00:0-1 Good day . Welcome to Tech Math channel , Great
00:01 Little Math problem here for you to solve what we
00:04 have is we have a square and inside the square
00:08 from a central interior point , we have four lines
00:11 radiating out there radiating out and they're hitting the midpoint
00:15 of each one of these sides here . So this
00:17 line goes from the interior and it's the midpoint of
00:19 this side . This line is going off to the
00:21 midpoint of this side and so on and so forth
00:24 . What it's done is it's broken up our square
00:26 into four unequal parts ones , 24 centimeters once ,
00:30 30 centimeters squared once 48 centimeters squared . This is
00:34 your problem . This is the part you're trying to
00:36 work out how big is this unknown party . Just
00:40 a little thing here . This diagram is not drawn
00:42 to scale . This is not a problem where you're
00:43 going to be using measurement to work it out ,
00:46 you're going to use a bit of logic anyway ,
00:48 Good luck solving that , pause the video , give
00:50 it a go and then I'll come back in a
00:52 second with the solution . Mhm Okay . All right
01:10 , time's up . How did you go ? Did
01:11 you work that out if you did ? Congratulations .
01:14 If not . Well , I'll tell you what ,
01:15 I'll go through right now . How I go through
01:17 solving this and you might want to pause it even
01:19 just a little bit into this . If you are
01:21 starting to get the idea , that might be enough
01:23 of a hint to keep you going . If you
01:24 didn't solve it , that is so the first thing
01:26 we're going to do is we're going to break each
01:28 of our parts into two . We're going to do
01:30 that by drawing a line from the corner to the
01:33 interior part here . Breaking the 24 centimeter part into
01:36 two . We're going to break the 30 centimetre part
01:38 into two . We're going to break the 48 centimeter
01:41 , pardon the two . And we're going to break
01:44 the unknown part into two . Maybe you can go
01:47 on from here and solve it if you didn't have
01:49 success in solving it before , but I'm about to
01:51 go on with how we would complete this now .
01:53 So as you can see , we have formed a
01:55 triangles and this is what you may notice with these
01:57 particular triangles . Each triangle has a twin which has
02:01 the same amount of area in it . For instance
02:04 , this triangle has the same base and height as
02:07 this triangle base and height . So therefore they have
02:10 the same amount of area . In fact , we're
02:12 going to label them anna . They both have the
02:15 same amount of area . This triangle and this triangle
02:18 have the same area also . They have the same
02:20 base and they have the same height . So B
02:23 and B . Here . this triangle in this triangle
02:25 here have the same area , They have the same
02:27 base and the same height , C . And C
02:30 . And they surprise the same area for these two
02:33 triangles here . So we have these identical triangles ,
02:37 identical , identical pair , be identical pair , C
02:40 . And identical pair . So we're going to use
02:43 this now to solve our particular our problem . Alright
02:47 , at any stage with this , by the way
02:48 , paws up and see if you can solve whatever
02:50 you got stuck from a particular point . I think
02:52 that's also a good thing . What you might notice
02:54 is this A plus B plus C plus D .
02:57 Is going to be the same as A plus B
03:00 plus C plus D . We're going to use this
03:02 to solve . So first off , we know am
03:05 be here . So A Plus B . What does
03:08 that equal ? Well , a plus B is equal
03:10 to 24 . We knew that already . We're going
03:12 to add that to C plus D . Now what
03:15 is C . Plus D . C . Plus these
03:16 over here ? This is 48 so C plus D
03:19 . Is 48 . So we'd add all these A
03:21 plus B plus C plus D . Together . We're
03:23 going to get 24 plus 48 which is 72 .
03:27 Now let's do it for these diagonals where we have
03:30 B plus C . We're not . B plus C
03:32 is equal to B plus C is equal to 30
03:36 . And if we were to add it to a
03:38 plus D . Here , A plus D . Once
03:41 again , you're going to notice we have A .
03:43 B . C . D . So all that's accounted
03:45 for this would equal 72 also . So 30 plus
03:50 what equals 72 or 30 plus 42 equals 72 therefore
03:56 a plus D . Is equal to 42 . And
04:00 so that's our answer . Our answer is the unknown
04:02 section is 42 cm squared . It's a great little
04:07 solution , right ? To really , really are deceptively
04:09 simple little uh problem to work out . But I
04:12 think it's a really , really good one . So
04:14 that's how you go through and solve it . If
04:16 you like this video , please hit the like button
04:18 and comment down below . Tell me how you went
04:20 anyway , thank you for watching . And we'll see
04:21 you next time . Bye .
