00:00 wow , we are going to learn so many cool
00:03 things on this home school pop video . All right
00:06 . What's the first thing we should learn ? How
00:09 about addition ? I love Edition . I love it
00:16 very much . I love Edition . I add up
00:19 all my stuff . I know the voice of an
00:22 angel . All right , So , really ? Why
00:27 do I love audition ? Why do I love Edition
00:31 ? And why should you love Edition ? Well ,
00:35 I love Edition . Because Edition is so simple and
00:40 so much fun . We're gonna show you were gonna
00:43 prove to you that addition is so simple and so
00:46 much fun . You're gonna have a great time doing
00:49 it . Okay , So , you might be wondering
00:52 what is addition ? What do we do when we
00:54 do addition ? Well , addition is putting numbers together
00:58 . It's like a great game of putting numbers together
01:03 . Okay , addition is putting numbers together . Now
01:09 we're going to show you exactly how this works by
01:12 talking about this sport . Do you know what sport
01:18 this is ? Okay ? Mhm . Yeah , this
01:23 is golf . Mhm . This lady hit the golf
01:29 ball and she's hoping that the golf ball goes into
01:33 the hole . We're pulling for you sally . Don't
01:37 know if you actually got the ball in the hole
01:39 but we're pulling for you Sally . You can do
01:41 it sally , you can do it . You see
01:43 she's so excited . She doesn't know . She doesn't
01:46 know . But we don't know either . So anyway
01:50 , all we can do is guess we don't really
01:52 know sally all that well . But let's pretend that
01:57 Sally loves golf and let's pretend that Sally likes to
02:02 collect golf balls . So sally is playing with one
02:09 golf ball . Let's say that's the only golf ball
02:13 she has with her right now she's got one golf
02:16 ball but she finds another golf ball by a tree
02:24 . So she had one golf ball and then she
02:27 found another one . We need to put these numbers
02:32 together don't we to find out how many golf balls
02:35 she has now putting numbers together . That's that's addition
02:40 , that's addition . So now we put these two
02:45 numbers together , she had one golf ball , she
02:49 found another one . So let's add both of those
02:53 balls , how many do we have ? Mhm Yeah
02:59 to sally now has two golf balls . Good job
03:05 sally , oh audition I knew I loved you audition
03:11 . All you are is just putting numbers together .
03:15 So simple , so fun a game anyone can play
03:21 well you know sally you know sally she went back
03:26 to that golf course the very next day because remember
03:30 she loves golf right and of course sally brought her
03:36 to golf balls because remember she had one golf ball
03:39 and she found another one so now she has to
03:42 but you know what , she had a great day
03:44 at the course and she actually found two more balls
03:49 . I know and that crazy sadly is really great
03:53 at finding golf balls . She found two more balls
03:59 . Now we have to find out how many golf
04:02 balls she has . Wait a second . We're putting
04:06 that we're putting numbers together . It's addition it's time
04:09 we're gonna get to through addition again . Remember addition
04:12 is putting numbers together . She had two balls and
04:16 now she's found two more balls and we get to
04:19 find out how many she has now that's edition putting
04:23 numbers together . So she had two balls and she's
04:29 found two new ones . So we need to find
04:31 out what two plus two is . What a great
04:36 addition problem . What's two plus two ? If you
04:40 don't know you can actually just count the golf balls
04:44 . What's two plus two ? Yeah 42 plus two
04:51 equals four . Remember addition is putting numbers together .
04:59 Two plus two equals four . That's addition putting numbers
05:06 together . Oh bless her heart . Sally's at it
05:13 again . She's back at the golf course to collect
05:18 more golf balls . So sally brings all of her
05:23 golf balls now she has four of them . She
05:27 brought all four to the golf course . Well she
05:32 looked high and low and wouldn't you know it ?
05:35 She found three golf balls during her time at the
05:39 golf course . I know she's so good at collecting
05:42 golf balls . Now we need to figure out how
05:47 many golf balls she has and yes we're putting numbers
05:50 together so it's going to be an addition problem .
05:54 She had four golf balls and now she has three
05:59 more golf balls . So what is four plus three
06:06 ? Remember with addition we're just putting numbers together so
06:12 if you need help you can actually count the number
06:15 of golf balls on the screen . What's four plus
06:19 three ? Yeah , four plus three equals seven .
06:29 She has seven golf balls now . Great job adding
06:36 . Well , now , you know , the basics
06:39 of audition and now , you know why I love
06:42 auditions so much in the comments below , Tell us
06:46 how much you love edition , because it's fun ,
06:49 right ? It's simple . It's fun . Where sally
06:52 , where sally , ah , there she is ,
06:55 she is , There's our little star . Thanks for
06:58 helping us count how many golf balls chicha . And
07:01 remember addition is just putting numbers together . We are
07:07 so happy to have you with us . I mean
07:09 , you are so awesome , You really are .
07:13 Oh , you like my poster , Mr Whiskers poster
07:16 , You know , it's pretty cool , pretty cool
07:19 . You know , it's a pretty cool poster .
