03:37 look at uh positive statements first , how to use
03:41 have to for a positive statement . Then we are
03:44 going to look at negative statements and then finally we're
03:48 going to talk about questions too . So please if
03:52 you are joining live or even if you're not live

04:12 . Cool . And martin . Welcome . Okay ,
04:14 good . Everyone is here . I'm going to share
04:16 the video but I'm okay . It is done .
04:19 I've shared it now . Let's start . So let's
04:22 begin today with positive statements . Positive statements . Also
04:28 , I'm going to start now . So the lesson
04:30 now . So if you haven't , please make sure
04:31 to like and share the video , it helps other
04:35 people uh see it . Okay positive statements , let's
04:39 talk about positive statements with have to and today's lesson
04:45 is about have to , I'm focusing on have to
04:48 but you can use need to need to in the
04:52 same way okay I'm not going to focus on that
04:55 point , but you can do that . So let's
04:57 begin positive statements . When do we use have to
05:01 , we use have to to express a responsibility .
05:05 Something you must do . We don't use must and
05:10 have to interchangeably must in everyday speech sounds a little
05:15 too polite or a little too formal . So usually
05:19 in everyday conversation we use have to to talk about
05:23 our everyday activities are everyday responsibilities . Okay then if
05:30 you do not do the action there will be a
05:33 problem . This is the feeling with have to .
05:36 So if you say I have to do something it
05:40 sounds like if you do not do that thing there
05:44 will be some problem in the future . Okay .
05:48 So here's our basic pattern for today's lesson . We
05:52 have our subject . I you we he she they
05:57 and so on it . Plus I have to .
06:01 And then the base form of our verb , the
06:03 infinitive form . The basic form there . Okay ,
06:06 this is the basic form . Uh Menelik um Kamel
06:10 on Youtube . Thanks very much for supporting our channel
06:12 . That's awesome . Okay so depending on your subject
06:16 if your subject is I you we they we follow
06:21 this pattern . I have to you have to we
06:24 have to and so on . If your subject is
06:27 he or she or it you use has to he
06:30 has to or she has to and so on .
06:33 All right , so let's look at some example sentences
06:37 they use this grammar . You those of you watching
06:41 out there . You can comment and use this basic
06:44 pattern to express one of your responsibilities this week .
06:51 Express responsibility this week . Okay , So let's look
06:54 at some examples . Now for example , I have
06:57 to go to work . I have to go to
07:00 work . We tend to reduce these sounds in speech
07:05 . So a pronunciation point when I'm speaking just like
07:09 everyday speech , I don't say I have to go
07:13 to work . It comes out as I have to
07:15 go to work . I have to go to work
07:17 . So this vat and become very soft . I
07:21 have to have to have to go to work .
07:23 Okay ? So I have to go to work or
07:26 I have to go to school . Very common responsibilities
07:29 . Yeah . Okay . Another one he has to
07:34 come to the meeting . He has to come to
07:38 the meeting . So again this part becomes a little
07:42 softer in speech . Not he has to come but
07:46 he has to come . He has to come .
07:48 So these two sounds kind of come together . They
07:51 reduced together . He has to come to the meeting
07:54 . Okay . All right . Uh Jambo on facebook
07:58 says I have to learn this lesson or I have
08:00 to learn this grammar . Yeah . Nice . Okay
08:04 . Next one is we have to organize a party
08:08 . We have to organize a party . Great .
08:12 So in this case we have the same have to
08:15 hear . But are subject is we we have to
08:19 organize a party . And finally down here you have
08:23 to see that movie . You have to see that
08:27 movie . I included this one . This example sentence
08:30 here . You have to see that movie because this
08:33 uh Yes , it uses the have to grammar point
08:37 but we use this with this you subject like you
08:40 have to double Badu some activity in this case to
08:44 see a movie . This is friendly but strong advice
08:48 . We use have to in this way to express
08:51 advice like strong recommendations . We can use have to
08:55 to do that . Okay , these are raised .
