03:22 . Okay , So everything is going okay , we
03:25 are connected . So today's lesson is about quantities .
03:29 As I said , we're going to cover countable and
03:32 uncountable noun a lot in this lesson . So ,
03:37 uh , let's get started with the first part .
03:40 I'll show you today's lesson boards now so you can
03:44 take a picture . Uh , it looks like facebook
03:46 is Okay , Good . Tran Hello , Alicia Gonzalez
03:48 High . We have similar names . Steve . Hello
03:51 ? What's the difference between past perfect and future tense
03:54 . Check our youtube and facebook videos . The english
03:56 class one oh one videos . That is a different
03:59 topic from today's lesson . But I have made many
04:01 videos about those topics . Okay , I'll show you
04:05 today's lesson boards then . Here , what is our
04:10 flow for today ? First we're going to talk about
04:13 Countable and uncountable noun . The basic super , super
04:16 basics . I'm not going to talk about details today
04:19 , I have a couple videos about this . Then
04:23 we're going to talk about a few and few .
04:25 A little little what the difference is key differences here
04:30 and then finally we're going to talk about enough and
04:33 any okay , so for today's lesson I chose um
04:38 I wanted to focus on topics that I noticed many
04:41 learners have questions about or that I read lots of
04:45 mistakes . So uh sometimes I read your comments all
04:49 the time all the time and I noticed many mistakes
04:53 about this topic . So I chose those points .
04:57 For today , I'm going to share the lesson .
05:01 But okay and get started . Okay , so let's
05:05 begin first . Countable noun ones and uncountable noun .
05:10 What is this ? Okay , so countable noun and
05:14 uncountable noun . Maybe a beginner grammar point for some
05:17 of you . Maybe it's a new grammar point for
05:20 some of you basically accountable . Now towns are now
05:25 sounds . We can count with numbers . That means
05:28 we make a countable noun . The plural form with
05:33 an S . Sound S sound . So for example
05:37 a marker is a countable noun . I can count
05:41 it with numbers , I can say one marker ,
05:43 two markers , three markers and so on . To
05:47 make the countable or I'm sorry to make the plural
05:49 form . We simply add an S . Sound .
05:52 So here are some more examples of countable mountains .
05:56 Dog student cookie car . So we add S .
06:00 To make the plural form so more than one .
06:04 Yeah , so dogs , students cookies , cars .
06:08 Okay , so this is a countable noun . Mhm
06:12 . An uncountable noun on the other hand , is
06:16 a noun . We cannot count with numbers , we
06:20 cannot say one , this or too that for an
06:23 uncountable . Now we use counter words to do this
06:28 . So here are some examples of uncountable noun .
06:34 We have air water , Time money , so we
06:39 can't say one money or one time . We don't
06:44 use 123 before these . Now we use counters .
06:49 So for example with water , a bottle of water
06:53 or a glass of water , we use those counters
06:58 to express the amounts or the quantities with uncountable amounts
07:03 . Right , okay , so this is the basic
07:07 then we need to think about countable and uncountable noun
07:12 . The difference is when we want to talk about
07:16 how much or how many of something we have .
07:21 So let's begin with countable . Now , it's just
07:24 a few examples here when you want to express a
07:28 large number of something accountable now you can use for
07:33 example , these expressions lots of something many something tons
07:41 of or a lot of there are many different expressions
07:46 we can use to talk about large numbers , but
07:50 these are very , very common . So we use
07:53 lots of plus the plural form like lots of markers
07:57 or many students or tons of dogs or a lot
08:02 of cookies . Yeah , so we use the plural
08:06 form now and plus S after this to express a
08:11 large number . Okay , then on the other hand
08:16 , uh Samir abu rights , bottles of waters .
08:20 Uh no . We would say bottles of water .
08:23 We don't put an S at the end of this
08:26 year , bottles of water . Your counter where it
08:28 is plural here . Okay , then on the other
08:32 hand , when you want to talk about large amounts
08:37 of uncountable now owns , you can use expressions like
08:41 these . So lots of is okay to use for
08:44 both . Yeah , lots of is good for both
08:47 . We can use tons of also a lot of
08:51 and then I have here much . This is a
08:54 key point . I see with learners , lots of
08:58 learners think , oh , I use many in this
09:01 expression with countable noun . Much here , but we
09:06 cannot use much in a positive sentence when we're talking
09:11 about quantity . So for example , it's incorrect to
09:15 say I have much time . That's incorrect . We
09:21 only use much with negative sentences . So for example
09:27 , I don't have much time . Okay , so
09:30 this is one kind of strange point to think about
09:34 . Okay , yes . Uh mode use three huge
09:39 , huge is an adjective , right ? So you
09:42 can say a huge amount of something . Yes .