07:22 Pretty cool cat too . I wonder what he would
07:24 like to learn about next . If he would learn
07:27 from one of our videos , what would he like
07:29 to learn next ? How about , let's learn about
07:37 equal parts . We're going to learn how to recognize
07:41 if something shows equal parts or if something shows unequal
07:46 parts . Hold on . My , my boss is
07:53 giving me his pizza order again . I'm telling you
07:56 he loves pizza way too much . I mean I
07:59 like pizza . It's fine , but he's always giving
08:03 me his pizza order . I'm always picking it up
08:05 for him and this is just , this is uh
08:09 , you know , I just here , I just
08:11 got to keep writing down , You know , he's
08:12 got all these instructions . He likes his pizza a
08:15 certain way . Oh wow . Oh , he's ,
08:20 he wants , he wants me to have some of
08:22 the pizza with him . Oh , man and and
08:25 Tad and and Gilbert . Oh , all four of
08:29 us having the same pizza . All the sharing of
08:33 pizza . So what would that look like ? What
08:38 would it look like if we had this pizza put
08:41 in four equal parts ? How would we know that
08:46 these parts of the pizza were equal mm A pizza
08:53 with four equal parts . Might look like this .
08:56 Pretty cool . Huh ? We know the parts are
09:01 equal because each of the parts are the same size
09:08 . Mhm . We're going to play a game called
09:12 Are these equal parts ? Okay . It's not really
09:17 a game but we can make it into a game
09:19 , right , Okay . It's not like checkers ,
09:22 It's not like chess . You know , it's not
09:24 like basketball , like soccer . Okay . It's not
09:28 like a game game game . Okay . But it's
09:31 still going to be fun and we're gonna be able
09:34 to see work with me or Okay , we're gonna
09:37 be able to see if these pictures show equal parts
09:43 or if these pictures show unequal parts . So here
09:50 is our first picture . Now we're gonna be looking
09:53 to see if this picture shows equal parts and this
09:58 picture shows how many parts . Two good job now
10:04 are these equal parts ? Yes this picture shows two
10:14 equal parts and we know they're equal because they're the
10:17 same size . Now look at this one . This
10:23 picture shows how many parts Yeah three parts . Now
10:30 are these equal parts ? No they're not equal parts
10:36 . They're not equal parts because they're not all the
10:39 same size . This picture does not show equal parts
10:45 . Great job . Now let's give this picture .
10:50 Try how many parts to this picture show three good
10:57 job . And are these parts equal parts . No
11:05 they're not equal parts . Can you imagine if you
11:08 got that bottom part ? If this if this square
11:11 was like a cake and you've got that bottom part
11:14 . That wouldn't be fair . Why these are not
11:16 equal parts . Let's give this triangle picture a try
11:23 . How many parts does this picture show ? Great
11:28 Job . three . And are these equal parts ?
11:35 Yeah . Yes they're equal parts because they are all
11:39 the same size . Equal parts means each part is
11:43 the same size . Great job . What about this
11:50 picture ? How many parts does this picture have ?
11:54 Be careful when you count . It's a little bit
11:57 tricky . This picture has four parts . Now .
12:04 Are these equal parts ? No they're not equal parts
12:10 . How do we know because they're not the same
12:13 size ? I don't know about you but I feel
12:20 pretty good about this . Equal parts stuff . It
12:23 just means that the parts are the same size when
12:26 they're the same size . That means they're equal oh
12:31 this little baby is putting together a little craft you
12:35 know it's so great . I just love that .
12:37 This has so good . Wait a second . Papers
12:41 from that book , isn't it ? Okay , this
12:44 is , see this is , this is not an
12:46 approved arts and crafts activity right now . Okay ,
12:51 we're gonna have to take care of this . But
12:53 first let's learn about subtraction . Oh , do you
13:04 know where I am ? Yeah . You know ,
13:07 I'm waiting patiently in this waiting room . Oh man
13:12 , it has been a while . Have you ever
13:15 been in a waiting room before ? Cool . Yeah
13:23 , they can be fun but you do have to
13:24 be patient and it's a good time to think ,
13:27 you know , you can think about all kinds of
13:29 things like , okay , I have eight cowboy hats
13:35 . I know it's crazy . It's weird . Eight
13:37 cowboy hats and they're all the exact same . The
13:41 exact same hat . I've got eight of them .
13:44 Eight brown cowboy hats . I mean what's the guy
13:49 going to do with eight brown cowboy hats that look
13:53 the exact same ? What could I possibly do with
13:58 eight brown cowboy hats that are all the same .
