Maine names Teacher of the Year!

Last week the Maine Department of Education named their teacher of the year. This year’s teacher of the year is Tammy Ranger, a reading interventionist for 7th and 8th grade from Skowhegan Middle School. Tammy graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington. She also received her Master’s in k-12 literacy from the University of Maine. She has been teaching for sixteen years.

Mrs. Ranger was selected from 15 other finalists that had been whittled down from 300 teachers statewide. Almost all counties were represented in the finalist pool. The teachers that were nominated went through a process of committee review, and interviews over the summer. Mrs. Ranger was presented with the top prize in a surprise ceremony at her school on October 13th, 2016.

  • Beth Heidemann (Kindergarten teacher), Cushing Community School
  • Erika Atkinson(3rd-grade Teacher), Dresden Elementary School
  • Joseph Cummings (Elementary Teacher), Oxford Hills Middle School
  • Cherrie MacInnes(3rd-grade teacher), Brewer Community School
  • Lawrence Kovacs (Middle School Teacher), Bath Middle School
  • Kristen Kelley(English 9-12), Islesboro Central School
  • Jane Andrews(Grade 4 teacher/5-8 Art), Princeton Elementary School
  • Pamela Starkey(Elementary Teacher), Marshwood Great Works School,

Congratulations to Mrs. Ranger on getting named Maine Teacher of the year for 2017! I would also like to thank Mrs. Ranger and all the nominees for their hard work and dedication to their students!
