00:0-1 | Good day . Welcome to Tech Math Channel . What
00:02 | we're gonna be having a look at in today's video
00:03 | is a great little trick for multiplying 23 digit numbers
00:06 | together , but that's not all . I'm going to
00:08 | expand this out and show you how to multiply any
00:11 | two numbers together . Okay . It's a great little
00:13 | trick . Uh , this one is not gonna be
00:16 | faster to calculator . I'm sorry , but it's still
00:18 | much , much faster than probably the traditional method that
00:21 | you have been taught anyway . If you like this
00:23 | video , please remember to hit the like button and
00:25 | subscribe and a big shout out to my patrons .
00:28 | Always . Thank you . Always . Thank you .
00:30 | Always . Thank you . So anyway , that much
00:32 | further ado , let's launch into a question you ,
00:35 | why don't you grab a pen and paper and see
00:36 | if you can go faster than me ? Okay ,
00:39 | so let's have a look at this first example ,
00:40 | 213 Multiplied by 323 . Go . All right ,
00:47 | so we have three times three is nine . We
00:50 | have three plus six is nine . We have six
00:53 | plus two plus nine . Is 17 . Gonna put
00:56 | the seven there carry the one we have four plus
00:58 | three is seven plus that one there is an eight
01:01 | and three times two is six . Did you get
01:03 | the answer of 68,799 And more importantly , did you
01:08 | do it faster than me ? Well , I'll tell
01:10 | you what , I'm gonna show you how to do
01:11 | this particular question . Okay . And I look this
01:15 | is really , really easy then to actually expand that
01:17 | further . And what's more is we don't have a
01:18 | huge amount of working out there . Okay ? So
01:21 | let's have a look at how it worked this out
01:23 | . This particular method . Okay . So first off
01:26 | what I did , is he gonna see here ?
01:28 | We've got six numbers . Okay , I'm just going
01:30 | to represent them here . Six dots . Okay .
01:32 | And I'll show you what we're multiplying as we go
01:34 | along . The first ones were multiplying is to get
01:36 | our units , we have a unit here in a
01:38 | unit here we're multiplying these two numbers and that gives
01:41 | us our units answer . So three times three is
01:44 | knowing for the next part of our answer for the
01:47 | tens part where we have a tens times of units
01:50 | and units time to tens . These are the ways
01:52 | we can get tens . So we have one times
01:54 | three which is three and three times two which is
01:56 | six . And we're gonna add those together . So
01:58 | three plus six is knowing . And that gives us
02:02 | here tens part of our answer for our hundreds part
02:05 | of our answer . We're going to be multiplying these
02:07 | numbers . This one by this one this one by
02:09 | this one . This one by this one . This
02:11 | is 100 times units which gives us a hundreds tens
02:14 | times tens , which also gives us a hundreds answer
02:16 | and units times hundreds , which also gives us a
02:19 | hundreds answers . And we're going to add our answers
02:21 | together . So two times 3 is six . Okay
02:25 | ? I'll write that down there . One times two
02:27 | is two and three times three is nine . And
02:30 | we're gonna add these together . Six plus two is
02:32 | eight plus nine is 17 . We're gonna put the
02:35 | seven here and we're going to carry this one across
02:38 | like you would with regular multiplication . All right ,
02:41 | for thousands . Parts of Ariane to We're gonna see
02:44 | here we're gonna be multiplying these ones . Okay ?
02:47 | We have hundreds times tens and tens times hundreds .
02:51 | Both of these , giving us thousands answers . So
02:53 | two times two is four and one times three is
02:56 | three plus this one here . So four plus three
02:59 | is seven plus one is eight . And you guessed
03:03 | it for the last part of your answer for the
03:05 | tens of thousands were gonna be multiplying the hundreds by
03:08 | the hundreds . Okay . So two times 3 is
03:12 | six And there's our answer 68,799 . And you'll probably
03:18 | notice that pattern there . The patterns are really ,
03:19 | really important one to get . Okay , you're gonna
03:22 | see . First off we multiply these , then we
03:24 | multiply these ones and add them together . We multiply
03:26 | these ones and added them together these ones and then
03:29 | add them together and then these ones . So what
03:31 | about , I'll give you an example for you to
03:33 | try and then what we'll do is we'll go through
03:36 | and have a look how to do these for different
03:39 | types of questions that aren't three digit numbers . Okay
03:41 | . And if you like this method by the way
03:43 | , please remember like and subscribe . So what about
03:46 | we have a look at another question . Okay .
