00:12	the state of Nevada . Yeah , that's right .
00:15	The state of Nevada , the first thing we want
00:21	to learn about Nevada is , where it is .
00:24	If you don't know where Nevada is , you can't
00:26	ever visit . So we're going to learn where it
00:28	is and then we're gonna learn a lot of other
00:30	cool facts . Mhm Okay , here we have a
00:35	United States map , we're trying to figure out where
00:38	the state of Nevada is . Do you happen to
00:41	already know where Nevada is ? Where is the state
00:45	of Nevada ? Uh huh . Nevada is right here
00:53	on the United States map . That's pretty cool ,
00:56	isn't it ? Nevada is in a region of the
00:58	United States called the West . Great . Now we're
01:06	going to take a few moments to look at the
01:08	States that border Nevada in all , there are five
01:12	states that border Nevada . Mhm . The state that
01:17	borders Nevada to the northwest is the state of Oregon
01:23	. Then the state bordering Nevada to the Northeast is
01:27	the state of Idaho to the east is the state
01:33	of Utah and to the Southeast is Arizona . Mhm
01:42	. Mhm . Finally bordering the state of Nevada to
01:45	the west and to the south is the state of
01:48	California . In all five states . Border Nevada .
01:55	Cool ! Well , now that we know where Nevada
01:58	is , Let's look at two nicknames of the state
02:02	of Nevada . To learn even more about this state
02:06	, Nevada has two main nicknames , The Silver State
02:12	and the Sage brush states . We're going to be
02:15	looking at both of these nicknames very closely to see
02:18	what they teach us about Nevada first . Why is
02:25	Nevada called the Silver State ? That's a really good
02:28	question . Why is Nevada called the Silver State ?
02:32	Well , in the middle of the 1800s , there
02:37	was a huge silver rush in Nevada . In fact
02:43	, there was so much silver in Nevada that people
02:46	were literally able to shovel the silver off the ground
02:50	. It didn't take long before most of that silver
02:56	on the ground was all shoveled up , but there
02:58	was still a lot of silver in Nevada . Even
03:02	after all of that surface , silver had been shoveled
03:08	today . Nevada is the second largest producer of silver
03:13	in the United States . Which is another huge reason
03:16	why Nevada is called the Silver State . Mhm .
03:23	That's cool . But why is Nevada called the Sage
03:26	brush State ? Why is Nevada called the Sage brush
03:31	state ? Here is what a sage brush plant looks
03:36	like . Saint brushes are all over the state of
03:43	Nevada . They are a very common plant there .
03:45	In fact they are also the state flower of Nevada
03:52	. So , Nevada has two main nicknames , The
03:56	Silver State , because of the silver raj and because
03:59	of all the silver they produce each year and the
04:02	sage brush state . Because there are so many sage
04:06	brush is in the state of Nevada . Wow !
04:11	You have been doing an awesome job here in this
04:14	Nevada video . Now we're going to look at the
04:17	flag of the state of Nevada . Here is the
04:23	flag of the state of Nevada . It is a
04:27	blue flag with the state emblem in the top left
04:31	hand corner of the flag . Mhm In the middle
04:37	of the state emblem is a silver star . This
04:40	silver star is a silver star because Nevada is what
04:44	the silver state . The silver star is surrounded by
04:49	sage brush because Nevada is also Uh huh . The
04:54	sage brush state . Both nicknames are on this flag
05:01	above the silver star is a scroll that's golden with
05:07	the words battle . Born because Nevada became a state
05:11	during the american civil war . Wonderful . Now we
05:18	are going to locate two important places on the map
05:22	of Nevada . The first place we're gonna locate is
05:25	Carson city . Carson city is the capital of Nevada
05:31	. Then way down in the southern part of Nevada
05:36	is the city of las Vegas . Las Vegas is
05:40	the largest city in Nevada . Here is the welcome
05:46	sign of las Vegas . Las Vegas is one of
05:49	the most famous cities in the world . About 40
05:58	million people visit Las Vegas each and every year .
06:03	Yes wow that is a lot of people . There's
06:06	a lot of people mm . All right . We've
06:11	come to our final question , what is the state
06:14	bird of Nevada ? What is the state bird of
06:18	Nevada ? Mhm . The state bird of Nevada is
06:22	the mountain bluebird . The mountain bluebird . Me too
06:29	. Yeah . Mountain bluebirds are medium sized birds with
06:34	a really cute call . Their call is Chirchir .
06:37	Could you could you give that a try ? Can
06:39	you get to be a mountain bluebird and say church
06:42	? It's like a thin little church church . Er
06:45	That's what they say . They say church and they
06:48	eat grasshoppers . They can eat peanuts and small fruits
06:51	. They even like eating spiders . That's right .