14:02 I mean I should probably give some of them away
14:05 . You know , I could give away one of
14:08 my hats to bob . I'm cooking , might want
14:11 one . Yeah , she might like a brown cowboy
14:13 hat , you know , I can give one a
14:16 nancy , you know just in case she ever got
14:18 invited to western party and chomsky , he'd take a
14:22 hat . So as I'm sitting here thinking about my
14:27 eight hats , I need to figure out how many
14:29 hats I'll have left if I give some of them
14:32 away to figure that out . We need to use
14:37 subtraction . You see subtraction is when you take numbers
14:42 away . Yeah , very simple subtraction is when you
14:45 take numbers away . So I begin with eight hats
14:51 and I decided to give one away . We're gonna
14:55 need to subtract one from eight . The way we
14:59 would write this is 8 -1 . Now remember when
15:06 we subtract we're just taking numbers away so 8 -1
15:11 we're gonna just take one away . There we go
15:15 . How many hats do I have left ? What
15:18 is 8 -1 ? If it helps you can just
15:22 count how many hats I have left . What is
15:26 8 -1 ? Mm . Yeah seven eight minus one
15:34 is seven . Now I have seven hats . Remember
15:41 subtraction is when you take numbers away and as you
15:46 might have noticed we use the minus sign when we
15:49 write a subtraction problem you can see it right there
15:53 in the middle . It's just like a dash that's
15:56 the minus sign . So now I have seven hats
16:01 but two of my friends stopped by and I decided
16:03 you know what I know I just have seven hats
16:06 now but I want to give two of them away
16:09 . Now I'm gonna be subtracting two hats from my
16:13 collection . We would write this by saying 7 -2
16:21 . Now let's take away two hats . We'll find
16:23 out how many we have left . What a wonderful
16:26 subtraction problem . What is 7 -2 . If you
16:32 need help you can just count how many hats are
16:34 left . What is 7 -2 ? Seven minus two
16:40 equals five . Yeah . Five hats . And you
16:44 can even count them 12345 There are five hats left
16:49 . Seven minus two equals five . Do you see
16:55 how fun and simple subtraction is ? Subtraction is when
16:59 you take numbers away . So now I have five
17:04 hats in my collection . Only five hats left .
17:08 But then I meet up with my cousins who we
17:11 dewey and Stewie who want to have hats too and
17:15 I'd love to give them hats so I'm gonna give
17:18 three more hats away . So I have five hats
17:22 and we're gonna subtract three hats , we would write
17:25 that five minus three . Oh I love subtraction so
17:33 much . Alright Bada Bing . There we go .
17:38 The three hats are gone , so 5 -3 .
17:43 How many hats are left ? It's pretty simple ,
17:47 isn't it ? Mhm , mm hmm . Yeah 5
17:54 -3 equals two . Good job . Subtraction is just
17:59 taking numbers away and 5 -3 leaves you with two
18:04 . Now I have just two hats . We love
18:08 subtraction . I mean subtraction is when you take numbers
18:13 away and why am I in the middle of the
18:16 road with the shopping card ? So I had my
18:23 two hats and that's fun because then the hat has
18:27 a friend and they're like buddies and they're like a
18:30 pair of friends and then chomsky came by and I
18:38 said oh I'm going to have to do subtraction again
18:43 , I'm going to have to subtract again . Old
18:45 chomsky , you know the charms the game by ,
18:50 I said I'm going to have to subtract again Mhm
18:55 I'm going to have to subtract one more time ,
19:01 so I have two hats minus one , 2 -1
19:09 . So we subtract that one , we take that
19:13 one away and how many hats are left ? What
19:17 is 2 -1 , yep , 2 -1 equals one
19:28 . There's only one hat left , which is fine
19:31 . I mean you know , I can only wear
19:33 one hat at a time and it was the same
19:36 exact hat I think about it . Subtraction has been
19:40 good to me , it's good . Subtraction is taking
19:43 numbers away Sometimes . I do wonder what would have
19:50 happened if I didn't give that Hattaway . If if
19:55 hat he still had his friend they could have gone
19:58 to the beach together . They could have gone to
20:01 birthday parties together . But actually they had a better
20:08 purpose to make a friend happy . So in this
20:13 waiting room , all I got to say is thanks
20:17 subtraction . You are pretty awesome . Oh this is
20:29 such a heavy cart . Oh my goodness . It's
20:33 hard work . You know A lot of times learning
20:35 can be hard work too . But we hope that
20:38 these videos are really helpful . Make learning fun .
20:41 So that learning is hard like pushing this cart .
20:45 Oh my goodness ! All right . What's the next
20:48 thing we should learn about ? Let's learn about even
20:53 and odd numbers . A number belongs to one of
20:57 two groups . Either it's an even number or it's
21:00 an odd number . So what's going on ? Why
21:03 is this even a thing we're going to talk about
21:06 it even in odd is actually pretty easy , but
21:12 it's just a matter of knowing what to look for
21:15 . So we're going to be like detectives together .
21:17 Okay , You're gonna have to have an eagle ,
21:20 uh , to help us out on her quest .
