00:09 if you're like me , you know what your perfect
00:11 day looks like weather wise , sunny , rainy ,
00:14 snowy , whatever , personally . I love it when
00:17 it's cool and cloudy , like just cold enough to
00:19 wear a sweater , you probably know that weather has
00:22 something to do with how hot or cold it is
00:24 outside , but really there's a lot more to it
00:27 than just temperature . So grab your sunglasses , your
00:29 rain boots and your most colorful scarf . Because today
00:32 we're talking whether let's start with a big and pretty
00:35 basic question , what exactly is whether , yeah ,
00:42 well , weather is the condition of the air or
00:45 the atmosphere on our planet . But the thing is
00:47 , even though there's only one atmosphere on earth ,
00:50 the weather isn't the same all over the world .
00:52 There are many different factors that can change the atmosphere
00:55 in a certain area and together they determine what the
00:58 weather is like from one minute and from one place
01:00 to the next . These factors include temperature , humidity
01:03 , wind speed and direction and lots of other things
01:06 . But when you're talking about the overall weather patterns
01:10 from a certain region of the world , you're talking
01:13 about the areas , climate weather is the minute by
01:16 minute changes in the atmosphere . Climate is what the
01:18 weather is like over a long period of time in
01:21 a specific area . Now the weather is constantly changing
01:25 all the time every day . Think of the weather
01:27 as being like that . One friend of yours who
01:29 can never make up their mind about what movie they
01:31 want to see or what restaurant they want to go
01:33 to just because it's beautiful and sunny outside when you
01:35 wake up , that doesn't mean you won't need an
01:37 umbrella before the day's over and raining is just one
01:40 of the things that weather can do reign of course
01:42 , is just a form of precipitation or water that
01:45 falls from the sky . It happens when droplets of
01:47 water in the clouds . Or sometimes ice crystals get
01:49 heavy enough in fall to the ground . If they're
01:51 crystals , the warm air near the ground will melt
01:53 them as they fall , forming liquid raindrops . But
01:57 do you wanna build a snowman ? Another common form
02:00 of precipitation is snow . Snow is just ice crystals
02:03 that don't melt into liquid water as they fall .
02:05 Another snow like form of precipitation is sleet . It's
02:08 what happens when ice crystals fall toward the ground partly
02:10 melt and then refreeze again . But other kinds of
02:13 weather can be way more severe and the most common
02:15 kind of extreme weather is a form . I'm sure
02:18 you're familiar with thunderstorms . A thunderstorm can happen when
02:22 strong winds make drops of water and pieces of ice
02:24 collide and break apart inside a storm . This causes
02:27 electrical energy to build up , which creates a little
02:30 something called lightning . But all of this rain and
02:33 snow and sleet I've been talking about , that's all
02:35 just weather . And while weather can change in a
02:38 few hours , a region's climate takes hundreds , thousands
02:41 , even millions of years to change . So how
02:44 can we better understand the difference between weather and climate
02:47 ? How about we send Cartoon Sabrina on a little
02:50 imaginary trip for a month . Mhm , mm .
02:54 Okay , here she is at her destination , Yuma
02:58 Arizona . Let's pretend it's the fifth of the month
03:01 on this particular day where cartoon Sabrina is , it's
03:03 warm , but very cloudy . And the light rain
03:05 has been falling on her . Sorry me all day
03:08 since clouds and rain are what the atmosphere has to
03:10 offer on this particular spot at this moment and they
03:13 can go away at any minute . Those conditions are
03:16 , yep . The weather now , let's fast forward
03:18 to the 10th of the month . Hello son .
03:21 Looks like tiny me won't be needing an umbrella today
03:23 . How about the 15th ? More sun the 20th
03:26 . Still sunny the 25th . You guess that sonny
03:29 with a chance of well sunny and finally on the
03:32 30th , the sun still shining little Sabrina . I
03:35 hope you packed your sunscreen . So what does this
03:37 quick time lapse of a month in Yuma ? Tell
03:39 us , it tells us that Yuma Arizona is a
03:45 pretty sunny place . In fact , on most days
03:47 it's one of the sunniest cities on the whole planet
03:50 . So the city's weather patterns existed before Mini me
03:54 arrived and will continue after she leaves . In that
03:57 case , you could say that huma has a sunny
03:58 climate , even if it's weather on a certain given
04:00 day happens to be rainy . Now , you know
04:03 that weather is much more than just temperature . It's
04:05 the condition of our planet's atmosphere and it's constantly changing
04:08 . You also know that weather and climate are not
04:11 the same thing . But I say the extreme stuff
04:14 for last , the severe weather stuff that is ,
04:16 you'll have to tune in next time to learn more
04:18 about tornadoes , hurricanes and blizzards .