03:48 | What about we look at 324 Times 513 . What
03:55 | about you give this a go . So the first
03:57 | one you're gonna be multiplying ? Uh These two are
03:59 | the units . Okay ? Four times three Is 12
04:02 | . So I'm going to put the two down and
04:04 | carry the one . The next one we're gonna multiply
04:06 | it is to buy the three and the four by
04:08 | the 1 to 2 times three is six . Four
04:11 | times one has 46 plus four plus this one here
04:14 | , six plus four is 10 plus this one is
04:17 | 11 . So we're gonna put that one here and
04:19 | carry the one over . The next ones . We're
04:21 | gonna be multiplying is a three x 3 . The
04:25 | two times one and the four times five . Okay
04:28 | , three times three is 92 times one is two
04:32 | . Four times five is 20 . We're going to
04:34 | add these altogether . So nine plus two is 11
04:37 | plus 20 is 31 plus this one down here is
04:41 | 32 . So let's put the R . Two down
04:43 | here and carry the three for the thousands parts of
04:46 | our answer . We have two times five which is
04:48 | 10 and we have three times one , which is
04:51 | three easy . 10 plus three is 13 plus is
04:55 | three here is going to give us 16 . So
04:57 | , I'm gonna put the six here And carry that
04:59 | one . Finally we have three times five which is
05:03 | 15 plus this one here , which is 16 .
05:05 | So , we put that whole thing down . We
05:07 | have 166,212 . What a cool trick . Right .
05:12 | Really , really simple . All right , now you
05:14 | got that under your belt . What about I show
05:16 | you the adaptions that you can make on this trick
05:18 | . So you can use it for any number .
05:20 | So first I'm going to show you just how to
05:22 | multiply things like a two by two number , A
05:25 | three by three number . And you'll see how you
05:27 | can extend this out for a four by four .
05:29 | Number of five by five , that sort of thing
05:31 | . And then I'm gonna show you how you can
05:32 | multiply things where it's not the same . So it's
05:34 | like a two digit number by three digit number or
05:37 | something like that . And how you might then go
05:39 | about doing those and it's not a huge difference .
05:41 | So first off , let me just put up the
05:43 | pattern that you would use . Okay , so so
05:46 | we have a two digit by two digit number to
05:48 | get the units . What we're doing is we're multiplying
05:50 | the two units numbers Then to get the 10s numbers
05:53 | were multiplying the units by the 10s and 10s by
05:56 | the units . Then to get the hundreds number ,
05:59 | we're going the tens by the tens number . And
06:01 | that's how we go about systematically working at our answer
06:04 | for the three digit number . To get a units
06:06 | would start over here we go . The units by
06:08 | the units to get the tens would go attends by
06:11 | the units and the units by the tens . To
06:14 | get the hundreds number would go hundreds by the units
06:16 | , tens by the tens , units by the hundreds
06:19 | . To get the thousands , we'd go tens by
06:22 | the hundreds and hundreds by the tens . And to
06:24 | get the tens of thousands would multiply the hundreds by
06:28 | the hundreds . And you can see this pattern here
06:29 | and you can see how you can extend this out
06:31 | to a four digit or a five digit set ,
06:33 | Things like this . Okay . So what about if
06:36 | we have a two digit by a three digit number
06:37 | and I'll show you with an example . Okay ?
06:39 | So so we multiply 23 times 341 . How would
06:47 | I go about doing this ? All right , little
06:50 | trick . And as soon as I do this one
06:52 | little thing , you're going okay ? And I'll show
06:55 | you what it is . I'll put a zero here
06:56 | . Alright , we're just gonna three digit by a
06:58 | three digit number now . Okay , One times three
07:01 | or 3 times one is 3 . We have two
07:04 | times one which is two and we have three times
07:07 | four which is 12 to plus 12 is 14 .
07:09 | So I put the four down , carry that little
07:11 | one . We have zero times one . Nothing like
07:14 | a +02483 times three is nine . So eight plus
07:20 | nine and 17 plus that one there is 18 .
07:23 | So I put the eight there carry the one .
07:25 | Zero times four is 02 times three is six plus
07:30 | one is seven and zero times three . Well that's
07:34 | zero . So answer is 7843 . Anyway , that's
07:39 | all there is for this trick . It's a really
07:41 | simple little way of multiplying . It's a lot faster
07:44 | than the way you've been taught to . Did you
07:47 | like it ? If so please like and comment .
07:49 | I did try to go through by the way and
07:50 | actually explain what was happening at the same time .
07:52 | I just thought I'd run and show you a trick
07:54 | and saying this is it . You know , we
07:56 | actually are taking care of all the tens in the
07:58 | units and that sort of deal that you do with
07:59 | other multiplication . It's just a more expedient way of
08:02 | doing it . Uh , once again , thanks to
08:04 | my patrons , the next video , we're actually having
08:07 | a look at a Patreon requests , so I'm looking
08:09 | forward to that anyway . Thank you for watching .
08:12 | We'll see you next time . Bye . |