21:23 We're gonna use dinosaurs , dinosaurs are awesome . And
21:27 here's a red dinosaur . That's I don't know why
21:30 it's windy . There's wind going on . And I
21:33 don't know what's what's let's change the scenery . Let's
21:36 let's make it more modern day . There you go
21:39 . Look at that . Just walking through the neighborhood
21:41 strolling . He's ready to help us discover the secret
21:48 , right to knowing even an odd . So what
21:52 is this key that we're looking for ? What are
21:54 we looking for that will tell us if a number
21:56 is even or if the number is odd and even
22:02 number can be grouped by to an odd number cannot
22:07 be evenly grouped by two . So it's all about
22:10 the number two . And that might sound confusing .
22:12 Let me show you and you'll see here is the
22:16 easiest number to do . We're looking for the number
22:20 two . Okay . Can it be put in a
22:23 group of two ? Well yes because it's the number
22:25 two . We've got to dinosaurs . That makes to
22:28 even now this is odd . This dinosaurs All alone
22:34 . He's not in a group of two . This
22:36 makes the number one an odd number because he's all
22:40 alone . That's odd . It's an odd number .
22:45 Let's look back at the number to see what's neat
22:48 about . This is it's an even group of two
22:51 . That means our dinosaur has a friend , he
22:53 can talk to his friend , he can hang out
22:55 . It's not it's not weird . It's not odd
22:58 . It's an even number here . We have three
23:01 dinosaurs . Now can we put the number three in
23:05 even groups of two ? Well no because that third
23:08 dinosaurs all alone . The top two dinosaurs have somebody
23:11 three is odd . There's one that's missing a partner
23:15 here we have four dinosaurs . Now we're looking for
23:19 groups of the number two . Now we have two
23:22 groups of . To hear . That means it's an
23:24 even number . Each dinosaur has a friend , wow
23:31 five dinosaurs but look One on the bottom doesn't have
23:36 a pal , doesn't have a friend . That's odd
23:40 . It's not evenly grouped into 25 is an odd
23:44 number . Hey buddy . Okay . Don't don't run
23:47 . Okay , we'll get back to the even numbers
23:49 . I know you don't like the odds . You
23:50 don't like being the odd dinosaur out . It's okay
23:53 . I promise this next number is going to be
23:56 even because it goes for even odd , even odd
23:59 . Just hang on man dinosaurs . You know ,
24:04 so temperamental . You know I mean what's that all
24:08 about ? I mean a dog , dog wouldn't have
24:10 done that . You know , dogs are better I
24:13 think now than dinosaurs . You know , I'm just
24:18 kidding , dinosaurs are so cool . Moving on here
24:27 we have six dinosaurs now . Each dinosaur has a
24:32 friend . That means six is even . You can
24:36 split it up in groups of two . Oh here
24:42 we have seven dinosaurs . But there's one dinosaur that's
24:46 all alone . Six of them have friends . But
24:49 one is all alone . Doesn't have a pair .
24:51 Seven is odd for the number eight . Does everyone
24:59 have a friend ? Yes , there's no one without
25:02 a friend . Number eight is an even number .
25:06 It splits up into two very nicely . Eight is
25:09 even let's go even higher than number nine . Now
25:14 you can see really quick , it's easy to spot
25:17 is nine even or odd . Yes , it's odd
25:22 . There's one who doesn't have a friend . Nine
25:24 Izod . Oh my goodness . 10 . 10 is
25:29 it even or is odd ? You tell me you
25:33 know how to do it now . You know the
25:34 trick ? Yes , 10 is even everybody has a
25:39 friend . Now we're about to teach you to sneaky
25:45 tricks that you can use with even and odd numbers
25:49 . Okay , so seriously ? Because it's well it's
25:53 it's not it's not really sneaky . But anyway ,
25:57 so this first trick is that all of the numbers
26:00 alternate from odd to even and back . And we're
26:05 going to show you what that means and what that
26:08 looks like . Here we have the 1st 10 numbers
26:14 , numbers one through 10 . And the trick was
26:17 all of the numbers alternate from odd to even and
26:21 back . Do you remember if number one is odd
26:24 or even ? Yeah . Yes . Number one is
26:30 odd because remember number one all by himself doesn't have
26:33 a friend , doesn't have a partner . It's not
26:35 an even number . Number one is odd . Now
26:39 we remember number two right . Number two is even
26:44 . Yes because it can be grouped into because it
26:46 is too . Now if they alternate that means which
26:50 one is number three it's odd . This is where
26:58 it gets fun . If three is odd then that
27:01 means four is yeah even good job . And if
27:08 four is even , that means five must be odd
27:14 . Yeah and if five is odd , that means
27:18 six must be you guessed it even and if six
27:24 is even , that means seven must be odd .
27:30 Yes seven is odd . If seven is odd that
27:34 means eight is come on . What's the pattern ?
27:37 Eight is even and if aid is even , that
27:41 means night must be odd and nine is odd .
