LET'S SOLVE SOME PROBLEMS TOGETHER!

In this workshop we will share the ways we integrated literacy into mathematical problem-solving in our school. We recognized a recurring need through our data school-wide to find a more effective approach to build student’s problem-solving skills. We researched and learned that when you link the components of effective literacy instruction (including activating/using background knowledge, making connections, predictions and visualizing) and have students create the problems to solve with approaches like 3 Act Tasks, problem solving skills are strengthened and learning experiences become more authentic, engaging and accessible. During this workshop, participants will learn the research related to our work, see examples of professional development for staff and actively practice some student-created problems together!
