00:09 . Mhm . In this video we are learning about
00:12 the state of New Mexico . That's right . We're
00:15 going to have such a great time learning about New
00:17 Mexico . Where first we want to find where new
00:22 Mexico is on the United States map here is the
00:26 map of the United States . Now where is the
00:29 State of New Mexico ? Where is New Mexico ?
00:36 Yeah right down here , New Mexico is right down
00:42 here on the map of the United States . New
00:45 Mexico is in a region of the United States called
00:49 the Southwest . Cool . Now we are going to
00:55 look at the places that border New Mexico . First
01:02 bordering New Mexico to the north is the state of
01:04 colorado . Then there are two states that border New
01:10 Mexico to the east , Oklahoma and texas . You
01:19 might notice texas borders New Mexico to the south a
01:22 little bit too . Then bordering New Mexico directly to
01:28 the south is the country of Mexico . That's right
01:33 Mexico . Then there are two states that border New
01:39 Mexico to the west , directly to the west is
01:43 the state of Arizona and then to the northwest is
01:47 the state of Utah . Right here is a really
01:53 cool place called the four corners . It's where Utah
01:57 colorado New Mexico and Arizona meet . At one point
02:02 it's a place you can actually visit and step there
02:04 and be like , I'm almost in four states at
02:07 the same time . To review New Mexico is down
02:14 here in a region of the United States called the
02:17 Southwest . Very cool . Now we are going to
02:23 look at two nicknames of the State of New Mexico
02:26 to learn even more . The two nicknames of New
02:32 Mexico are the Land of Enchantment and the cactus state
02:37 interesting names . First , why is New Mexico called
02:44 the Land of Enchantment ? The word enchantment means delight
02:50 or wonder and it can often carry the idea of
02:53 being magical . It's almost so wonderful . It's magical
02:57 . Look at the rich beauty . This Land of
03:00 Enchantment , New Mexico here is a hot air balloon
03:05 ride over New Mexico . The Land of Enchantment .
03:09 Look at these captivating views , so much wonder .
03:12 It's almost magical . The Land of Enchantment , I
03:16 hope they remembered their cameras . So New Mexico is
03:21 called the Land of Enchantment . But why is New
03:23 Mexico called the cactus state ? New Mexico is called
03:30 the cactus state because there are so many cactus plants
03:34 there . But I would run if you saw a
03:36 cactus plant like this . They're not supposed to have
03:38 eyes , not supposed to have mouths . Okay .
03:41 Not that's not normal , not normal . Here's a
03:45 cactus plant , a real cactus plant , cactus plants
03:49 come in many shapes and sizes . Most cactus plants
03:55 are covered in these spikes called spines . The spines
04:01 are meant to protect the plant and to protect the
04:04 water supply in the cactus plant . Because cactus plants
04:08 are in dry environments where water is very precious .
04:15 Here is something interesting . If there is more than
04:18 one cactus plant , they are called cacti . Yeah
04:23 , so if you look at this picture , you
04:24 can say , oh my goodness , look at all
04:26 those cat die in New Mexico . Okay , that's
04:30 awesome . New Mexico has a lot of cacti .
04:34 I awesome . Now we are going to look at
04:40 the flag of New Mexico , the Land of Enchantment
04:44 , The cactus state . Here it is the flag
04:51 of the state of New Mexico . The flag is
04:55 a yellow flag with a red symbol in the middle
05:00 . This red symbol in the center of the flag
05:03 is the zia sun symbol of the Zia . People
05:08 zia people lived in New Mexico long before the spanish
05:13 explorers founded in the 15 hundreds . The cool thing
05:19 is the zia still live in New Mexico today .
05:23 The colors of the flag , yellow and red are
05:28 a tribute to Spain , the country that used to
05:32 own the land of New Mexico . Cool , now
05:37 we are going to locate two major cities in the
05:40 state of New Mexico . First is the city of
05:44 santa . Fe santa , fe is the capital of
05:48 New Mexico , then a little further south into the
05:54 west is the city of Albuquerque . Albuquerque is the
05:59 largest city in New Mexico . All right , here
06:04 is our final question . What is the state bird
06:07 of New Mexico ? Mhm . The , the ,
06:12 the state bird of New Mexico is the greater roadrunner
06:16 , uh , the greater roadrunner . And in case
06:19 you're curious , there is a lesser roadrunner , but
06:22 the state bird of New Mexico is the greater roadrunner
06:25 . They are birds with long legs that go really
06:29 fast . That's what they're known for because they are
06:35 so fast . Greater roadrunners love to chase down their
06:39 prey . Thanks for watching this video on New Mexico
06:44 , The Land of Enchantment , The cactus state .
