New Jersey Releases 15-16 school year PARCC Scores!

report

The second year of PARCC testing results have been released by the New Jersey Department of Education. PARCC testing was administered for grades 3-11 in Math and ELA. The results were positive with many schools showing improvement on the previous year’s scores. However, a few schools and districts slipped at the high school level, and elementary Math.

This is the second year of computerized testing in New Jersey. The test is more rigorous than the previous one administered by the state. With that being said, scores that were released are quite lower than what parents and the communities are used to seeing for the children.

The state uses a 1-5 scale to rate the student’s achievements with 5 being the best score possible. Let’s look at the scale that New Jersey uses and what it means for the students.

  • Level 1: Not Yet Meeting Requirements
  • Level 2: Partially Meeting
  • Level 3: Approaching Expectations
  • Level 4: Meeting Expectations
  • Level 5: Exceeding Expectations
  • The goal for students is to be ranked a level 4 or 5 to be considered proficient on the PARCC assessments. Level 1 and 2 indicate that the student is below level, and needs improvement before being deemed proficient.

New Jersey like other states is getting used to this new testing, In considering validating test results, it must be realized that there will be ups and downs in the data reporting. New Jersey students overall are seeing improvements in most areas. As the schools continue to take the assessments more and more the students will become accustomed to the format and questions types.