09:46 So there are many different expressions we can use to
09:49 talk about large numbers or large amounts I chose in
09:53 for today's lesson . I chose very very common expressions
09:57 we use . Okay , all right , okay .
10:02 I don't see other questions . Some interesting examples are
10:06 coming in gent and he says lots of dogs eat
10:08 pizza , is that true ? Okay . All right
10:12 , good . Someone on facebook . Sorry , I
10:14 can't read your name says I don't have much time
10:16 . Good , good , good . Okay , let's
10:18 continue . So we talked about large numbers and large
10:22 amounts . Now let's talk about small numbers and small
10:25 amounts . This leads us to part two for today's
10:28 lesson . So to talk about a small number .
10:33 You can use some or a few or a few
10:37 . What's the difference here ? We're going to talk
10:39 about this in part two of today's lesson . The
10:42 difference between a few and few . What is the
10:44 deal on the other hand , for uncountable noun ,
10:49 we can use some . Also some is okay here
10:52 With both . We can use a little and little
10:57 and again , you might think what is the difference
10:59 between those ? Part 2 ? I'm going to focus
11:02 on these points in part two . Okay then this
11:07 is another thing I've noticed . Some learners make mistakes
11:10 with when you want to express that you have more
11:14 of something than you need if you're known as Countable
11:19 , you can say too many . Too many .
11:22 For example , I have too many books . I
11:25 have too many books like I have no space have
11:27 too many books . If you're now is uncountable ,
11:31 you use I have too much free time . So
11:35 in this expression we can , it's okay to say
11:38 too much . This is fine , but we cannot
11:40 use much . I have much free time is incorrect
11:44 . Okay ? So please note we cannot use .
11:47 So in this expression , uh sometimes I see learners
11:51 using so into in the same way incorrect . I'm
11:54 going to talk about that next week's live lesson actually
11:57 . Okay , so this is the basis for today's
12:02 lesson . Countable and Uncountable Mountains . We need to
12:06 know this to understand the rest of today's lesson .
12:10 The other points . Okay ? So if you have
12:13 questions , please send them in the chat . I
12:16 will try to check your questions live . Okay ,
12:20 Looks good . So let's go to a very short
12:23 break and then we're going to talk about few and
12:26 little and a few and a little . Okay ,
12:29 cool . So if you haven't , please do make
12:31 sure please make sure to hit the like button ,
12:33 hit the thumbs up and share the video . It
12:36 will help other people to find today's lesson . Okay
12:40 ? Alright . Also , if you missed it earlier
12:43 , there is free step for you from the link
12:45 below the video . If you're watching on Youtube or
12:48 above the video , if you're watching on facebook several
12:51 years , I chose a few that I usually don't
12:54 show you . Here's a pdf about free time activities
12:58 , leisure time , activities , means free time ,
13:00 the stuff you do in your free time so you
13:03 can find weekend plan expressions on the back like what
13:08 are you doing this weekend ? I'm going to something
13:11 , something , something . Yeah , I have to
13:12 decide that . I was thinking about that this week
13:14 . What are you doing this weekend ? Okay ,
13:16 so you can check this out uh , and find
13:19 some ideas for your weekend down here . Or I
13:23 was also looking , I show you this one ,
13:25 uh , sometimes the business english , 12 on the
13:28 back , art phrases you can use for a business
13:31 meeting . There are also quite a few new PDFs
13:35 on the website . So if you checked before ,
13:37 uh , and downloaded all of them , check again
13:40 because there's there , the team added a lot of
13:43 new things . So don't miss it , you can
13:45 still download it . Okay . Oh good . Some
13:48 questions are coming . Um , Dennis yuks on our
13:53 Youtube says , can I say I did so many
13:55 mistakes . Close say I made so many mistakes ,
13:58 we say to make a mistake to make a mistake
14:02 . That's a set phrase . I made so many
14:04 mistakes . Okay . Uh you know , so he
14:08 says I don't need more snacks . I already have
14:10 too many snacks . Really . I can never have
14:14 too many snacks . I love snacks . So okay
14:17 , good . Let's go to uh part two ,
14:22 Part two . So let's talk about few and a
14:25 few and a little and a little . This is
14:29 a small difference . I know , but it changes
14:34 the feeling of your sentence a lot . This decision
14:38 . So this is a key point for intermediate learners
14:41 I think . And advanced learners . Please please please
14:44 remember this . Okay , so let's look a few
14:49 few . What's the deal here ? So this part
14:52 is about countable noun . That's the first point .
