00:00 Hello . This video is about how workout fractions and
00:04 percentages of an amount . So here we go .
00:06 First off we're gonna look at how to work out
00:08 fractions of an amount . So All this launch straight
00:12 into an example what is a quarter of eight now
00:15 to work out a quarter or something ? As you
00:17 probably really worked out your divided by four half of
00:20 something you've divided by two bottom number and a fraction
00:22 I always think of as a dividing number . So
00:25 do we get and we divided up into four equal
00:28 parts as you see . The answer is to okay
00:32 so a quarter of eight is too yeah that's all
00:36 pretty well and good but it is going to get
00:39 more complex and you probably realize this already . So
00:41 what we're going to get you to have a look
00:42 at is how to work out just using maths .
00:45 Okay so here we go A quarter of eight ,
00:49 how would do this ? Its first off as you
00:52 probably already remember wherever you see of , you can
00:54 just change that two times . So we're going to
00:57 end up with a quarter times then you want to
01:00 change eight so it's over one . So it's all
01:02 it's also a fraction , so we end up with
01:04 one quarter times 8/1 . Then it's just a matter
01:07 of multiplying them straight out , one times eight is
01:09 A and four times one is four . So we
01:12 have the answer of 8/4 . So eight divided by
01:16 four . The answer is to and that's the answer
01:19 . A quarter of a is too as you saw
01:22 before . That's pretty much easily how you work it
01:25 out there . So I'll just go through one more
01:27 example . An example here is three quarters of a
01:31 okay , yeah , this is as you probably already
01:34 guessed , going to be three times as much as
01:35 our last answer . So I'll give you a little
01:37 hint the answer is going to be six . What
01:39 you do is you put the 8/1 and again ,
01:41 what you end up doing is you Just multiply these
01:44 guys out . So three times eight is 24 ,
01:46 four times 1 is four . So 24 divide about
01:49 four . And our answer is six . As you
01:52 can see here , we divide up little things into
01:55 four . You've got one quarter , two quarters ,
01:58 three quarters and three quarters is six . The next
02:03 thing we'll look at is how to work out percentages
02:05 of amount . Example , here is 30% of 90
02:09 . Okay , so the first thing you do with
02:11 this is a change of 30% into a fraction Which
02:14 is 30 over 100 once again of means times and
02:19 then you're putting 90 into a fraction as well ,
02:21 90/1 , 9 divided by one , still nine a
02:23 year . So then you just multiply this out .
02:25 30 times 90 . 2700 . 100 times one is
02:29 100 . And then you have to just work out
02:32 what 2700 is divided by 100 , which is 27
02:38 . Another example , this is say 25% of 80
02:42 . Okay , so do you remember the first thing
02:44 you have to do here ? Well , that's right
02:47 . You got to change the percentage into a fraction
02:49 . So you just put that over 100 and 25%
02:51 becomes 25 over 100 of becomes time . An 80
02:56 becomes 80/1 . So you end up with 25 over
02:59 100 times 80/1 . Multiplying these out 25 times 80
03:07 , 100 times one is 100 . So you end
03:10 up with a fraction 2000 over 100 , which ,
03:14 When you work it out equals 20 . So that
03:17 completes how to work out fractions or percentages of an
03:21 amount . Good luck with those
