00:0-1 Good day . Welcome to Tech Mouth channel . What
00:01 we're going to be having to look at in this
00:03 video is some speed distance time calculations . This is
00:06 in response to a email , I got a guy
00:08 called Nathan . Pretty much want to know how to
00:10 do these according to this particular website here . I'm
00:13 going to put it in the link down below and
00:15 I really recommend have a bit of a click on
00:17 and put up a play with this website . It
00:18 times you is quite nasty . Um , so anyway
00:23 , Nathan , I am going to show you what
00:25 I had to look at with this . First off
00:27 , you asked That I could work out some of
00:29 my math magic . I'm just going to use math
00:31 with this mate . There is no magic whatsoever ,
00:34 but hopefully I'm going to make it a bit easier
00:35 for you . So when you click on this particular
00:38 link , what happens is it takes you to a
00:40 website with 10 questions , it looks like this .
00:43 There we go . So you get 10 questions and
00:46 at times you submit your answers and then it tells
00:48 you how many you got wrong and how fast you
00:50 did . On average each question Nathan , I'm going
00:53 to show you how I go about doing this and
00:55 for other people and how you can go about getting
00:57 a fairly good score on this . So first off
01:00 to do these , what I did is I actually
01:02 used this particular formula here . I used to speak
01:06 calculation formula which was this one time is equal to
01:09 distance over speed , Times 60/1 . Okay . And
01:15 I use this each time pretty much and I got
01:18 my answers except that they were really easy . So
01:21 let's just have a bit of a look to start
01:22 off with . First off , we're gonna have a
01:23 look at some speed calculations . What speed covers 17
01:27 miles and 17 hours . What speed covers 10 miles
01:30 in an hour ? 40 . What speed covers 70
01:32 miles an hour . What speed covers 13 miles in
01:35 15 minutes And what speed covers 17 miles in eight
01:39 hours 30 . And pretty much these are pretty easy
01:42 . Okay , once you get used to have and
01:43 do them , what speed covers 17 miles in 17
01:47 hours . So hopefully you get the answer straightaway of
01:49 one . Okay , one hour , one mile ,
01:52 two hours , two miles , three hours , three
01:54 miles 17 hours 7 , 8 mi . I'm not
01:57 gonna even put this through my paces here For the
02:00 next one . What speed covers 10 miles in an
02:02 hour ? 40 . So the trick with these is
02:04 we're going to turn our time here into a fraction
02:08 . This is one and 40 out of 60 ,
02:11 okay , one and 40 minutes out of 60 minutes
02:14 . This can be changed to one and two out
02:17 of three . We can simplify this . So what
02:19 we're gonna do over here is we're going to put
02:21 this in as an improper fraction , one times three
02:24 is three Plus two is 5 , Okay . 5/3
02:31 . And this is equal to a distance over the
02:33 speed . So what you're gonna see is we have
02:36 a speed , we're trying to work out that's down
02:38 the bottom here And we have a distance of 10
02:41 miles . So look , all we need to do
02:43 now is we have an equivalent fractions here , five
02:46 times what equals 10 times to Yeah , so three
02:51 times two will give us our answer down here three
02:53 times too . We have our answer of six MPH
02:57 and that's how easy it is . Finicum . Alright
03:00 , uh let's go through the next question here .
03:05 Okay , what speed covers ? 17 miles in one
03:08 hour , Okay , how fast would you be going
03:10 in one hour to go ? 70 miles in one
03:12 hour ? You have to go 70 miles an hour
03:15 . That's a pretty easy question . Ah let's just
03:17 go the next one . What speed covers 30 miles
03:20 in 15 minutes . So let's have a look at
03:22 15 minutes here . What is that ? As a
03:24 fraction ? It's 15 out of 60 . have 15
03:27 minutes after 60 minutes , which is a quarter .
03:29 So a quarter is equal to 13 miles Over the
03:35 distance that we're trying to work out . Okay ?
03:37 So how do we go from 1 to 13 times
03:40 by 13 ? Yeah , So four times 13 we're
03:43 going to have our answer . What's four times 30
03:46 ? The answer is 52 . All right , let's
03:50 go through the next question here . Okay . The
03:54 last one of the speed questions , what speed covers
03:56 70 miles in eight hours and 30 minutes , so
04:00 eight hours , 30 minutes . This is 8.5 hours
04:04 as an improper fraction . This is 17 over to
04:08 this is equal to the distance over the speed .
04:10 The distance is 70 miles and the speed is what
04:14 we're trying to work out . So 17 to 17
04:17 , they were just times 11 So two times one
04:20 . Our answer is to hey all right , not
04:26 so bad . Right , Let's have a look at
04:29 the next type of questions . These are these ones
04:32 . Okay ? How long time questions time ? We
04:35 have a time question and a time questions . So
04:38 let's have a look at these . We're going to
04:39 use this same idea . Time is distance over speed
04:42 occasionally . We'll be checking in this time 60/1 ,
04:45 that's where we need to work out the minutes .