27:46 Come on . Is this not just the most fun
27:48 drink ever ? If nine is odd , that means
27:53 10 is even . They all alternate . So the
27:58 first trick is that they alternate , the numbers alternate
28:02 , odd , even odd , even odd , even
28:06 odd , even odd . Even now . We're going
28:09 to look at the second trick . The second trick
28:12 is that with numbers bigger than 10 If it's odd
28:16 or even you can see on the end With numbers
28:21 bigger than 10 . If it's odd or even you
28:23 can see on the end to demonstrate , let's play
28:30 a game . We here at home school pop call
28:33 Odd or even . We're gonna look at a number
28:37 that's bigger than 10 . We're gonna look on the
28:39 end to see if it's even or if it's odd
28:43 . Our 1st 1 is the number 21 . Is
28:46 it odd ? Or is it even ? It's odd
28:52 . How why what we look on the end ?
28:55 The end is a one . A one is odd
28:58 . It's all by itself . A one is odd
29:02 . So 21 is odd because one is the ending
29:06 . It did . You know ? That means 71
29:12 is odd and 101 is odd and 131 is odd
29:18 and the number 1000 and one is odd . Why
29:21 they all end in ? What ? Let's try this
29:25 one . The number 32 . Is it odd ?
29:28 Or is it even 32 is even ? Well how
29:36 do we know because of the ending ? Look at
29:38 the ending , it's the number 22 is an even
29:41 number because it's a group of two . It can
29:44 be put in groups of two because it is to
29:47 the same rule applies . This is the second trick
29:50 with numbers bigger than 10 if it's odd or even
29:53 you can see on the end every single number that
29:58 you can think of ends in two is an even
30:02 number . Let's try one . That's a little more
30:09 tricky . Let's try the number . 100 is 100
30:13 odd or is it even 100 is even ? It's
30:26 even and we know that because of the ending ,
30:29 it ends in a zero . Now remember second trick
30:33 with numbers bigger than 10 if it's odd or even
30:37 You can see on the end and ending is a
30:40 zero and every number that ends and zero is even
30:45 . Let's look at the chart again As you can
30:49 see 10 on the bottom ends in zero . And
30:54 it's even every single number that ends in zero is
30:58 even just like every number that ends in a one
31:01 is odd . Every number that ends in a two
31:04 is even . Every number that ends in a three
31:08 is odd because three is odd . Every number that
31:11 ends in a four is even and it goes on
31:14 and on , numbers that end in five are odd
31:17 , numbers that end in six or even numbers that
31:20 end in seven are odd . Yeah , Numbers that
31:26 end in eight are even numbers that end in nine
31:31 are odd and the numbers like 10 end in zero
31:35 are always even . So there you go odd .
31:40 And even as long as you learn these , you'll
31:44 know any number because the endings always tell you if
31:48 it's otter even . So once you know these ,
31:50 you'll know all of them , You're doing great .
31:56 You're increasing your skills just like this razor , you're
31:59 racing on the water , you're increasing your skills ,
32:02 you're doing a wonderful job . And next we are
32:06 going to learn about three dimensional shapes . This is
32:11 gonna be awesome . Love the three D shapes .
32:13 A lot of people know the two D shapes .
32:15 You might not know the three D shapes . You're
32:17 in the right place before we get started . Me
32:21 just dance here real quick . This is really cool
32:24 music . I really like this . You know ,
32:25 I like the dance . You know , some people
32:27 , they're not dancers , you know , I dance
32:29 , I dabble and dancing , you know ? All
32:33 right , that's enough . Can somebody turn that music
32:36 off ? Seriously ? I can I can't teach like
32:38 this . I can't teach with this music going on
32:41 . You know , I didn't feel like I'm in
32:42 a candy shop . Listen to some music off ,
32:44 please . Thanks . So here they are , our
32:49 old friends . The two D shapes . You're familiar
32:52 with these . You know , you're familiar with the
32:54 circle , the oval , the triangle , the pentagon
32:59 , the trapezoid , the hex a gone , the
33:02 square , the rectangle , the parallelogram in the octagon
33:07 . These are all our our shapes , R2D shapes
33:11 , you know , but these are old family friends
33:13 of ours . We don't want to just Forget about
33:16 these . And before we look at 3D shapes ,
33:18 it's really important for us to look at these shapes
33:21 again because these are old friends . So we're gonna
33:24 look at each one of these one by one just
33:26 to make sure you know who they are . Before
33:29 we learn all these new shapes . This first shape
33:34 doesn't even need an introduction . It's the circle ,
33:37 the circle that round figure . It's awesome . We
33:40 love this shape . It's one of the first ones
33:43 we ever learn the circle . This next shape is
33:48 one of the stretchy shapes . The oval , it's
33:51 like a circle got stretched out . Its elongated .
33:55 It's a tremendous shape . The oval , mm .
34:02 Mhm . Here's another familiar shape . The triangle .
