Amazing Peacock
Did you know that the term, “peacock” really only refers to the male of its species? A female peafowl is actually called a “peahen.” Peacocks are native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia and are known for their brilliantly colored feathers. Their bodies can be thirty-five to fifty inches, while their beautiful tails can be as long as five feet! People admire peacocks for their beautiful feathers, but the tails also serve a purpose. The Peafowl and It’s Magnificent Tail
Peafowls are glorious animals and have long been admired by humans for their beautiful and brightly colored tail feathers. Their tails do not reach their full length until the peacock is four or five years old. When this happens, the peacock will strut day after day in hopes of attracting a mate. Peafowl are actually a kind of pheasant. Some are natives of India, while others come from Sri Lanka, Myanmar (Burma), or Java. Peafowl are some of the largest flying birds around!
