00:01 | Good day . Welcome to the Tech Math channel .
00:03 | What we're going to be having a look at in
00:04 | this video is a way of squaring any two digit
00:07 | number . That is a way of multiplying any two
00:10 | digit number by itself fairly instantly . Okay , so
00:14 | sit back and enjoy , Yeah , I'll give you
00:17 | an example to start off . So how fast can
00:19 | you do ? 32 squared ? I'll give you five
00:23 | seconds . Okay . Time's pretty much up . Okay
00:29 | , hopeful . The answer that you get is 1,024
00:33 | and if you did , if you got that ,
00:35 | that's pretty cool . Right . That's that's pretty impressive
00:37 | . Congratulations . That's correct . If you didn't ,
00:40 | don't worry , I'm going to show you a way
00:41 | of working this out . Okay ? So sit back
00:45 | and you'll pick this up pretty quickly . Now ,
00:47 | a couple of steps involved in doing this . The
00:49 | first one , what we do is we find the
00:51 | distance . Well , look at this number here ,
00:53 | the number being squared obviously . And we before the
00:58 | distance between this number and the nearest tens number .
01:02 | Okay , so the nearest tens number 2 32 is
01:05 | 30 . So the distance between 32 and 30 is
01:08 | too okay . Yeah , that's the first step .
01:11 | This is something you can do usually do pretty quickly
01:13 | . Okay , now we use this to for pretty
01:16 | much every step that we're going to be going on
01:17 | with now . Okay , the first thing we do
01:19 | is we take this to away from 32 To get
01:23 | 30 and we add this to to 32 to get
01:25 | 34 . This is all stuff you can do in
01:28 | your head pretty quickly . Okay ? We're going to
01:31 | get these numbers and multiply them . This is the
01:34 | biggest step . Okay , so this is the same
01:37 | as sort of like three times 34 with an extra
01:39 | zero on top . So we're gonna be going 30
01:42 | times 30 which is 904 times 30 which is 1
01:46 | 20 so 1000 and 20 . Okay , So we
01:53 | multiply this that we get 1020 . And the very
01:56 | last thing we do is we just add the square
01:58 | of this number is no , this difference number two
02:01 | . Our answer . So two squared is four .
02:04 | We're gonna add these together . And if we do
02:06 | we get our answer here , 1,024 . Okay .
02:10 | So I'll just go through the steps again . We
02:11 | find the distance between this number and the nearest tens
02:15 | number , the number being squared , which is to
02:17 | we take this number away from the number being square
02:19 | we added to the number being squared , so 30
02:22 | times 34 and then we add this that was squared
02:27 | to our result . Okay , It's not too bad
02:29 | . Okay , give it a few guys and you
02:32 | will get really really quick at doing this . Obviously
02:34 | some are going to be a little bit harder than
02:36 | others but it works for all numbers . There are
02:39 | two digits . So what about I'd give a few
02:41 | examples here . Oh go just a little bit uh
02:44 | go a little bit harder now . What about we
02:46 | do 33 squared . So what about you pause this
02:52 | and work through this ? Or you work through this
02:54 | with me ? And then you pause if you later
02:56 | ones . So the first step we're gonna do is
02:59 | the distance between this and the nearest tens . Number
03:02 | 10 . Number 30 . So the difference is three
03:05 | We take it away we add it to okay so
03:08 | we take this away from 33 , we get 30
03:11 | , We add this to 33 and we get the
03:14 | answer of 36 . Next step Here we multiply these
03:18 | so 30 times 36 . This is pretty much the
03:21 | same as 900 plus 180 . So 1080 . Okay
03:29 | . 30 times 30 906 times 30 uh 18 .
03:33 | So we're going to add that on which was 1
03:35 | 80 . Okay . The last step is we add
03:41 | This number square to it . So three threes and
03:44 | I . So what's the answer ? 1000 and I
03:49 | . T . Knowing . Hey not too bad .
03:52 | Right , this is obviously the hardest step just here
03:55 | . So that's something you'll have to get used to
03:57 | look . I do have a video where I look
03:59 | at how to multiply these out fairly quickly these answers
04:03 | . So what about I do a bit of a
04:05 | harder one will do 68 squared . And look I
04:12 | reckon a few people may get a tiny bit of
04:14 | confusion here because they might even start looking at the
04:16 | nearest tens . They were being 60 . No ,
04:17 | no it's not . But they may the nearest tens
04:20 | number here is 70 . So we're only two away
04:23 | from that . Okay , so again , we do
04:26 | the same process . 68 take away two is 66
04:30 | 68 plus two is 70 . So we're going to
04:33 | multiply these . This is fairly easy . Right ?
04:35 | Because this is going to be all right . This
04:37 | is going to be Basically 420 plus 42 with a
04:41 | zero on the end . Okay ? So if I
04:43 | was to do this , what I'd end up getting
04:46 | is the answer of 462 . Okay . 462 With
04:53 | a zero on the end . OK . So 4620
04:58 | . Okay . We multiply these out . The last
05:01 | thing we have to do is at this number square
05:03 | to a result . So two times 2 is four
05:06 | and answer 4620 . Okay . Pretty easy . Right
05:14 | again the way I did that was seven . Sixes
05:16 | are 42 so 420 plus 42 because it's 66 .
05:21 | Okay so we get 462 but with a zero on
05:25 | the end . Okay . What about one last example
05:30 | ? Hopefully doing pretty well with these and definitely write
05:33 | up your own examples and check to see that it
05:35 | works so 77 squared . Can I ? We've got
05:42 | a few lines there . Someone commented that they really
05:45 | like it . People do that . Don't worry .
05:46 | That's probably the only time I'll do it . Um
05:50 | Yeah . Mhm . How do we do this now
05:53 | ? So we look for the nearest tens number .
05:55 | Okay . In the nearest 10 numbers 80 where ?
05:57 | Three ? Away okay so we take this away from
06:01 | 77 We've got 74 and if we add this to
06:06 | 77 we have Heidi . So let's multiply these numbers
06:11 | out . Okay . If we do this 78 to
06:13 | 56 48 to 32 so pretty much we're going to
06:17 | get 560 plus 32 . So that's going to be
06:20 | +592 where they happy little zero on the end because
06:26 | of this . Okay , now what we're gonna do
06:28 | this just add three squared . So three squared is
06:31 | nine , answer 5929 . Anyway , how'd you go
06:39 | with those ? Hopefully you find that really , really
06:41 | great little trick . I think it's a really ,
06:43 | really awesome little trick , that one . Um Anyway
06:47 | , let me know , sending comments and a question
06:49 | , anything like that and I'll speak to you next
06:52 | time I see you then . Bye . |