08:58 Albuquerque says I have to eat fried potatoes . Really
09:02 it's your responsibility , that's your responsibility . So a
09:06 good point is generally we use this to talk about
09:10 our responsibilities . So like uh to like to take
09:14 care of ourselves or to take care of work or
09:17 our studies and so on . If you want to
09:19 be a little bit funny , you can use have
09:22 to like in your example , like I have to
09:24 eat french fries , you can use it to make
09:27 kind of jokey sentences . Great , lots of examples
09:31 are coming in Esther Destiny high on facebook says I
09:35 have to go to the gym . Great , Great
09:37 , very nice one . Um , Rodrigo says ,
09:40 yeah , we have to stay at home . Yeah
09:43 , many countries right now have to stay at home
09:46 . Great example , sentence Okay , rotten Roy says
09:50 I have to play cricket . Very nice , very
09:52 nice . Okay , on youtube , victor . Vidal
09:55 says we have to practice conversation a lot . Great
09:58 . Yes , I hope so . Um , Michelle
10:00 says I have to watch the live streaming class of
10:04 english with Alicia . Nice . Yeah , so I
10:06 have more , maybe more naturally I have to watch
10:09 Alicia's livestreamed class . I would say that probably .
10:14 Okay . Um , oh Byron wrote you got to
10:17 visit Nicaragua . Yeah , so you can use ,
10:20 you've , you've got to or you gotta yeah ,
10:24 in a similar way to express strong advice . Great
10:28 tons of great example sentences , many people are writing
10:31 , I have to study for my english exam tomorrow
10:33 , like german on youtube . Very nice , very
10:35 nice . I have to start you every day .
10:37 Okay , well , so she says I have to
10:39 drink hot chocolate every hour . It's very interesting responsibility
10:44 . Okay , all right . I think everybody is
10:47 doing a great job with this grammar point . Very
10:49 , very nice , very nice . Okay , so
10:51 positive statements sounds great . Everyone you're doing a great
10:54 job with this grammar point . Okay , let's take
10:57 one short break and then we'll go to part two
11:00 . Part two is about negative statements and that's the
11:04 part that I often see mistakes in . So let's
11:07 go to that next very quickly if you missed it
11:10 before . I saw a couple questions in the chat
11:12 just now about how to get lessons , how to
11:15 take a course with our videos . This banner at
11:18 the bottom of the screen , this get 31 off
11:21 banner Is about this page on our website at English
11:26 Class 11.com . That you can see . I'm sorry
11:30 , get in the second that you can see uh
11:33 if you click on this link , so if you
11:34 click on this link , you'll go to the page
11:37 that has the different plans for our courses . So
11:40 you can check which plan is the best for you
11:42 if you want to study with our lessons . So
11:45 there's details here about the differences between them . So
11:49 if you have that question , please check the link
11:51 below the video if you're watching on Youtube or above
11:54 the video , if you're watching facebook , so you
11:57 can take a look there . Okay , Okay ,
12:00 let's continue . Let's go to negative statements . Also
12:03 , if you haven't , please , please please make
12:04 sure to hit the like button and share the video
12:07 . It helps uh the algorithm find this video .
12:11 Let's go to part two . I'll show you today's
12:13 lesson board so you can take a picture again if
12:16 you want . We talked about positive statements at the
12:19 beginning now we are going to talk about negative statements
12:23 . As I said , this is the point .
12:24 I see lots of learners make mistakes with with this
12:27 grammar point . So let's go let's take a look
12:31 . Okay negative statements , negative statements . What is
12:35 the deal ? Negative statements . Okay so negative statements
12:40 with have to we use don't have to or doesn't
12:45 have to to create the negative form of this grammar
12:49 . I don't have to do something . He doesn't
12:52 have to do something . So we use don't have
12:55 to to express something . You do not have a
13:00 responsibility to do so no responsibility . Okay . But
13:05 right here this key point . This is the part
13:07 that I see learners make mistakes with . We use
13:11 don't have to to uh express an action . That
13:16 is a reasonable expectation , a reasonable expectation . So
13:21 that means something we can expect you are responsible for
13:26 . So here's a here's a good example . This
13:29 sentence is grammatically correct , but it doesn't make much
13:33 sense with this grammar point . This is I don't
13:37 have to drink alcohol at work , I don't have
13:40 to drink alcohol at work . Okay ? But the
13:44 reason this sentence sounds really strange is because for most
13:49 people we don't drink alcohol at work . It's not
13:53 a reasonable expectation , it's not a reasonable responsibility .
