00:00 this video is about percentages . Okay . Well what
00:04 is the percentage Percentage is a way of writing a
00:07 number as a fraction of 100 . Okay . And
00:10 we'll see that little bit in the word percentage sent
00:13 . I mean this thing always means 100 . Such
00:15 as in a century or sense , within a dollar
00:18 . Okay . An example of this say is 50%
00:22 . So what does 50% actually mean more ? 50
00:25 Doans quite literally 50 out of 100 . So you
00:29 can write this as 50 over 100 50 over 100
00:33 . Can then be further simplified to be one half
00:37 . Okay . You probably knew that already . So
00:39 you might work out very quickly that percentages and fractions
00:42 have a very intimate relationship with one another . Anyway
00:46 , let's have a look at an example of this
00:48 . first off . The first example we look at
00:50 is 75%, , 75% . Has a fraction Equals 75/100
00:57 . This can be further simplified as you're probably aware
01:00 , By dividing both the top and the bottom number
01:02 of that fraction of 75 over 125 , 75 divided
01:06 by 25 is three . 100 divided by 25 is
01:09 four , so 75% is the same as three quarters
01:14 . Another example , let's say 60%, , 60% .
01:18 Therefore as a fraction is 60 over 100 . This
01:22 can be simplified a little bit further by dividing by
01:25 10 60 , divided by 10 and 600 divided by
01:29 10 is 10 . So this gives you 6/10 .
01:32 This can actually then be further simplified by dividing by
01:35 two , Six divided by two or 3 . 10
01:38 divided by two is 5 . So 60% is the
01:41 same as writing 6/10 . 3/5 6 over 100 .
01:45 Okay , these are all exactly the same amount .
01:49 So we're going to explore this relationship between fractions percentages
01:51 and decimals . We'll start out by looking at a
01:54 quarter . One quarter quite literally means one divided by
01:58 four and one divided by four of your work it
02:00 out is 40.25 So what you probably realize here is
02:04 the fraction of quarter Equals the same as the decimal
02:07 which is .25 . To change this decimal into a
02:11 percentage just times by a 100 8.25 times 100 We'll
02:16 give you 25% . Okay , so this is a
02:19 relationship between fractions a quarter decimals 0.25 and percentages 25%
02:25 . They all mean exactly the same thing . They're
02:27 all exactly the same amount . It's a slightly different
02:30 way of writing it . So in order to change
02:33 between these guys would just run through this a few
02:35 more times . So we got that fraction a quarter
02:38 which we have before we went one divided by four
02:40 which gave us a decimal 5.25.25 times by 100 which
02:44 gave us the percent of 25% . And then what
02:48 we did is change this percentage into a fraction .
02:51 We can put this 25 over 100 . This can
02:53 be simplified 25 divided by 25 gives you 100 divided
02:58 by 25 ft before . So 25% fraction is one
03:02 quarter . Okay , just run through this one more
03:06 time . So let's have a look quickly at four
03:10 fits 4 fits quite literally means four divided by five
03:15 . So four divided by five is this 50.8 .
03:17 So 0.8 as a decimal , You want to change
03:20 this decimal 2% . Your times by 100.8 times .
03:23 100 Gives you 80 80% . Finally to work out
03:27 at the Centers a fraction you just put the over
03:29 100 over 100 Can be simplified by dividing the top
03:35 of the bottom by 20 , divided by 20 is
03:37 400 , divided by 25 . So this quite literally
03:41 becomes four fits anyway . Good luck with all that
03:44 . But .