34:06 Three sides . We love the triangle . The triangle
34:11 is great , The three sighted friend . Three sides
34:14 . A triangle . Wait , I keep saying we
34:19 love the shapes . I mean we like the shapes
34:22 . But do you love the shapes ? Do I
34:24 love the shapes ? I mean , I don't know
34:27 . I need to take it easy here . Uh
34:30 All right , let's keep going . Yeah . Ah
34:34 The square of four sides all equal . You know
34:38 , the square is good . The squares a good
34:40 shape . You know , sometimes you just need a
34:43 square . Sometimes you just need a square . Here's
34:49 the rectangle . The rectangle is longer than the square
34:54 because not all four sides are equal . The rectangle
35:00 . I know I'm we're in the middle of something
35:04 here , but I have to share this . Okay
35:05 , so what do you call a hamster with a
35:08 top hat ? Abraham stir Lincoln . I digress the
35:18 trapezoid . A cool shape with two of the sides
35:22 being parallel to each other and the parallelogram , another
35:25 four sided shape . Both pairs of sides are parallel
35:30 to each other and finally the pentagon with five sides
35:36 . The hex a gone with six sides and the
35:38 octagon with eight sides . What awesome shapes . So
35:48 let's go ahead and do a quick to D shaped
35:51 quiz . I need your help . I want to
35:53 see if you really learn these if you really know
35:56 these before we get into the three D . Shape
35:57 . So help me out here , we're gonna have
35:59 an awesome time . Wait what ? It's not my
36:05 birthday . Oh well what type of shape is on
36:09 the top ? Yeah . Yeah . A circle .
36:16 What type of shape is in the middle ? A
36:23 square , awesome . Okay now what shape is on
36:29 the bottom ? Of course A triangle , awesome job
36:36 . Now we've got more , this is a little
36:40 trickier . Which shape is in the middle ? Mhm
36:44 mm . Yeah . A trapezoid . Which shape is
36:50 on the right ? The pentagon . Good job .
36:57 And which shape is on the left ? Yeah ,
37:05 the square . Now try these . Which shape is
37:12 on the bottom ? Yeah , the oval . Which
37:19 shape is on the top ? Yeah , the parallelogram
37:28 . Which shape is in the middle . All right
37:35 . The rectangle . Great job . All right .
37:39 The last one which shape is on the left ?
37:48 Yeah , the hexagon which shape is on the right
37:58 . Great . The octagon and which shape is in
38:02 the middle , phenomenal ? The pentagon . Yeah .
38:10 All right . We're ready to learn the three D
38:13 shapes . We're going to learn how to identify the
38:16 three dimensional shapes . If you struggle through the quiz
38:19 , you might want to watch the first part of
38:21 the video again . Otherwise let's get started . So
38:26 as we're starting out it's important to remember what makes
38:30 a three D . Shape a three D . Shape
38:33 . There's an old rhyme that says three D shapes
38:36 are fat , not flat . And you can see
38:38 that with the sphere which is a three D .
38:41 Shape . We're about to learn and the circle ,
38:44 the circle is flat but the sphere is three D
38:49 . It's three Dimensional . All the shapes are like
38:52 that . So let's learn all these three D shapes
38:56 . So the first three D . Shape we're going
38:58 to learn is the sphere , the one that we
39:01 just mentioned . The sphere is the three D .
39:03 Version of the circle . It's perfectly round . There
39:12 are spheres all around us . One of the spheres
39:14 we see all the time . Our balls like this
39:17 soccer ball , a soccer ball is a sphere ,
39:21 it's perfectly round , it's a three D circle .
39:23 It's a sphere , you know this fear , Yes
39:27 , it's the Earth , it's where we live .
39:30 Our planet is a sphere . How cool is that
39:34 ? Our own planet is a sphere perfectly round .
39:38 It's a sphere in this picture . We have two
39:43 spheres . Can you spot them ? Yeah , the
39:46 two spheres are the two bullying balls . Perfect round
39:52 spheres , spheres are all around us . Here we
39:57 have a group of three spheres and you can count
40:00 them right now . 123 spheres all together the shape
40:06 of a ball , a sphere perfectly round . Well
40:12 there you have it . The sphere . What a
40:14 cool three D shape to start with . Its round
40:17 there examples all around us and it's just so cool
40:21 . And you know what ? The three d shapes
40:23 are going to get even better . Our second three
40:28 D shape is the cone . The cone is a
40:31 really cool shape with a circle as the base or
40:35 the bottom . And it all comes up to one
40:38 point called a vertex . Here's an example of a
40:42 cone . I think we all love the ice cream
40:45 cone . If it doesn't have any ice cream inside
40:47 and you flipped it upside down , you'd be able
40:49 to see the circle base and it all comes up
40:52 to one point called the vertex . Here are two
40:57 cones , a red cone and a blue cone .
41:01 And you can see both cones have that circle basin
41:04 . All comes up to of vertex . What ?
41:07 Wonderful cones ? Yeah . Have you seen these before
41:12 ? Their traffic cones here are many cones . I
41:17 didn't count all of them , but there's a lot
41:20 and they're wonderful wonderful cones . Yeah . So that's
41:25 our second three D shape . The kona wonderful cone
41:29 with the great circle base . It all comes up
41:32 to one point called the vertex . How awesome is
41:37 that ? Our third three D shape is the pyramid
41:41 . I love the pyramid . The pyramid is great
41:43 . It comes up to one point just like the
41:46 cone . Except the base is a square and the
41:48 sides instead of being smooth . They are triangles .