14:56 We use a few and few with countable now .
15:00 So in this sentence I'm going to come in these
15:03 two sentences . I'm going to compare the differences .
15:07 So let's read first . What's the difference ? My
15:10 company bought a few computers . My company bought a
15:13 few computers . Okay . And my company bought a
15:17 few computers . My company bought a few computers .
15:21 Both sentences are 100 correct . No problem there .
15:25 Great . Great sentences . Perfect . So what's the
15:28 difference ? The difference is right here this up .
15:31 So my company bought a few computers or my company
15:34 bought few computers . What's the difference ? This sentence
15:38 here with a few sounds like a simple neutral fact
15:44 . I'm giving you information . My company bought a
15:47 few computers last week . It's just basic information .
15:50 Like a report . Yeah . This sentence . My
15:54 company bought a few computers . Sounds like a negative
15:59 situation or a negative conditions . So my company bought
16:03 few computers . We need a lot though . Our
16:07 team is growing . So this small change yeah shows
16:12 us that the situation is negative . Or maybe there
16:15 was a negative effect . We'll see the same thing
16:18 with little in just a minute . So this uh
16:23 shows us a simple report . Simple fact . No
16:27 . Up here shows it's a negative situation or condition
16:32 . However , there is 11 case or 11 situation
16:41 where it does not mean it's negative in this example
16:44 sentence . My company has a few problems . So
16:49 here I have a few noah , my company has
16:52 a few problems if the noun after few problems is
16:59 a negative . Now , the feeling of the sentence
17:03 is positive . So one important point when I say
17:07 negative noun here , I mean this now means something
17:12 bad . Something that's a problem . Something bad in
17:15 society in this case a problem is not a good
17:19 thing , Right ? So my company has a few
17:23 problems in this case . When the now is a
17:26 bad thing and you use a few , The sentence
17:30 sounds positive , the feeling is positive , like my
17:33 company has few problems . My company has very few
17:37 problems , it's great . This sentence sounds happy ,
17:40 it sounds good . Okay , so this is the
17:43 difference with few and a few . Okay , good
17:48 . Some of your examples are coming in good .
17:51 Uhh let's see . There is uh Salma , there
17:56 is a few apple in the fridge , very close
17:59 plural . There are a few apples in the fridge
18:03 . Don't forget your s at the end of your
18:05 accountable now . Okay , Eduardo says why do you
18:08 put apples in the fridge ? Okay . Alright .
18:12 Other examples , there are a few books for reading
18:16 here . Nice one . Uh rakesh . Okay ,
18:19 uh Magdalena says I bought a few computers . Ok
18:23 , Yeah , so that's good . If you want
18:24 to express a negative situation or a negative condition ,
18:28 I bought a few computers . Okay . Daniel says
18:32 there are few rich people in the world . Really
18:35 ? Really ? I don't know how many are there
18:38 . Okay . All right , let's go then .
18:40 Let's go to the next part . Someone . Uh
18:43 Let's see some of you are writing some examples of
18:46 this . Let's now let's compare this to a little
18:49 and little so . Same thing . Right . A
18:53 little and little . Same idea as a few and
18:58 few . The difference . We use little and a
19:01 little with uncountable noun . Uncountable noun . Right ,
19:06 So before we talked about air water Time money ,
19:11 we need counter words for this . Yeah . Okay
19:15 , so Let's compare these two sentences first . We
19:21 have a little time to finish the project . We
19:25 have a little time to finish the project and we
19:28 have little time to finish the project . We have
19:31 little time to finish the project . So again ,
19:35 these two the only difference is this uh yeah .
19:39 We have a little time and we have little time
19:43 again . This sentence with uh sounds like a simple
19:49 neutral fact . We have a little time to finish
19:52 the project . It's okay . Don't worry . We
19:54 have a little time . Sounds okay . Just a
19:56 fact . This sentence sounds negative . We have little
20:01 time to finish the project . We have little time
20:04 . Sounds like oh we need to rush or we
20:06 need to hurry . There's a lot to do .