13:58 Right ? So this sentence sounds a little strange .
14:01 We use this grammar point to talk about things that
14:05 are reasonable in our everyday lives are in our everyday
14:08 situation . Okay , so please try to remember this
14:13 point when you make your example sentences today . Okay
14:18 , so uh you can okay , I talked about
14:21 this then last point here , you can use this
14:24 to describe an action . You can do later .
14:28 So this means I don't have to do something now
14:32 . I'm going to do it later . I'll show
14:34 you another example sentence in a minute . Okay ,
14:37 So here is the basic pattern for the negative statement
14:44 we have again are subject and then don't or doesn't
14:49 plus have to and our base verb or infinitive verb
14:53 here . Okay , so subject meaning I don't or
14:57 you don't we don't and so on and with doesn't
15:02 he doesn't she doesn't It doesn't . These are the
15:06 reduced forms . Do not and does not we use
15:09 don't and doesn't typically in everyday speech . Okay .
15:14 The Horror wrote , you don't have to apologize .
15:17 Very nice example . Okay . All right . Uh
15:20 , Cesar said , we don't have to go to
15:22 work on sunday is very nice , very nice .
15:25 Okay , so some of you are already doing making
15:28 this error . So a reasonable expectation when you make
15:33 a sentence with this , make a sentence about something
15:37 we can reasonably expect . So do we expect that
15:41 you have to eat cookies every sunday ? Most people
15:45 probably know . I think so . Try to think
15:48 about an expectation . Typical expectations . Okay , so
15:53 if you are watching live or you want to practise
15:56 later , here is your comment , your chat comment
15:58 homework , express something you do not have a responsibility
16:03 to do this week . You do not have a
16:06 responsibility to do . Okay . Uh Leo Hernandez on
16:11 facebook , I don't have to arrive late to work
16:14 . Okay . Your sentence is grammatically correct . But
16:17 because you use this grammar point , it sounds like
16:21 they expect you to arrive late at work , which
16:23 is not true . Right , So that sentence I
16:27 would write , I shouldn't arrive late to work .
16:30 Remember expectation and responsibility is the key here . Let's
16:35 look at some examples . I don't have to go
16:38 to work or I don't have to go to work
16:40 today . This sentence sounds natural because it's a weekday
16:45 . There's an expectation . We expect . I have
16:49 a responsibility to go to work , right ? Or
16:52 school . Okay . I don't have to go to
16:55 work , so I have no responsibility to go to
16:58 work . Okay . Another one . We don't have
17:02 to organize a party . We don't have to organize
17:04 a party . So maybe we could use this sentence
17:09 in a situation where there's an office birthday maybe and
17:14 someone says that we don't have to organize a party
17:17 , that person is taking a holiday . We don't
17:20 have to organize a party . So we don't have
17:23 any responsibility here . Okay then I don't have to
17:29 go to the bank today . I can go tomorrow
17:32 . I don't have to go to the bank today
17:34 . I can go tomorrow . So this is an
17:38 example of this kind of sentence to describe an action
17:42 you can do later . Okay , so remember the
17:46 key is to express a reasonable expectation . Who february
17:51 kmt on facebook said we don't have to attend the
17:54 meeting this week . Perfect . Very nice example .
17:57 Very nice example . Ooh , niche also on facebook
18:01 says I don't have to go to work for a
18:03 long time . Great , very nice example . Uh
18:07 , anger juma Kahm malakal on facebook says I don't
18:11 have to play football today . Okay . David Wyland
18:14 wrote , I don't have to drink alcohol . Okay
18:17 . Again , grammatically correct . But is it reasonable
18:21 if it's maybe reasonable in your life to drink alcohol
18:24 ? Maybe you're a bartender or something . If it's
18:27 reasonable for your everyday life ? It's okay to use
18:31 . Okay . Other examples . Let's see Youtube .
18:35 How is it going over here on Youtube ? Um
18:38 , Oh , so she has a nice example .
18:40 We don't have to worry about making any mistakes when
18:43 we speak . English . Nice one . Very nice
18:46 one . Victor says we don't have to travel to
18:49 the moon . I guess . That's true . That's
18:51 true . We don't have to travel to the moon
18:54 , but it seems excited . Good example . Okay
18:57 . Uh Agatha says , I don't have to go
18:59 to work this week . Very nice . Okay .
