00:0-1 based on what you've learned so far about factoring the
00:03 first thing you're gonna probably try to do here is
00:05 factor out the greatest common factor . The problem is
00:10 there is no factor that is in common to these
00:12 three terms . So you might think that this problem
00:15 is unf act terrible . However the try no meal
00:20 that you see is in a special form that can
00:23 be factored in a new way . The first term
00:27 has an X square , the second term has an
00:31 X and the third term is a constant term .
00:36 When a try no meals in this form , it
00:38 can be factored as the product of two by no
00:42 meals . In other words , we're gonna set up
00:46 two sets of parentheses and within each set of parentheses
00:51 will be the two terms that compose each by no
00:53 meal . So what goes inside these parentheses ? Well
00:59 , the first term in each by no meal will
01:02 be a factor of the X square since X squared
01:06 factors as X times X . We use X as
01:11 the first term in each binomial . The second term
01:16 in each binomial will be a factor of your constant
01:20 term or your 10 . The problem is 10 factors
01:25 in different ways . 10 can be thought of as
01:29 10 times one Or it can also be thought of
01:32 as five times 2 . So how do we know
01:35 whether you use a 10 and a one or a
01:37 five and a two ? We'll take a look at
01:40 your middle term in your original polynomial . The rule
01:44 is the factors of the last term that you will
01:47 use have to add to the middle term in the
01:50 original . Try no meal . So which pair of
01:53 factors adds to 7 ? Well five and two .
02:01 So we're going to put a five In our first
02:05 binomial and a two in our second and there's your
02:09 answer which is a factored version of X squared plus
02:13 seven X plus 10 .
