00:0-1 | Good and welcome to the Tech Math channel . In
00:02 | this video , we're going to be having a look
00:03 | at a few little tricks on how to do the
00:05 | nine times Table . This is our a few little
00:07 | tricks mainly inspired because I've been teaching my own little
00:10 | kids at home how to do the nine times table
00:13 | and they've been finding it to be the easiest of
00:16 | all the times tables . I used to also was
00:18 | when I was a kid , mainly because of these
00:20 | two couple of tricks , which I , one of
00:22 | which I was shown when I was a kid ,
00:24 | another one , which I actually worked out by myself
00:26 | , which was a pretty obvious one as well ,
00:28 | but maybe you haven't seen it . So anyway ,
00:30 | I'm going to show you both these today . Number
00:32 | one of them is using your hands to actually work
00:35 | out the times table . Another one if you don't
00:37 | want to be sitting there counting your hands , is
00:39 | one where you can actually look at the number of
00:40 | times you by nine and immediately pretty much work out
00:43 | the answer off that . So I'm going to go
00:46 | through both of these are examples in this video .
00:48 | So the first one is going to be the hands
00:50 | one and that's , here's some hands I prepared earlier
00:53 | . I'm not going to show my own hands .
00:54 | My own hands are a little bit not really the
00:56 | prettiest things that you ever want to see . But
00:59 | these hands I've drawn here , basically I got my
01:03 | left hand and my right hand and also have the
01:06 | thumbs on either side . So the palms are facing
01:09 | towards me . Um And we number these 123456789 10
01:15 | . You don't have to draw the numbers on your
01:16 | fingers by the way , but you might have that
01:18 | helps you . Uh So anyway , how do we
01:21 | use this ? Well , so you're going to do
01:23 | a question like three times 9 . Well let's kid
01:27 | for the third finger . Okay . Three times nine
01:29 | . So we can't do the third finger . 123
01:32 | this finger here and would fold this finger over .
01:35 | Okay . And then we look to the left and
01:37 | then we look to the right of this and we
01:39 | get our answer through this . So on the left
01:42 | we have two fingers . And on the right of
01:47 | our fold over finger we have 123-4567 fingers . Okay
01:53 | there's our answer 27 . That's how this works .
01:56 | It's not a it's a very very easy way of
01:58 | working things out . Okay I'll go to a different
02:01 | example . Uh I'll just get rid of that .
02:04 | Um And let's do the example . Now I'll do
02:07 | a bit of a bigger number seven times 97 times
02:11 | 99 times seven same thing . Okay so we fold
02:16 | his finger over And then we count the number of
02:18 | fingers on this side which is six 123456 . And
02:23 | the numbers on this side Of the fold over finger
02:26 | three The answer is 63 . And that's the way
02:30 | you can use your hands to work out the nine
02:32 | times table . It works for all of them right
02:34 | up to our even possibly if you were to say
02:36 | um What's 10 times nine and you can look at
02:39 | it and then what you could do is you could
02:41 | say well you can fold this thumb down I guess
02:45 | and then you can say on this side I have
02:47 | nine fingers and I have no fingers on this side
02:50 | . So the answer is 90 . So that's the
02:51 | way it works and if you even have extra fingers
02:54 | I actually that will just confuse you . So we
02:56 | won't , we won't do that . Um what we'll
02:58 | have a look at now is a different way that
02:59 | you can also do the nine times table . This
03:01 | is the way that I used to generally do it
03:02 | as a kid and this is where you are ,
03:06 | you use the number and to immediately can work it
03:08 | out . So I'll get rid of the hands I've
03:09 | drawn and I'll show you how I used to work
03:13 | this out as a kid . I'll give you actually
03:15 | start this out by writing out a few of the
03:17 | times table . So we have one times nine equals
03:21 | 92 times nine equals 18 , three times nine equals
03:28 | 27 four times nine Equals 36 . Okay , I'm
03:36 | not gonna fit too many mornings , so I won't
03:38 | try . I'll just move these there and the way
03:42 | this works is this I used to look when I
03:44 | was a kid , I used to look at this
03:45 | number . The first thing I used to realize ,
03:47 | so used to realize that all the answers to the
03:49 | nine times table added up to nine . So nine
03:52 | is nine , but one plus eight is also 92
03:54 | plus seven also equals 93 plus six or so equals
03:57 | nine . And the same goes next numbers 45 that
04:00 | equals nine . In fact , any number of times
04:01 | by nine . Finally enough , you'll find that the
04:03 | answer is actually add up to nine or add up
04:06 | to a number that nine goes into . And this
04:08 | even includes really , really big numbers . Okay .
04:12 | But first thing I noticed was that , but the
04:13 | second thing I noticed was it . So say we
04:16 | have a three here . The way I used to
04:18 | do this as a , as a kid as I
04:19 | used to look at this and say , well three
04:21 | times nine , number under three is a two .
04:24 | Okay , so the first part of my answer is
04:26 | going to be a two and I used to think
04:27 | to myself or because all the answers that your time
04:29 | is 19 add up to nine , what number would
04:31 | I add to to to get nine ? Two plus
04:35 | seven is nine . So the answer is 27 .
04:38 | Okay , so this one here , the number 4
04:41 | , 4 is 33 plus six equals nine . Our
04:46 | answer is nine . Okay , I'll give you another
04:49 | one here . I'm just gonna find my eraser ,
04:53 | losing the all the things on my screen at the
04:56 | moment . Here we go . Just get rid of
04:58 | those and I'll write a different one down . All
05:02 | right . Say something down like what about eight Times
05:06 | 9 ? So we look at the eight there .
05:10 | Next up their number under eight is seven . Seven
05:15 | plus two Equals nine . The answer is 72 .
05:19 | Okay . And that works all the way right up
05:21 | to uh I guess 10 times nine where you can
05:24 | think of that . You know that you can think
05:26 | well 10 times nine and you could say the number
05:29 | under 10 is nine and nine plus nothing equals equals
05:35 | 90 . Okay . There's a nine plus , nothing
05:37 | is nine . So the answer is 90 . And
05:39 | that's the way I've always found that nine times they
05:41 | would have been really , really easy earn a link
05:43 | onto this . Also a way of actually doing the
05:45 | nine times table like any , not nine times they
05:48 | were divided by nine instantly . This is where you
05:51 | can actually divide really , really big numbers quite quickly
05:55 | . Using just a little trick . I have .
05:57 | Okay . I hope you found that helpful . Okay
06:00 | . See you later . Bye . |