41:54 Okay like these are awesome . These are so cool
41:59 . The pyramids of Egypt , you see that they
42:01 have the triangle sides and the bottoms of these pyramids
42:06 are square . They're awesome examples of the pyramid .
42:09 This is a pretty cool pyramid . It's a decoration
42:12 that you plug into the wall but it's a great
42:14 example of what a pyramid looks like . The bottom
42:17 of the bases square . And there's the triangles on
42:21 the sides . How cool is this ? Here's another
42:26 pyramid and it's made of glass . There are so
42:29 many decorations and things around . Maybe even your house
42:33 that are shaped like a pyramid because pyramids look so
42:36 cool . People love putting them everywhere . There you
42:40 go . I mean , you know the pyramid ?
42:41 It's in good shape . You know , you see
42:42 a lot of them around . They've got the square
42:45 bottom or base and the triangles on the sides and
42:49 all goes up to a vertex . It's a classic
42:51 shape . It's pretty awesome . Our 4th 3D shape
42:57 is the cylinder . Now a cylinder is easy to
42:59 spot because it's got a circle on the top and
43:02 a circle on the bottom . And it's smooth all
43:06 around here we have a can of soup and it's
43:12 a cylinder has a circle on the top , a
43:15 circle on the bottom and it's smooth all around .
43:19 All cans and most jars are cylinders . Here we
43:24 have three cylinders . Their candles . And can I
43:27 tell you a secret ? Most candles are cylinders to
43:32 write this . This is just too crazy and too
43:37 awesome . Here are two more cylinders . Are you
43:41 kidding me ? Are you kidding me ? Even batteries
43:44 are cylinders , cylinders are seriously everywhere . A circle
43:48 on the top , a circle on the bottom and
43:51 smooth all around . I mean really ? The cylinder
43:55 is everywhere . I mean , you know the circle
43:58 on the top circle on the bottom , smooth all
44:00 around . I cylinder like what in the world do
44:03 you have to be everywhere ? Okay , the next
44:10 three D shape is the cube . The cube is
44:13 the three D version of the square . It has
44:16 six sides or faces that are all squares . Mm
44:22 hmm . Here we have two dice dice are in
44:27 the shape of a cube . So these two dice
44:30 or two cubes , they have six sides or faces
44:34 that are all squares . Here we have many cubes
44:41 . These are cubes that are made out of wood
44:44 . Each of them have six sides or faces that
44:48 are all squares . Here are seven cubes of ice
44:56 . Have you ever had a warm drink and you
44:58 need to put ice in it ? It's awesome because
45:00 it has this great shape , the shape of a
45:03 cube , six sides or faces all squares . I
45:08 mean there you go . The cube , right ?
45:11 The three D version of a square . And it's
45:14 got squares all along The sides , right there .
45:18 six sides or faces all squares . And I don't
45:21 know . I think it's pretty cool shape . Mm
45:26 Our final three D shape is the rectangular prism .
45:29 The rectangular prism is the three D version of the
45:32 rectangle . It has six sides or faces that are
45:36 all wrecked . Okay . An awesome example of the
45:40 rectangular prism are bricks and here we have four bricks
45:44 which are four rectangular prisms . The three D .
45:48 version of the Rectangle . You may have seen this
45:55 in your classroom or in your home . It's a
45:58 clean Xbox . And the clean Xbox is a great
46:01 example of the rectangular prism . It's got six sides
46:05 or faces that are all rectangles . Okay , so
46:08 the secret is , most boxes are rectangular prism .
46:13 So here's another rectangular prism and it's a box and
46:16 it's a shorter box , but it still has rectangles
46:19 all around . And it's rectangular prism . What else
46:25 can we say ? It's a cool shape . The
46:27 rectangular prism is the three D . Version of the
46:30 rectangle has six sides or faces that are all rectangles
46:34 . And it's just a neat shape to have around
46:37 , I think . I mean , you know .
46:39 Okay , so let's review . Pyramid , mm hmm
47:04 cylinders , mhm sphere , mhm cylinder cones . Yeah
47:33 . Pyramid , rectangular prism . Mhm . Mhm spheres
47:50 . Let's do some more On the top here .
47:56 We have cubes . We can tell that because it's
48:00 the 3D square . It has six sides or faces
48:04 . Each of them are squares . Is pretty cool
48:07 . Do you remember what shape these bricks are ?