20:09 We have little time to finish the project . Okay
20:13 . All right . I'm looking for your other questions
20:17 . Okay . So same idea as with few .
20:20 But again we have to use this with Uncountable Knowns
20:24 here . My known is time . This is an
20:26 uncountable . Now we have a little time to finish
20:30 the project so I cannot use a few . We
20:33 have a few times . No , if you change
20:36 this now we have a few hours hours . It's
20:40 okay , ours is accountable now . A few so
20:45 mixture you check . Your noun is a countable or
20:49 uncountable here . Finally the same thing we saw in
20:55 our last example sentence here with few is also true
21:01 here . This example sentence my city has little pollution
21:06 . My city has little pollution . What's pollution ,
21:10 pollution ? It's like it's bad air or bad water
21:14 , dirty air or dirty water . So the city
21:17 is not clean . Yeah , So pollution means all
21:22 that bad or dirty stuff . Yeah . So my
21:25 city has little pollution again , if the noun after
21:30 little in this case is a negative . Now something
21:34 bad . The feeling of the sentence is positive .
21:38 So my city has little pollution . This is a
21:41 good thing . So pollution not good , but I
21:46 want to express . There's not very much of it
21:50 . My city has little pollution . This sentence sounds
21:53 positive . Okay . All right , good , looks
21:58 good . Okay , I'm looking for your questions .
22:02 Uh We still have a little time for a cup
22:06 of coffee , says jorGE perfect . That's a great
22:09 example . You can use that at the end of
22:11 a business meeting , you could use that maybe after
22:14 you have lunch with a friend , you can say
22:16 , oh we still have a little time for a
22:18 cup of coffee . Not we still have little time
22:21 , but that little uh small uh there it makes
22:24 a big difference in feeling . Yeah , okay .
22:27 Um Zakaria , I hope I said that right on
22:31 facebook says there is little clean air in big cities
22:35 . Very nice , very nice . Okay , good
22:37 examples have er what's the difference between little and small
22:41 ? Good morning . In this . Yeah . In
22:44 this when we're talking about how much of something ,
22:47 when we're talking about quantity like this , um we
22:51 can use a small amount of time I suppose .
22:54 Like in this sentence we have a small amount of
22:58 time but we can't replace it directly . We have
23:01 a small time to finish . The project is not
23:04 doesn't work so we can't switch a little and small
23:09 . In these example sentences if however you are talking
23:12 about size like uh a small car , then it's
23:18 fine . You can use both of them the same
23:21 . Okay . All right , good times . Going
23:24 quick . So let's go to the last point for
23:27 today . The final point for today is about enough
23:30 . And any . How do we use enough ?
23:33 And how do we use any ? Okay , let's
23:36 take a look again . Let's compare a few points
23:39 . So uh enough . This is one . I
23:41 see . Yeah . Okay . I see some mistakes
23:44 with this . So let's talk about it . Alright
23:48 . Some questions are coming . Uh nee lee can
23:51 these words be used formally ? And I'm not sure
23:54 what you mean by unnaturally but formally . Yes ,
23:57 you can use uh these words in formal situations .
24:01 Uh you might hear some longer expressions used but yes
24:06 you can . Okay um Other points . Cindy Sms
24:10 One of our members high says can I say a
24:13 little bit ? Yes , you can say a little
24:14 bit . That sounds a little casual actually . Okay
24:18 . Um Okay let's go to the last point .
24:23 Enough . Let's talk about enough . What is the
24:26 deal ? So again let's compare enough to sentences first
24:31 . We have enough time . We have enough time
24:36 and we don't have enough time . We don't have
24:41 enough time . So what does enough express ? What
24:45 what does its deal ? So when we use enough
24:47 in a positive sentence like this , in this case
24:51 I have it with time and uncountable . Now this
24:54 means it matches the need in the situation we have
24:59 enough time . So enough time means the time I
25:02 have matches my requirement matches my needs . So for
25:07 example , it takes me one hour to finish this
25:11 task . I have one hour to finish the task
25:15 . I can say I have enough time . It
25:18 matches my need . On the other hand , however
25:22 , we don't have enough time negative . Don't have
25:26 enough time means this does not match my needs .
25:30 So my task takes one hour . I have 30
25:33 minutes . I don't have enough time . The time
25:37 does not match my need . Right , Okay .