04:47 Okay ? So time is distance over speed . A
04:50 10 mi . Pereira . How long does it take
04:52 to travel ? 15 miles . Now , I can
04:54 tell you straight away , that is gonna take an
04:56 hour . 31st hour . You do 10 miles the
05:00 second half an hour . That second half . Now
05:02 you can do five miles , so that's 30 minutes
05:04 , but let's chuck this in here . Ok ?
05:06 The distance is 10 . Actually the distance is 15
05:11 , the speed is 10 and this is equal to
05:13 1.5 hours .5 hours .5 times 60 is 30 minutes
05:21 . Okay , let's have a look at the next
05:24 question here , at 30 MPH . How long does
05:27 it take to travel ? Eight miles ? So we're
05:30 going eight miles . This is 30 mph . Now
05:34 you're gonna see this straight away , we're going to
05:36 end up with a bit of a fraction here Because
05:38 we're not going to be even the full hour .
05:40 I'm gonna time just by 60/1 just to work out
05:43 what the minutes are and it's going to make life
05:45 easier because we can cancel it numbers here . Okay
05:48 , 30 goes into 30 once and 30 goes into
05:51 60 twice , so eight times two , we get
05:54 our answer at 16 minutes . Okay , let's have
05:59 a look at This question . 36 mph , 18
06:04 miles distance is 18 , Yeah , Speed is 36
06:10 , 18 divided by 36 . It's half it's half
06:13 an hour . Half an hour is 30 minutes .
06:18 All right , Okay , so that's how you do
06:20 those particular questions . Let's have a look now at
06:23 the last lot of questions that we have left ,
06:25 we have at 40 mph , how far you travel
06:27 in nine minutes , uh at 15 mph , how
06:30 far you travel in 44 minutes . Let's go sort
06:33 these out . We're gonna use this same formula again
06:35 . Okay So uh we have nine minutes here .
06:39 Nine minutes is nine out of 60 . Okay .
06:43 Nine out of 60 . We can simplify this a
06:46 little bit further , we can divide three into both
06:48 of these . So we get three out of 20
06:51 . Alright , three out of 20 is equal to
06:55 Okay the distance divided by the speed . So we
06:58 have the distance which we're trying to work out .
07:00 And the speed which is 40 , Okay from 20
07:04 to 40 . We're gonna times by two . Yeah
07:07 . So we're gonna do the same up here three
07:09 times two . Arrieta is six . Okay , lucky
07:14 . Last question . I'll tell you what after this
07:16 , I will go through another set of these just
07:19 to make sure we're all good with it . Okay
07:22 , so we can do that next . All right
07:25 , last question , what have we got ? We
07:28 have at 15 MPH . How far you travel in
07:30 44 minutes . Turned this year into a fraction .
07:35 44 out of 60 . What number goes into ?
07:37 Both of these ? Four goes into both . Four
07:39 goes into this 11 and it goes into 60-15 times
07:43 . We have 11 out of 15 , which is
07:46 equal to the distance that we're trying to work out
07:49 over the speed , which is 15 . How do
07:52 you go from 15 to 15 ? Well , here
07:54 times by 1 , 11 times one , we've got
07:57 a final answer for these questions and that there would
08:00 be 11 . All right , so there you go
08:04 . That's how I went about doing these . Hopefully
08:07 I haven't got a whole bunch of them wrong .
08:08 Actually be kind of awkward . If I do what
08:11 I tell you what , I'll go through the next
08:13 lot of these questions and we'll see okay , I
08:17 use exactly this every time . All right , let's
08:20 have a look . Okay , second lot of questions
08:22 This time I am not going to separate them into
08:24 types of questions . I'm just going to start answering
08:26 it at 15 MPH . How long does it take
08:29 to travel ? 30 miles ? So this is a
08:31 time question . Time is equal to distance over speed
08:36 Bead . Okay , so we have a distance of
08:38 30 . We have speed of 15 . This is
08:42 equal to two , but there's no surprise there either
08:45 . That's two hours . That is alright . That's
08:48 why not hope you about an answer without actually using
08:51 the formula . Ok . 15 miles . Okay ,
08:53 That's one hour , two hours . 30 miles .
08:57 Three hours 45 miles so and so forth At 20
09:00 mph . How far do you travel ? In two
09:02 hours and 24 ? So , we're gonna turn this
09:04 into a fraction . This is two hours and 24
09:08 . 24 12 goes into that as well . As
09:10 it goes into 60 12 , goes into 20 for
09:13 two times and it goes into 65 times . So
09:16 we're going to turn this into an improper fraction .
09:18 Two times five is 10 plus two is 12 .
09:22 12/5 is equal to the distance over the speed .