19:01 Even even even Tavarez , I hope says you don't
19:05 have to take a day off . Good , good
19:07 example , good example , daniella Calderoni high says I
19:11 do not have to go to the office , I
19:13 can work at home . Very nice . Okay ,
19:15 great . So many good examples decrease says you don't
19:18 have to see the specialist this afternoon . Natalia says
19:22 , I don't have to wake up early tomorrow .
19:24 Nice . So many good ones . Hey , that
19:26 looks great . That looks great . Everybody's got it
19:29 , you fix this issue . That sounds awesome .
19:31 Perfect . Okay , you that was great , awesome
19:36 job . Everybody . Okay , I think it looks
19:38 good . So let's go to the last part .
19:40 Let's focus on using this grammar to create questions now
19:44 . Okay . Nice work . Everybody that was awesome
19:47 . Sorry , I didn't read all your examples .
19:48 There are so many on facebook and on Youtube .
19:52 Great work . Okay , let's go to the last
19:55 part . Let's go to talking about questions . How
19:58 do we make questions ? This is really important ,
20:00 especially at work and at school knowing how to make
20:04 questions with this uh this grammar . Let's go .
20:09 So questions . How do we use have to to
20:13 make questions ? You can make some questions . Uh
20:17 and maybe you can check the chat to check the
20:20 chat or the comments for some question ideas as well
20:23 . Okay , uh let's go to making questions then
20:27 . So why do we need to make questions with
20:30 ? Have to , we use have to or need
20:33 two questions to ask for information about our responsibilities .
20:39 Yeah . We need some details about the responsibility .
20:42 Or we need to ask for a reason for responsibility
20:48 . Like why questions and we use yes or no
20:52 have two questions to confirm a responsibility . So confirm
20:58 means uh like to get a yes or no answer
21:01 something I have to do or don't have to do
21:05 . So questions are very , very important with this
21:09 grammar point . So let's look at the basic pattern
21:12 here . There are actually two first when you want
21:17 to use a wh question . Who ? What where
21:20 when why how those those questions put it at the
21:23 beginning and then do or does this depends on your
21:28 subject here , then end with half two and your
21:32 base verb . Okay so for example here what do
21:40 we have to do today ? What do we have
21:43 to do today ? This is a question you can
21:46 use with your co workers in the morning . So
21:49 to check your to do list for the day ,
21:52 what do we have to do today ? What are
21:54 our responsibilities for the day ? What do we have
21:57 to do today ? Right here . So this follows
22:00 this . Wh question what followed by do here we
22:05 use do because the subject is we ? Yeah .
22:08 What do we have to do have to do is
22:12 the base form of the verb and today tells us
22:16 the time , period time information . Okay good .
22:21 Let's go to the next one . Next one is
22:24 where does he have to buy tickets ? Where does
22:28 he have to buy tickets ? So in this sentence
22:31 my wh question is where where then I use does
22:37 because my subject is he ? So remember if your
22:40 subject is he she or it you need to use
22:43 , does you have to use does Okay . All
22:48 right . Where does he have to buy tickets ?
22:50 Okay . Finally , this is another really good question
22:53 for parties . For meetings at work at school when
22:57 you're visiting someone else . When do you have to
23:01 leave ? When do you have to leave ? So
23:04 this is asking about someone's schedule . When are they
23:07 going to leave ? Or when do they have to
23:10 leave ? The current location , kim's Ron whore .
23:15 High on facebook says , where do we have to
23:17 go today ? Perfect . Okay , Cesar says ,
23:19 what do I have to study tonight ? Very nice
23:21 . Okay , Massoud says , why do we have
23:24 to wear a mask ? Very good , nice example
23:26 , sentence free Youtuber says , When does she have
23:29 to go ? Very nice . Okay . Um no
23:32 Hora says , what do you have to do next
23:34 week ? Very nice . Belgian says , how long
23:37 do I have to do the things I don't want
23:39 ? Maybe forever . All of us , a few
23:42 things we don't want to do , right , a
23:45 good job . What do I have to do today
23:47 ? A few people are writing that . Fantastic .