48:10 Yeah , a rectangular prism . They are rectangular prisms
48:16 there . The 3D versions of the rectangle at the
48:24 top . We have a cone cone . It's got
48:29 a circle base on the bottom and all comes up
48:33 to one point called a vertex . Do you remember
48:37 the shape here on the bottom ? These are three
48:41 cylinders . They have a circle on the top and
48:45 a circle on the bottom . And it's smooth all
48:49 around . You're doing such an awesome job . Seriously
48:56 . So , cool . So , what's this top
48:58 shape , do you remember ? Yeah , it's a
49:01 pyramid . A pyramid . A pyramid has a square
49:04 base . It comes up to one vertex or one
49:07 point and has triangles as the sides . All right
49:16 . Do you remember this last shape here on the
49:18 bottom ? Yes . It's the sphere , the sphere
49:22 which is the three D . Circle . And we
49:25 started with it and we're ending with it and it's
49:27 so awesome . Hey Petey . I know , I
49:34 know I heard about your plane . You know it's
49:36 a cool plane . You know and and it's it's
49:39 neat . I don't know if it flies or you
49:41 you look pretty confident that it's gonna fly which is
49:44 cool . Yeah , I see you . Hello ?
49:48 Yeah thanks for waving . Thanks for saying hello .
49:50 You know we're actually in the middle of learning ,
49:52 we're in the middle of learning a lot of new
49:55 cool things right now . So I actually do have
49:58 to go high . You're still waving . Okay .
50:00 Um We're gonna go because now we need to learn
50:05 about roman numerals , which is a different way to
50:09 write numbers . And it was used a long time
50:12 ago in ancient Rome . And it's been used since
50:15 then . And you can think of it almost as
50:17 a secret code way of writing the numbers . It's
50:21 pretty simple to learn . And we're going to go
50:23 through that . The first roman numeral we're going to
50:28 learn is the roman numeral . I and I is
50:33 one I equals one . So if you see an
50:37 eye with the roman numeral , it's one . The
50:40 letter V . Is the roman numeral that means five
50:45 . And the letter X . Is the roman numeral
50:49 that means 10 . So when you think one it's
50:53 an eye , you think five , it's a V
50:57 . And if you think 10 it's an X .
51:02 So that's it . Just those three . I it
51:06 almost looks like a one . That's how you can
51:08 remember that . I is a one I . Is
51:12 the roman numeral for one . A V . Is
51:15 in the number five . When you spell it out
51:17 the number five , you see that right there .
51:19 It has a V . In it . So when
51:21 you think of V . You know oh you know
51:24 what ? There's a V . In the spelled out
51:28 number five . So the has to be five now
51:32 10 is exit , we can't think of anything that
51:36 could remind us of that . So there is no
51:38 memorization thing just when you see the exits 10 and
51:42 that's just what we're going to have to do .
51:45 Mhm . Okay , one last time here , I
51:47 just want to make sure you get it . There's
51:49 only three . I is the roman numeral for one
51:52 , the is the roman numeral for five and X
51:57 . Is the roman numeral for 10 . And you've
52:00 got to understand that so that we can start playing
52:02 kind of a game of putting them together And making
52:06 numbers other than just 15 and 10 . So let's
52:10 get started . So let's practice putting these Roman numerals
52:17 together . What number do you think this is two
52:22 ? U . C . Two eyes and i is
52:26 one . So the answer is to two eyes is
52:32 the number 21 What about this one ? You what
52:41 number do you think this is why there are three
52:46 eyes ? Yeah it's the number three . The let's
52:54 try this one . What number do you think this
52:57 is ? We see two X . Is an X
53:04 equals 10 . So 10 plus 10 equals 20 .
53:10 Great job . This is the number 20 . Whoa
53:19 . This one is so cool . Okay . An
53:22 X . And A V . What number do you
53:24 think ? This is A A . The X .
53:30 Is a 10 V . Is what number five ,
53:36 awesome . So what is 10 plus five ? 15
53:44 . Whoa . Thanks so much for helping out now
53:49 that we've looked at how to put some of these
53:51 together . I want to tell you about two special
53:54 numerals that are a little bit different . And so
53:57 you're gonna have to just remember these on their own
54:00 . The first is the number four and the number
54:02 four is represented with an I . And V .
54:06 And eyes before the V . Because four is one
54:10 less than five which is V . So remember with
54:14 four its I . V . With nine similar except
54:20 with the X . Nine is I . X .
54:23 X . Is 10 and I is just before it
54:26 . So nine is I . X . Okay .
54:31 That was really cool . Thanks for hanging out and
54:34 learning those with me . But we're not done .
54:36 We want to go through all the numbers up to
54:39 30 just using the numerals and I want to see
54:42 how much you've really learned . So if you'll do
54:45 me a favor as the numerals go up , I
54:48 want you to say the numbers along with me and
54:52 we can practice together . Sound good . Alright ,
54:55 let's get started . One two 34 five , sex
55:12 seven eight nine 10 11 . Mhm . 12 13
55:27 , 14 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ,
55:38 19 , 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 ,
55:52 27 28 29 and 30 . Mhm . Well there
56:00 you have a new way to write numbers , wow
56:05 . You completed the video . That is so impressive
56:09 . Well , you might notice there's a circle right
56:11 here on this video page that you can click to
56:14 subscribe to our channel or you can click this rectangle
56:18 to go to another one of our videos . But
56:21 keep learning . Learning is so cool .
