The assessment used to measure student performance in Mississippi, is the Mississippi Assessment Program (MAP)
When the MAP results of 2015-16 were compared to the test results from the 2014-15 year, it was found that the percentage of students who scored Level 1 (the lowest achievement level) had dropped in both Math and ELA, while students scoring Level 5 (the advanced level) had increased.
In the school year 2014-15 Mississippi students took the PARCC assessments, and as of 2015-16 Mississippi is no longer a member of the PARCC and as developed its own assessment for its students. The PARCC and MAP assessments are comparable in rigor and difficulty.
English Language Arts:
In ELA, 11.4% of the students scored level 1, 66% of all the students tested scored level 3 or higher, and 32.6% of the overall tested students scored at level 4 or higher. 14 Districts had more than 45% of all their tested students scoring Level 4 and higher.
Math:
In Mathematics, 7.2% of all the tested students scored Level 1, 66.2% of all the tested students scored Level 3 or higher, and 31.1% of overall students scored Level 4 or higher. 15 Districts had more than 45% of all their tested students scoring Level 4 and above.
