00:0-1 Hello . This video is just a quick refresher on
00:02 how to convert between the units used for measuring distance
00:06 . So we'll get straight into it . We've listed
00:08 them up here millimeters centimeters meters and kilometers . They
00:14 had to convert between these . Well , first off
00:16 , I just write a few of the conversion facts
00:19 . Uh , there are 10 millimeters in one centimeter
00:24 , There are a 100 cm in one m .
00:28 There are a 1000 m in one kilometer . Okay
00:34 , So how do we convert between these ? Well
00:35 , first off , I'll consider m two km .
00:39 Okay . Yeah . All right . There's down in
00:44 one kilometer . There is 1000 m . Sorry to
00:48 get to convert between meters and kilometers to convert between
00:54 this one here , which is 1000 to get the
00:57 number one . What I have to do is I
00:59 have to divide by 1000 to convert between km and
01:03 m . Well to get from one , I multiply
01:09 5000 . 2000 m as kilometers or 2000 divided by
01:15 1000 would give me two kilometers and three kilometers se
01:20 or four or so four kilometers as meters were four
01:23 times 1000 Would give us 4000 . Okay , So
01:28 that's that one . The next one will consider is
01:32 converting between meters and centimeters . Okay , so First
01:40 off there is a 100 cm in one m So
01:44 to convert between these two to get from centimetres tomatoes
01:53 To give 100 to one , what we have done
01:56 is we divide by 100 . Okay , so 100
02:00 centimeters divided by 100 equals one m , say 400
02:05 centimeters 400 divided by 100 would give us four m
02:09 and to convert an answer that is meters into centimeters
02:15 We do the opposite three times by 100 . Okay
02:18 , seven m times 100 would give us 700 cm
02:23 . Okay , next off will consider Converting cm two
02:29 . Okay , so in one centimeter There is 10
02:35 . So to convert between these centimetres two millimeters from
02:42 say one centimeter 10 millimeters were times by 10 .
02:46 And it's okay , so seven centimetres seven times 10
02:51 is the same as saying 70 millimeters . All right
02:54 . And to get between from millimeters to centimeters we
02:59 divide by its head . Okay , Um 90 90
03:04 divided by 10 is the same . There's nine centimeters
03:08 . Okay , so what we have here is a
03:10 nice little table , a little uh chart which allows
03:13 us to convert between all the units of uh which
03:16 we use in measuring distance in order to convert between
03:25 these units . The easiest way which I find to
03:27 do it Is because these numbers like 100,000 that we're
03:32 dealing with basically all it involves is moving the decimal
03:37 place a lot of the time and I'll show you
03:38 what I mean by this . Okay , so say
03:41 what I want to convert , I'll start off with
03:44 one . It's a little bit more difficult . So
03:46 I want to convert seven leaders in two kilometers .
03:54 Yeah , to get from m , two km .
03:59 What I do his old go this way . Okay
04:06 , So I divide by 1000 . Yeah , I
04:10 can get my calculator out and I can go seven
04:12 divided by 1000 . I'd get whatever answer I get
04:15 . But I'll show you what I mean by moving
04:17 in decimal place now because I'm dividing this number is
04:20 going to get smaller . So the decimal place is
04:23 going to move that way as you're probably well aware
04:25 that the decimal place after that seven at the moment
04:27 . How many times do I movement ? Well There's
04:30 1 , 2 , 3 Zeros when I divide by
04:34 thousands . That's how many times of movements ? Who
04:36 won ? Two ? That's right decimal place in the
04:40 area . Right ? That in blue and the answer
04:44 becomes a .007 . Okay , so seven m Is
04:50 the same as .007 km . Okay , well through
04:55 another one . Okay , how about this one nine
05:01 0.2 kilometers equals how many millimeters . Okay , so
05:09 to do this , let's think about what we have
05:12 to do . We're going from kilometers two . So
05:17 what we're doing is first we're gonna get a number
05:20 of times that by 1000 Times and answered by a
05:23 100 And times that answer by 10 . So this
05:27 nine point to hear the answer is going to get
05:29 bigger . The number is going to be bigger because
05:30 we're timing . Okay , so how many times do
05:33 I have to move this testimony place here ? Well
05:35 let's count it 123 456 times the answer is getting
05:42 bigger . So the test someplace is going this way
05:44 and it's moving six times 123456 . And we put
05:52 zeros here . Okay so 9.2 km as far as
05:59 millimeters goes is 9,200,000 . Okay we'll give another example
06:09 ago . Okay . What I want to know is
06:14 90 millimeters . Oh I know what that is .
06:20 There's a meters . Okay so how many meters ?
06:25 So let's work this out . What we're doing is
06:30 we're going from millimeters two m . So we're going
06:35 dividing 90 x 10 and then we can divide by
06:39 100 . Okay so my nightie here decimal place here
06:44 . I have to move the decimal place because I'm
06:46 dividing and I'm just gonna get smaller desks . Yeah
06:49 it's going to move this way . The decimals and
06:51 I had to move it one two three times .
06:55 I was counting the number of Zeros So 123 or
07:00 put a zero there . Alright , 90 equals 0.090
07:08 maidens . What about one final example ? Okay ,
07:14 what about 4.38 km equals how many centimeters . Okay
07:27 , okay . To get between these let's have a
07:29 look . So we're going from kilometers and we're moving
07:33 to centimeters so we're going to divide , I have
07:37 4.3 1st we'll get times by 1000 then we have
07:40 two times 100 because we're timing The number is going
07:44 to get bigger . Alright with 4.38 here and I
07:48 count how many times I have to move this decimal
07:50 place . 123 45 So 12345 and I put some
08:00 zeros there . Okay , I'll get rid of that
08:03 decimal place . So In 4.38 km There is 438,000
08:12 cm . Okay , nice . Yeah , what I
08:16 really recommend with this , you really should know how
08:19 to convert between this , this is one of these
08:20 fundamental things with maths that you really should be able
08:23 to do . Um however , what I'd recommend is
08:27 if you start doing it , the first thing the
08:30 bottom , the bottom line , the most basic things
08:32 you should know Is that there are 10 in one
08:37 centimeter But there are a 100 cm in one m
08:42 That there are 1000 m in one kilometer from this
08:49 , you should then be able to attempt to draw
08:53 a diagram like we have here . Okay , and
08:57 in that same method which we did before using this
09:00 , you should be able to convert between meters kilometers
09:04 centimeters millimeters without really that much of a problem .
09:08 The way why not recommend especially doing a building trade
09:11 or something like that to be able to convert between
09:13 is millimeters and m where okay to go from m
09:19 two . All up Timing by 110 so it's 1000
09:25 . So you get used to this conversion 1000 in
09:28 between each time anyway , I hope you get really
09:31 good at these . Good luck with that like I
09:33 bought .