23:50 Okay , very , very nice . So this is
23:54 the wh question pattern style question . We want to
23:58 get some information also . I didn't include it here
24:03 , but we often use this uh to ask for
24:07 a reason why like why do I have to do
24:11 something ? Why do I have to come to the
24:14 office or why do I have to learn this ?
24:16 So you can use why questions as well . Okay
24:21 , let's go to the final point , yes or
24:24 no questions , yes or no questions are used for
24:27 confirmation . Like I said confirmation means we check right
24:31 we get a yes or no answer to confirm something
24:36 . For example , does he have to leave early
24:40 today ? Does he have to leave early today ?
24:43 Yes he does or no . He doesn't . So
24:47 to make these questions we can use the same pattern
24:51 I talked about here . This pattern is the same
24:53 . Just remove the wh question . Yeah . So
24:57 the question begins with do or does . Yeah .
25:01 So this part of the pattern , does he have
25:04 to leave early today ? Yes or no ? Simple
25:08 yes or no response is perfectly fine . Okay another
25:12 one . Do you have to go to a meeting
25:15 later ? Do you have to go to a meeting
25:18 later ? So you're asking about someone's schedule for later
25:22 in the day . Do you have to go to
25:23 a meeting later ? No . Okay let's let's get
25:26 lunch , that kind of thing . Finally , I
25:29 wanted to include this one right here . It has
25:31 this sad face . Yeah . Beautiful sad face .
25:35 This question is do we have to , do we
25:38 have to ? This is such a common question and
25:42 it might not seem so clear like there's no verb
25:45 here . Right . Do we have to ? There's
25:47 no verb . This is used often to complain about
25:52 something you don't want to do . You can change
25:55 this of course . Do we have to or do
25:57 I have to ? So if you receive a request
26:01 like for example you like working from home but you
26:04 have to go to your office or you have to
26:06 go somewhere you don't want to go . You can
26:09 say do I have to . In that case no
26:13 verb is necessary . Like when the action is clear
26:17 , you can drop the verb in this case .
26:19 So this is a way to complain . You're asking
26:23 really ? I have to I have this responsibility to
26:27 do this and we usually use that sound with our
26:31 voice . That tone of voice . It communicates were
26:34 unhappy . Were complaining . Do I have to ,
26:37 do we have to ? So you can use this
26:40 to make a very informal complaint . I don't recommend
26:44 using this with your boss . Don't use this in
26:46 a polite situation . Uh But you can use this
26:49 usually with family or friends uh to complain in a
26:53 way . It's a good one . Very very common
26:56 . So that's why there's no verb at the end
26:58 . There we have to because we understand from the
27:02 conversation Jill Injun on Youtube says do I have to
27:06 finish my homework ? Good example . Very good example
27:09 . Do I have to ? Okay , very good
27:12 . Other ones . Uh jean , jean Carlos on
27:17 Youtube . I saw your question . Let me find
27:19 it again . Jean Carlos , Morales is don't you
27:22 have to work today ? Yeah . Great one .
27:25 You can use the negative form here as well to
27:28 make a confirmation question . Like you think the other
27:33 person has to work And you want to confirm that
27:37 you can use the negative . Yeah . Don't you
27:40 have to work today ? That means I think you
27:43 have to work today , but you're not working .
27:45 So I want to check . I'll use the negative
27:48 form here instead . Don't you have to work today
27:51 ? Great one . Great 1 . I didn't cover
27:53 that grammar in today's lesson . Nice sentence . Okay
27:56 . Okay . Other ones , many people are writing
27:58 about homework . Do we have to do the homework
28:00 today ? Probably . Probably . Okay . Others do
28:05 we have to memorize this lesson ? No , you
28:07 don't have to memorize this whole lesson . But I
28:10 think if you want to make sure you can speak
28:13 and write well , you should remember this grammar point
28:17 . You should remember the skin or you have to
28:18 remember this grammar point . Okay . Very nice examples
28:22 . Everybody . Fantastic job with this grammar point .
28:25 This is easy for you . You have lots of
28:28 very exciting and interesting example sentences today . It's great
28:32 . Very nice . Okay , I have to finish
