Grade 6 Math Sample Question 10

The city of Trenton hired a crew of 100 workers to clean up the streets
of the city. The crew worked for 14 days. Each worker was paid at a
rate of $90 per day. What was the total labor cost for the city?

A) $1,260

B) $126,000 (Correct Answer)

C) $11,400

D) $9,000

Explanation:
If each of the 100 workers worked 14 days, the city had to pay for the equivalent of 1,400
days worth of work. 100 x 14 = 1,400. At a rate of $90 per day, that would amount to
$126,000. 1,400 x $90 = $126,000.
