Once upon a time, there were two friends Bob and Willy. Bob worked very hard whereas Willy would sit under a shady tree, wasting his time. Bob had one son, and one daughter and Willy had two sons. Every year Bob would go on a Holiday for two weeks to the different places along with his family. Before going, he would put all his treasures, jewelry, and precious articles from his house, in two big sacks and keep them in his friend Willy ‘s house and take them back on his return.

That year too Bob had gone away for a month. As soon as he returned, he went to Willy’s house. He told him all about his travels, his adventures and the way he and his family enjoyed their trip. He also gave Willy some gifts which he had bought for him. Willy took the gifts and thanked him. After some time Bob got up to go, he asked Willy for his sacks.

Willy suddenly looked very sad. He bent his head and said, “Something terrible has happened, my friend.” “What happened?” asked Bob anxiously. “I do not know how white ants got into the room where your sacks were kept. They ate up everything.”

Bob was shocked, but he didn’t say anything. He knew that his friend wanted to cheat him. But he didn’t let Willy know his feelings. He said, “White ants can be horrible at times. They eat up everything - even gold and silver! Well... I shall go now. I have to purchase something from the shop.”

Willy was very happy. He couldn’t believe his luck, “Ha! Ha!” He laughed. “That fool, he believed me, it was so easy tricking him. How can white ants eat up gold and silver? Now I’ll be a rich man!”

Next morning Bob went to Willy’s house and invited him for lunch, “My friend,” he said, “My wife is preparing some delicious lunch. So why don’t you and your family come over? I’ll take the children with me you can come slowly.”

Willy sent his two children with Bob. Meanwhile, Bob sent both the children to his father-in-law’s house. When Willy reached Bob’s house, he found him sitting on the doorstep and crying loudly. Willy asked him, “Friend what happened? Why are you crying?” Bob looked at his friend and said, “Oh Willy when I was coming back to my house with your two children, big flies swooped down on us. They carried away your children.

“What nonsense,” shouted Willy, “How can flies carry away my children? Do you think I’m a fool?”

Then Bob looked at him and said, “Why don’t you believe me? Didn’t I believe you when you said that white ants ate up my sacks? Let’s go to the court. The Judge will decide.”

Willy understood that Bob was not a fool after all. He quietly went home and brought the sacks which he handed over to Bob. Bob too handed over his children to him. But they were no longer friends…
