| 00:05 | to master your times tables , especially upper times tables | |
| 00:09 | are under 10 . And this would be , you'll | |
| 00:12 | be able to do this in under 10 minutes . | |
| 00:13 | You'll be able to get much , much better at | |
| 00:15 | these . Uh this is a great little trick now | |
| 00:19 | , it does require a couple of things that requires | |
| 00:21 | you . First off , it's really , really handy | |
| 00:23 | with these , you know , your ones , two | |
| 00:25 | threes times tables . Okay . We're gonna be looking | |
| 00:27 | at how you can master , say your sevens , | |
| 00:29 | your eight year nine , even your sixes pretty rapidly | |
| 00:34 | , but it would be good to know you're ones | |
| 00:35 | , twos and threes types times tables . It's also | |
| 00:38 | really good to be able to add and subtract pretty | |
| 00:41 | simple numbers . Okay , so we have much further | |
| 00:44 | ado we'll get into these and I'll show you how | |
| 00:46 | the trick I'm working these out . So What about | |
| 00:50 | to give you an example ? Uh say I was | |
| 00:53 | asking to calculate seven times nine . Okay , nice | |
| 00:59 | and easy . I'll move it up there a little | |
| 01:01 | bit and we want to work this out . First | |
| 01:06 | off , the way we do . This trick is | |
| 01:08 | as follows underneath this . Going to write how far | |
| 01:11 | these numbers are from 10 . So this seven here | |
| 01:15 | is three away from 10 . 7 plus three is | |
| 01:18 | 10 . And this nine here , how far away | |
| 01:20 | is that from 10 ? It's one away . Okay | |
| 01:22 | , So we've got two numbers underneath . All right | |
| 01:27 | , that's our first step . The second step is | |
| 01:29 | we're going to subtract these numbers diagonally and I'll show | |
| 01:32 | you what I mean by this . Okay , So | |
| 01:35 | this means either we're going to take one from seven | |
| 01:37 | or three from nine . It's going to give us | |
| 01:39 | the same answer and that's going to be the first | |
| 01:41 | part of our answer . Okay , so seven take | |
| 01:44 | away one is six The same way now I take | |
| 01:48 | away three is 6 . The next thing we do | |
| 01:52 | is we're going to multiply these two numbers here . | |
| 01:56 | Okay , so three times one is three and that | |
| 02:00 | is our answer . Pretty easy . Right ? Yeah | |
| 02:04 | . So our steps we're going to do first off | |
| 02:06 | , remember we see how far we are from 10 | |
| 02:08 | . Okay . We write those underneath . We then | |
| 02:11 | diagonally subtract and then we multiply these bottom numbers but | |
| 02:16 | they're really , really easy numbers to multiply . Okay | |
| 02:20 | , what about Ir give you another example here . | |
| 02:24 | I didn't say this was going to be nice and | |
| 02:25 | you didn't know what ? All right . What about | |
| 02:28 | we have another look here and we'll have a look | |
| 02:31 | at what about right times seven . Okay . So | |
| 02:39 | first off what we do is we see how for | |
| 02:45 | underneath 10 we are . So this is to under | |
| 02:47 | 10 and this is three . Under 10 . Okay | |
| 02:52 | . The next thing we diet only subtracts a seven | |
| 02:55 | take away . Two is five or eight take away | |
| 02:58 | three is also five . And then we multiply these | |
| 03:01 | two numbers two times three is six . That's pretty | |
| 03:07 | cool . Right ? It's a really , really easy | |
| 03:10 | way of working these out . I tell you what | |
| 03:12 | , I'll give you a couple more of these practice | |
| 03:15 | and then we'll call that a day almost I reckon | |
| 03:19 | . So what about a couple more of these ? | |
| 03:21 | What about We do nine times 9 . We do | |
| 03:30 | nine times six . We also are going to do | |
| 03:36 | seven times 7 . Yeah . Give these a quick | |
| 03:42 | go and we'll see how you go . So I'm | |
| 03:45 | going to answer these right now but you can pause | |
| 03:46 | the video and then we'll go through these answers . | |
| 03:49 | So first off this is one under 10 . This | |
| 03:52 | is one under 10 . Okay , so nine take | |
| 03:55 | away one is 8 . one times 1 is one | |
| 04:01 | . The next one set 9 times six this is | |
| 04:04 | nine is one under 10 . 6 is four under | |
| 04:07 | 10 . Nine take away for is five the same | |
| 04:12 | way six take away one is 51 times four . | |
| 04:17 | This four . Okay , the last one . How | |
| 04:20 | are you going so far ? Probably good . I | |
| 04:22 | hope . What about this next one ? This is | |
| 04:26 | three under 10 . This is three under 10 . | |
| 04:30 | Okay . seven take away three is four then 3 | |
| 04:34 | times three Is nine . How easy is that for | |
| 04:39 | learning your times tables now ? Look , I still | |
| 04:42 | think it's really , really important that you do learn | |
| 04:45 | your times tables . I mean do you need to | |
| 04:46 | learn these upper times tables ? Now ? You've got | |
| 04:48 | this method , It means you probably could get away | |
| 04:51 | with not doing it . Uh , So you don't | |
| 04:53 | have to memorize your tables like in the past , | |
| 04:55 | possibly because with a little practice what happens is you'll | |
| 04:58 | do seven times and you'll calculate it . Listen , | |
| 05:01 | you calculated a dozen times , you would just start | |
| 05:04 | remembering the answers and that sort of deal . So | |
| 05:06 | you have learned your times tables . All right . | |
| 05:09 | Um , but it's a really , really great method | |
| 05:11 | , especially when you're starting those particular , uh , | |
| 05:14 | times tables out . Anyway . I hope that was | |
