Michael Jordan

Brooklyn is a poor neighborhood in New York.  Many children born and raised there,  never leave the area, but this is certainly not true for one baby boy born on February 7, 1963.  Michael Jordan has enjoyed an incredible career filled with much success.  While Michael Jordan started playing basketball in high school, most people know him from his time playing in the NBA (National Basketball Association).  Jordan played a total of fifteen seasons in the NBA.  His time was spent playing for two teams – the Washington Wizards and the Chicago Bulls.

Before being drafted into the NBA, Jordan attended the University of North Carolina.  He played college basketball there.  “Air Jordan” and “His Airness” were born after he joined the Chicago Bulls in 1984.  These nicknames came as a result of his incredible athletic abilities.  His moves on the court left fans, coaches, and team members alike speechless

Seven years after joining the NBA, Jordan and his team won the NBA championship.  The Chicago Bulls, along with Michael Jordan, completed this success again in 1992 and 1993.  Following this, Jordan retired from basketball, but he did not stay away very long.  After a quick attempt at playing professional baseball, Jordan returned to his first love – basketball.

From 1996 – 1998, Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls.  During this time, the team earned three additional championships.  In 1999, Jordan retired again.  His love for the game was just too strong.  After three years away off the court, he rejoined the NBA and played for the Washington Wizards.

This incredible athlete won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award five times.  He was a member of fourteen NBA All-Star teams.  During his career, he averaged 33.45 points per game.  In 2009, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Following his retirement, Jordan did not stray far from the world of basketball.  He is the majority owner of a Charlotte, North Carolina NBA team.  He has held this position since 2010.  As the owner of the Charlotte Wizards, Jordan remains an active part of the NBA.