09:26 So the distance is what we're trying to work out
09:29 . And the speed is 20 To go from 5
09:33 to 20 few times by four . So 12 times
09:36 four , we get our answer 12 times four .
09:39 It's 48 . All right . This is real seat
09:44 of my pants stuff at the moment . Maybe I
09:46 don't get any wrong . Um , There you go
09:48 . I'm sure I'll get a couple wrong there and
09:50 there will be anger . Okay , so 12 MPH
09:52 . How long does it take to go ? 26
09:55 miles . Well this is a time one straight away
09:57 . Uh This is distance divided by speed . 26
10:02 Divided by the speed . Which is 12 . If
10:05 you do that , you go 12 26 divided by
10:07 12 . You are going to get this answer of
10:09 two and what ? Uh to over 12 . So
10:16 to over 12 is two and 1/6 . So what's
10:19 1/6 of 60 minutes or 16 times 60 minutes ?
10:24 Okay . It's 10 minutes . Okay , we're two
10:25 hours and 10 minutes . Alright . Um Let's have
10:31 a look at the next question . A 10 mph
10:36 . How far do you travel in eight hours to
10:39 10 miles an hour ? Eight hours ? Look one
10:42 hour . Um 10 miles . Two hours and 20
10:44 miles . Three hours . 30 miles times eight .
10:48 You're gonna go 80 miles . That's a nice easy
10:50 one at five MPH . How far do you travel
10:53 in three hours and 24 minutes to turn this one
10:55 into a fraction . This is three and once again
10:59 , 12 goes into this 12 times and 12 goes
11:03 into 65 times . Let's put the improper fraction over
11:05 here . Three times five is 15 plus two is
11:08 17/5 , which is equal to how far we're going
11:14 . That's a distance Over the speed of five .
11:17 So from 5-5 . Well , we just got time
11:20 for one . So 17 times one . Look at
11:23 an answer of 17 . All right . Uh were
11:28 booming along through these . Hopefully quite nicely . Alright
11:31 , what speed covers three miles in three hours ?
11:34 Hey , this is gonna be 1 11 MPH .
11:37 How far do you travel in one hour ? That
11:39 would be 11 miles that you would go at 10
11:43 MPH . How far do you travel ? In seven
11:44 hours and 48 minutes . Okay . So pretty simple
11:48 . Uh So in that first seven hours , 10
11:51 MPH , you're gonna travel 70 communist per hour .
11:53 But what do you do for the extra 48 ?
11:55 Okay , So 48 . Well this is 4/5 okay
11:59 , because 12 goes into 48 Four times , then
12:04 there's 60 minutes goes in five times . So 4/5
12:08 , That's our time , which is equal to the
12:11 distance over the speed . We have a distance ,
12:14 we're trying to work out the speed which is 10
12:16 , so we're times in by to write five times
12:19 . Two equals 10 . 4 times too . Well
12:21 , that's the second part , that's eight . It's
12:24 going to get added to our seven year . This
12:26 is 78 km . Alright , We're almost done .
12:32 What we got for our last questions here , we
12:35 have what speed covers 15 mph and 40 so hour
12:39 and 40 . This is gonna be one and 23
12:43 Okay , one and two thirds . This is gonna
12:46 be 5/3 , improper fraction . What speed to the
12:51 speeds are one on the bottom ? Uh This is
12:56 equal to 15 miles , Okay , so times three
13:01 three times 3 your answer is known . Okay ,
13:07 last question , hopefully I won't embarrass myself by getting
13:11 at least nine of them wrong so far at four
13:14 MPH , how long does it take to travel ?
13:16 13 miles . Okay , nice , easy one .
13:18 How long ? This is 13 distance over four ,
13:22 so it's going to take three hours , It's going
13:25 to take three hours and one left over so three
13:27 and a quarter hours . This is three hours and
13:29 quarter of an hour is 15 minutes , submit my
13:32 answer , we'll see how many we got right ,
13:34 I can't do that actually . I can't write and
13:36 do that at the same time . So unfortunately ,
13:40 anyway , hopefully this was of some help to you
13:43 Nathan . Okay . Uh , for you guys ,
13:45 I really , really hope you get on this website
13:48 and give it a bit of a fly . See
13:50 how fast you can do things . Okay . I
13:53 think I was getting him down to about 15 seconds
13:55 when I was doing them per question , but I
13:57 reckon you guys could probably do a bit better .
13:58 I tell you what , I'll post my best time
14:00 up . Uh , and if you like this video
14:02 , please remember to like and subscribe to the tech
14:04 math channel and if you want to be a really
14:06 good way to old tech Matthew , please remember you
14:09 can become a patron won't cost you too much and
14:12 you'll be helping out well , people like Nathan .
14:16 Okay . Anyway , hopefully we'll see you next time
14:20 . Bye .
