Multiplying Fractions Part 1a

By MuchoMath

In this video they show how to multiply fractions in this part they are also using a number line so there is a visual representation. They start with a fraction and multiply by a whole number they show the repeated addition then show it on the number line then they show it as a multiplication problem. They do many more examples. Video is good quality and good for all students as review or initial learning of the concept.

This video takes us through some more advanced unit conversion problems. Here, we can see how to make multiple conversions in the same problem concerning speed. Take particular note of how the units change in each step. More importantly, note how, step by step, our units slowly change into the units we want for our final answer. If you are having trouble understanding why this happens, go to the key concept described at 2:20 in the video. Note that this only occurs when multiplying two quantities, not when adding them!

Math Basics: Division

By GCFLearnFree.org

http://www.gcflearnfree.org/math Do you need help with basic math like subtraction multiplication division fractions times tables and percents? Our basic math tutorials and learning interactives make learning math easier and allow you to practice basic math skills at your own level and pace. Do you need to learn or practice the basic math skills of multiplication and division? How about some help with multiplication tables? The tips and techniques provided in this basic math tutorial make calculating multiplication and division simple easy and fun. What comes after multiplication in math? Division. Division is the opposite of multiplication. Instead of combining groups many times (like you do when you multiply) when you divide numbers you are splitting them into smaller equal groups. But you won't always have equal groups when you are dividing numbers or items -- sometimes you may have items left over. What do you do then? This lesson will help you figure that out by: • explaining the concept of dividing numbers • giving you division practice • helping you divide numbers that have remainders • showing you how to check your division If you are interested in learning more about this topic please visit our site to view the entire tutorial on our website. It includes instructional text informational graphics examples and even interactives for you to practice and apply what you've learned.

Learn multiplication tables in a structured manner (grade 3 math) - very effective!

By Math Mammoth

This method (I call it a structured drill) allows children to learn the multiplication tables in grade 3 or 4 faster and much more effectively than random drilling!

My book Math Mammoth Multiplication 1 at http://www.mathmammoth.com/multiplica... uses this method also. The book covers both the concept of multiplication and the practice of all the tables. It is available both as an instant download and as printed copy.

See a free example lesson from the book:
http://www.mathmammoth.com/preview/Mu...

In the video, I use the table of 3 as an example and go through this three-step method.

In the first step, children memorize the skip-counting list. For the table of 3 this is: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36. They also practice saying it backwards, from 36 to 3.

In the second step, we work with the table itself, but it is written in order so the child can see its structure. The " randomness " comes from me (the teacher) pointing to various problems in a random order. I also like to point out certain benchmark facts to students: 10 x 3 is 30 and 5 x 3 = 15 are such facts because they're in the 10s table and in the 5s table, which the children probably have learned first.

We also practice the tables " backwards " where the " answers " are written and the student tells how many times 3 they are. For example, I point to ___ x 3 = 24, and the child is supposed to say " 8 " . This type of practice makes children learn basic division facts at the same time without realizing it! This really helps third grade students because division is also a topic for third grade math.

For example, to solve 42 / 6, think how many times 6 makes 42 (in your six times table).

By Front Row

Discover more Common Core Math at https://www.frontrowed.comApply properties of operations as strategies to divide.2 Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 × 5 × 2 can be found by 3 × 5 = 15, then 15 × 2 = 30, or by 5 × 2 = 10, then 3 × 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 × 5 = 40 and 8 × 2 = 16, one can find 8 × 7 as 8 × (5 2) = (8 × 5) (8 × 2) = 40 16 = 56.
