00:15 That's right . The state of North Dakota here is
00:21 a United States map . We want to locate where
00:25 North Dakota is on the United States map . Do
00:29 you already know where North Dakota is ? Where is
00:34 North Dakota ? Yeah , North Dakota is up here
00:41 on the United States map . North Dakota is in
00:44 a region of the United States called the midwest .
00:49 Hey , now that we know where north Dakota is
00:55 , let's look at a couple of nicknames of the
00:57 state of north Dakota . That will give us a
01:00 better idea of what the state is like . The
01:05 first nickname of north Dakota that we're gonna learn today
01:09 is the Peace Garden State . Yeah . Another name
01:12 for north Dakota is the Peace Garden State . That's
01:18 a nice name , But why is North Dakota called
01:21 the Peace Garden State ? Well , there's a place
01:26 in North Dakota called the International Peace Garden . Part
01:31 of it is in North Dakota . And interestingly enough
01:34 , the other part is in the country of Canada
01:38 . That's why it's called the International Peace Garden .
01:40 It's a garden that's in two countries , the United
01:43 States of America and Canada . They set up this
01:49 incredible garden back in 1932 as a symbol of the
01:54 incredible relationship between the United States and Canada . Mhm
02:01 . It's a huge place with tons of flowers .
02:04 In fact , there are over 150,000 flowers planted in
02:09 the International Peace Garden every year . So North Dakota
02:16 is called the Peace Garden State because the International Peace
02:19 Garden is in North Dakota . Not awesome . Mhm
02:25 . Now north Dakota is also called the flicker tail
02:29 state . Now , why is it called the flicker
02:32 tail stay ? Huh , wow . Yeah . Well
02:36 , North Dakota has a lot of these . This
02:39 is a Richardson ground squirrel . Now , Richardson's ground
02:45 squirrels are known for flickering their tails when they run
02:48 around . They can't help . But that's just something
02:51 that they do . In fact , a nickname of
02:54 the Richardson's ground squirrel is the flicker tail . If
02:57 you see a Richardson's ground squirrel , you can say
02:59 , hey , there's , there's a flicker tail because
03:01 that's just what happens with these incredible squirrels . So
03:07 north Dakota is called the Peace Garden State and it's
03:10 also called the flicker tail state , the Peace Garden
03:13 State because the International Peace Garden is in North Dakota
03:17 and also the flicker tail state because there are so
03:21 many Richardson's ground squirrels that live in North Dakota that
03:26 flicker their tails transfer . All right now , we
03:30 are going to look at the flag of the state
03:33 of North Dakota . North Dakota's flag is a blue
03:39 flag that has a symbol in the middle that looks
03:42 very similar to the Great Seal of the United States
03:47 . It features a bald eagle with his wings outstretched
03:55 and this eagle has olive branches and arrows meaning that
03:59 the United States wants to have peace . But if
04:02 it's necessary , the United States will resort to war
04:07 to . The 13 gold stars above . The Bald
04:11 Eagle represent the 13 original colonies , showing that North
04:16 Dakota is part of a family with a rich history
04:20 here in the United States . That was pretty cool
04:26 . Now we are going to locate two important places
04:30 in the state of North Dakota . The first place
04:33 we're going to locate is the city of bismarck ,
04:36 bismarck is the capital of North Dakota . Mhm mhm
04:42 . Then to the east is the city of Fargo
04:46 . Fargo is the largest city in north Dakota .
04:53 Yeah , okay , here is our final question .
04:56 You've done such a great job today . What is
04:59 the state bird of North Dakota ? What is the
05:05 state bird of North Dakota ? The state bird of
05:11 North Dakota is the western meadowlark . That's right .
05:15 The western meadowlark , the western meadowlark is a songbird
05:20 that loves the open country . Western meadow larks have
05:26 distinctive yellow bellies and throats and it looks like they're
05:31 wearing a little black fib as if they're gonna like
05:33 spill something when they're eating . It's kinda cute .
05:35 The western meadow larks are easy to pick out because
05:39 of these bright , distinctive colors . These birds love
05:45 to eat insects like caterpillars , spiders , grasshoppers ,
05:49 so bugs , snails and beetles . Thanks for watching