25:42 So sometimes they say maybe like mm enough . Used
25:47 in sort of interesting ways . So please be careful
25:51 of how you use enough enough is used to talk
25:54 about matching a requirement . It's also common to see
25:59 enough in requests and questions too . So here's a
26:04 request in this case . I used it with accountable
26:07 now . You can do this . You can use
26:09 it with countable noun . Uncountable now . So for
26:12 example , please buy enough snacks for everyone at the
26:16 party . Please buy enough snacks for everyone at the
26:18 party . What does this mean ? Make sure to
26:21 meet the requirement or the need . So I say
26:25 to someone else , Please buy enough snacks for everyone
26:28 at the party . That means please make sure you
26:32 buy snacks . You buy so many snacks that everyone
26:35 can eat . You are matching the needs of our
26:37 situation . Okay . All right , good . Some
26:41 examples are coming in . That is enough . Water
26:45 says bright moon . Good . I have enough clothes
26:47 to wear good . Okay , Miguel , we don't
26:50 have enough money . Good , jan Tony . I
26:52 don't have enough meal . Maybe I don't have enough
26:54 food in my fridge . We would say . Usually
26:57 I don't have enough time . Good , nice examples
27:01 . Everyone . Okay , look , looks good ,
27:03 looks really , really good . Okay . Oh ,
27:06 Giancarlo says can we use sufficient ? Yes . Uh
27:10 , sufficient is not used as much in everyday conversation
27:16 , sufficient is used in more business polite or um
27:22 like formal documents for example , like we did not
27:26 have sufficient time to prepare the report . That sounds
27:29 much more formal . We don't use it so much
27:32 in everyday conversation . Yes . Okay . Good .
27:36 Okay . I don't see other questions . Let's go
27:39 to the last point for today very quickly . I
27:42 want to review any . I didn't talk about any
27:46 at the beginning of today's lesson . Uh so let's
27:48 cover it here . Any what ? Uh any .
27:52 We use any in questions and we use any negative
27:57 sentences . For example , do we have any milk
28:01 ? Do we have any milk ? Sometimes I see
28:03 learners go , do we have some milk ? Mm
28:06 Make sure to use any when you're asking questions like
28:10 this , Do we have any uh some not some
28:14 . And when you want to talk about having zero
28:18 of something , we don't have any snacks . This
28:23 sentence is okay too . We don't have snacks .
28:26 This one sounds more like we have zero of snacks
28:29 . Oh no , we don't have any snacks .
28:33 Okay . So make sure you use them in these
28:36 two situations . Using questions using negative sentences . I'm
28:41 not going to talk about this point a lot today
28:43 because I have a video on the english class one
28:46 A one Youtube maybe on facebook and our website I
28:50 talked about any and some and quantify there's so many
28:54 points . Maybe I'll put I'll put some links uh
28:57 in the Youtube description after this lesson . So if
29:00 you want to review uh some of today's points ,
29:04 you can check those links . So please have a
29:06 look at the Youtube description when this lesson ends .
29:09 Okay , good . Some of you are sending questions
29:12 with any , some people say do you have any
29:14 questions for me ? Do you have any idea what
29:16 time you'll be there ? Very nice example , Is
29:19 there any food says Oop are very nice ? Uh
29:24 You see the sunset , I don't have any money
29:26 . Good . Uh bobby says do we have any
29:28 money ? Great . Your any questions are really good
29:32 . Really good . Um Eduardo . Good question .
29:35 Can we change any for no ? Uh So for
29:39 example , like in this sentence uh we don't have
29:43 any snacks , we cannot do it directly . You
29:48 can't say we don't have no snacks . Some ways
29:52 of speaking english use that , Yes . Uh but
29:56 you might hear more commonly , we have no snacks
30:00 . We have no snacks , so no double negative
30:03 . They're more common is we have no snacks .
30:06 Yeah . Okay . Okay . Uh wow . Some
30:10 good examples are coming in . All right , Everybody
30:13 is really good with any . That's awesome . That's
30:17 awesome . Okay . But I have to finish .
30:19 I don't have any more time left , so I
30:22 have to say goodbye to you . If you would
30:25 like to take a picture of today's lesson board .
30:27 Here you go . But that is what we talked
30:30 about today . A countable and uncountable noun . A
30:33 few few . A little little enough and any and
30:38 yeah , after this lesson , I will add some
30:41 links to the Youtube description so you can check and
30:44 review okay if you miss any of this , check
30:47 the lesson recording . It was super fun . Okay
