express surprise . You still haven't ever oh
23:54 | my gosh so you can use that pattern to express
23:57 | surprise . You still haven't finished your homework or you
24:01 | still haven't finished that project . What are you doing
24:04 | ? So you can use this pattern to express that
24:07 | feeling Okay . All right next one . Okay .
24:12 | Some examples are coming in everybody today everybody is using
24:16 | meals . I still haven't eaten breakfast . I still
24:19 | haven't eaten lunch . Okay . All right here's one
24:23 | he still hasn't replied to my message . He still
24:28 | hasn't replied to my message . Can use this at
24:31 | work at school in your personal life . Whatever .
24:34 | He still hasn't replied to my message or she still
24:37 | hasn't replied to my message . So this shows you
24:40 | expect a response . You expect a reply but you
24:44 | have not received the reply and that's bad . It's
24:48 | kind of a negative thing . He still hasn't replied
24:50 | to my message . I hope he's okay . I
24:53 | hope it's ok . Okay . All right . Uh
24:57 | last one . She still hasn't found a new job
25:02 | . She still hasn't found a new job . So
25:05 | again uh this communicates that we're not happy about this
25:10 | . We expect she'll find a new job but it
25:14 | hasn't happened yet . Okay . Um Good some examples
25:20 | . Suki says I still haven't watched that movie ,
25:24 | I still haven't watched that movie . You need a
25:27 | word there . Um That movie . The movie .
25:30 | Okay . Carlos . You still haven't taken a shower
25:34 | . Good example . Good example . Okay . Uh
25:38 | chosen john says I still haven't gone downtown . You
25:42 | don't need to the I still haven't gone downtown .
25:45 | No . To the downtown . Uh We used to
25:48 | uh with a specific place still haven't gone down .
25:53 | Okay . Uh Last one a couple one point I
25:56 | said usually uh still communicates a negative feeling but you
26:01 | might hear it in a sentence like this with time
26:06 | . So this is a different type of sentence than
26:09 | these examples but I want to make sure we talk
26:12 | about it . It's still five p.m. Let's go out
26:16 | for dinner . What does this mean ? This still
26:19 | you might hear still in this position or only in
26:23 | this position ? You check your watch . Oh it's
26:25 | still five PM . Or it's just five PM .
26:28 | Or sometimes it's still justified PM . Or it's still
26:32 | only regardless . The idea is the same . That
26:36 | means the speaker is surprised because it seems early .
26:41 | Maybe it's really dark outside and you think it's late
26:45 | like eight o'clock . Nine o'clock . I don't know
26:48 | . So but you check your watch . Oh it's
26:50 | still five p.m. This communicates uh surprise about the time
26:56 | . So you might hear this pattern sometimes used in
27:00 | this case . It's for a surprise . It's not
27:02 | a negative . Okey . Um All right . Last
27:10 | point then . Note still can also be used in
27:15 | simple past structures . So I covered present perfect today
27:21 | mostly . But we can use this in simple past
27:24 | as well . For example I told my roommate to
27:29 | wash the dishes three times but he still forgot .
27:34 | He still forgot . So this use of still with
27:37 | simple past tense feels like even though or despite .
27:43 | So Even though I told my roommate to wash the
27:46 | dishes three times he forgot . So still shows that
27:51 | negative expectation . Yeah we can use it in sentences
27:55 | like these two . So but again today's focus grammar
27:58 | was really present perfect tense . Okay uh Can I
28:05 | use still in simple future ? Like with will are
28:08 | going to uh Yes you can like for example ,
28:13 | even if I move to a new city uh to
28:16 | start a new life , I will still have to
28:20 | I don't know uh pay rent for example something .
28:24 | Uh You uh that will not change . Yes ,
28:27 | you can use it in those grammar points as well
28:31 | . All right , Alma says I am still not
28:36 | sleeping . Could I say it like that ? Depending
28:39 | on what you want to communicate . Like if you
28:42 | recently if you have had trouble sleeping for example and
28:47 | you talked with a friend or someone about it ,
28:49 | you could say I still am not sleeping or I'm
28:53 | still not sleeping if somebody knows about a continuing situation
28:59 | . Yes . And it communicates that negative condition .
29:02 | Yes . You can't use that . Okay . Uh
29:05 | I'm late . So let's finish there for today .
29:08 | I'll show you today's lesson board so you can take
29:10 | a picture of everything we talked about . So again
29:14 | , I focused on one grammar point today , but
29:17 | we covered a lot of little things in today's lesson
29:20 | yet already and still you can take a picture if
29:24 | you want to review that later . All right .
29:26 | Uh , so that is it for today's lesson next
29:29 | week . I'll be back next week the day Toby
29:32 | february 17th , Wednesday , february 17th or thursday the
29:38 | 18th , depending on your time zone . Next week
29:40 | , I'm going to talk about how to describe a
29:44 | past experience and I'm going to focus on a basic
29:49 | grammar . Very , very basic grammar point adjectives with
29:52 | past tents , adjectives with past tense . So ,
29:56 | uh , like the movie was exciting or uh ,
30:02 | dinner was really fun . So we're going to focus
30:05 | on past experiences and how to talk about those kinds
30:10 | of things . I'll focus on this , but we'll
30:14 | cover some other points to , I'm sure join me
30:16 | live again next week . If you want to make
