00:12 | learning about the state of Oregon . That's right .
00:15 | The state of Oregon . Yeah . Hey , do
00:21 | you happen to already know where Oregon is ? Where
00:24 | is the state of Oregon ? Do you know ?
00:28 | Yeah . The state of Oregon is up here in
00:33 | the northwest corner of the United States , the top
00:36 | left portion of the Continental United States in a region
00:41 | called the pacific northwest . Okay , now we're going
00:49 | to look at what surrounds the state of Oregon .
00:54 | First , we're going to look at what borders Oregon
00:57 | to the west , which is the pacific ocean .
01:00 | In fact , Oregon is considered one of the pacific
01:03 | States because the pacific ocean borders Oregon . Yeah .
01:09 | Then bordering Oregon to the north is the state of
01:13 | Washington , bordering Oregon to the east is the state
01:20 | of Idaho . And then there are two states bordering
01:26 | Oregon to the south , the state of Nevada to
01:29 | the south east and directly below Oregon to the south
01:35 | . The state of California to review Oregon is right
01:43 | here on the United States map in a region of
01:45 | the United States called the pacific northwest . All right
01:54 | now that we know where the state of Oregon is
01:57 | , we want to look at what the main nickname
02:00 | of Oregon is , because it's gonna tell us some
02:02 | interesting things about the state . The main nickname of
02:09 | Oregon is the beaver state . Yeah , the beaver
02:13 | state is another name that the state of Oregon goes
02:16 | by . Wait , why is Oregon called the beaver
02:21 | State ? Beavers are cool , but why would Oregon
02:24 | be called the beaver State ? Why is the beaver
02:26 | state another name for the state of Oregon ? Well
02:34 | , there are many beavers that live in Oregon ,
02:36 | especially near streams . Beavers love to work and live
02:41 | near streams and hats made out of beaver fur became
02:47 | really popular in the 18 hundreds , so there were
02:52 | a lot of beavers living in Oregon and beaver hats
02:56 | became really popular . So there are a lot of
02:59 | those animals there and it became big business in Oregon
03:03 | . Another reason why Oregon is the beaver state is
03:08 | because they love some of the qualities of beavers ,
03:11 | like how intelligent they are , how hard working they
03:15 | are and how creative they are with finding solutions to
03:19 | different problems as they work in and around the stream
03:23 | . Beavers are also the state animal of Oregon and
03:29 | they're also a reminder , as you can see in
03:31 | this picture to always brush your teeth seriously . There
03:36 | are no beaver dentists and it's important to brush your
03:39 | teeth and go to the dentist . Okay , great
03:45 | ! So Oregon's nickname is the beaver state . They
03:48 | have tons of beavers in Oregon . Beaver hats were
03:51 | very popular in the 18 hundreds and beavers have some
03:56 | cool qualities , like they're really smart , really hard
03:58 | working and really creative , cool . Now let's look
04:04 | at the flag of the state of Oregon . It
04:09 | is a navy blue flag with the symbols and lettering
04:13 | in gold , which is the state color of Oregon
04:17 | . It almost looks like a yellowish gold , but
04:20 | it is gold . It features part of the state
04:25 | seal , which includes a wagon from western expansion into
04:29 | Oregon and eagle on top and 33 gold stars representing
04:35 | Oregon's admission to the United States as the 33rd ST
04:43 | Below that is the year 1859 . The year Oregon
04:47 | became one of the United States . Now , are
04:52 | you ready for a surprise . The Oregon State flag
04:55 | is the only state flag that is double sided with
04:58 | a different design on the back . The back of
05:05 | the Oregon flag features a golden beaver . Yeah ,
05:08 | the beaver stay . It's just a beaver on the
05:11 | back . So the flag of the state of Oregon
05:14 | looks like this on the front and looks like this
05:18 | on the back . Yeah . All right now we
05:24 | are going to look at two key places in the
05:26 | state of Oregon . The first place is a city
05:29 | called Salem . Salem is the capital of Oregon .
05:35 | Then further north is the city of Portland . Portland
05:39 | is the largest city in Oregon . We hope you're
05:46 | ready for our final question . What is the state
05:49 | bird of Oregon ? What is the state bird of
05:53 | Oregon ? The state bird of Oregon is the western
05:58 | meadowlark . The western metal lark . A bird that
06:02 | has a yellow belly that's a little bit chunky .
06:06 | Mhm . Western meadowlark , love the beautiful wide open
06:12 | spaces of Oregon and love feasting on insects . That's
