04:03 a screenshot , please get ready . This will be
04:05 your first chance to take a screenshot of the topics
04:09 I'm going to talk about today . As I said
04:11 , today will be very good for beginners . So
04:14 here's what we're gonna do . We're going to talk
04:16 about simple past tense , present , perfect continuous .
04:20 And then these grammar points with yet three key points
04:25 for today's lesson . And I'm going to focus a
04:28 lot on using example sentences . After I introduced the
04:33 key grammar , we're going to just practice lots and
04:36 lots of sentences because there are many different goals and
04:39 I know many different um people have different uh daily
04:43 activities so please feel free to send to your example
04:46 sentences live . I will try to check . Okay
04:50 . Alright , okay , okay , let's get started
04:53 . So let's begin with simple past tense . Simple
04:59 past tense . What is simple past tense ? Okay
05:03 , I'm going to very quickly introduce this grammar point
05:06 if you want to know more . I have made
05:09 a video on the english class one on one Youtube
05:11 channel All about simple past tense . So let's review
05:16 and then let's practice . Send some example sentences with
05:19 simple past tense . Yeah . All right . So
05:21 what is simple past tense ? We use simple past
05:24 tense for an action that started said Cosmo an action
05:29 that started and ended in the past at a specific
05:34 point in time . An action that started and ended
05:38 in the past at a specific point in time .
05:41 Imagine this on a timeline , here's the past .
05:45 The star is now this present moment and into the
05:48 future . So imagine this blue checkmark is where the
05:52 action started . The X . Is where the action
05:56 ended . So the start and the end are in
05:59 the past before now . Okay so this part how
06:06 do we make a pattern for today's lesson ? Let's
06:10 make it very simple I past tense verb phrase plus
06:16 a point in time . I past tense verb phrase
06:20 plus a point in time . What you can change
06:25 this I you can change the subject to he or
06:28 she or it Of course for today's lesson we're talking
06:32 about sharing progress and giving updates like about your work
06:38 or about your studies , about your project , something
06:41 like that . So I'm going to focus today on
06:44 using I but of course you can change the subject
06:49 . Okay We use the past tense verb phrase by
06:52 this . I mean we use some a group of
06:56 words here . Sometimes just one word is okay .
06:59 Sometimes we need a few words but we need to
07:03 change the verb to past tents past tense . So
07:07 to do this for a regular verb , add E
07:11 . D . To the end of the verb .
07:13 For irregular verbs , we need to memorize the past
07:17 tense form finally here in parentheses , these marks .
07:22 These are called parentheses . Here we have a point
07:26 in time . So this means when did the action
07:30 happen ? When did the action finish ? Really ?
07:34 Okay for example I finished that yesterday . I finished
07:41 that yesterday finished right here E . D . This
07:46 makes it past denso finish becomes finished in past tense
07:52 . I finished that yesterday so we use this and
07:57 that to refer to the topic of conversation . Okay
08:02 , so a project did you finish it ? Yeah
08:05 , I finished that yesterday . I finished that yesterday
08:09 . Okay , here's my point in time . Yesterday
08:13 . When did the action finished yesterday ? Another example
08:17 . I sent that email last night . I sent
08:21 that email last night sent is an irregular verb .
08:26 So we need to change , send passed to past
08:30 tense . We make sent , sent , I sent
08:33 that email last night . So super super basic ,
08:37 simple past tense expression . I sent that email last
08:40 night . Okay . Some of your examples are coming
08:43 in . Uh Sir Abdelmajed . Did I hope I
08:46 said that I eat a scrambled eggs yesterday close but
08:50 no Eat change your verb to past tense . I
08:54 ate , I ate eggs yesterday . eight Cesar are
08:59 Cesar on Facebook says I finished my homework last weekend
09:03 . Perfect . Nice one , finished my homework last
09:06 weekend . Uh F says I went out for a
09:09 cup of tea this afternoon . Perfect . I went
09:12 out for a cup of tea this afternoon . Many
09:15 of you are writing . I finished my homework .
09:16 I finished my homework . Great . Uh Rachael says
09:19 I bought a new dress last week . Perfect .
09:21 Nice examples , Everybody good . Then don't forget your
09:26 negative form , the negative form here to make the
09:30 negative form use didn't , which is the reduced form
09:34 of did not did not . So I didn't plus
09:39 the base verb . So please please please please please
09:42 remember in the negative form , the verb does not
09:46 change , this verb does not change . You do
09:48 not need to use the past tense verb in this
09:51 part of the sentence . You do need to do
09:54 in a positive sentence . Negative no change to the
09:57 verge . For example , I didn't watch the video
10:02 . I didn't watch the video or I didn't go
10:05 to the meeting . I didn't go to the meeting
10:08 . So no change to this verb go and no
10:11 change to this verb . Watch . I didn't watch
10:14 the video . I didn't go to the meeting .
10:17 All right . So don't forget your negative point .
10:21 That's why Kaitlin Young says I didn't exercise enough .
10:25 Very relatable . Okay . Gerente says I played football
10:29 yesterday . Good Reginaldo says I went to bed early
10:32 yesterday . Nice one . Adrian says , I wrote
10:35 that letter last Friday . Good Perimeter says I went
10:39 to market yesterday . Okay , that's nice . Jimmy
10:42 . That's live . Yes , it's live every week
10:45 is live . Okay , lose writes in all caps
10:48 lose . Vanessa says I didn't buy cake . Very
10:51 nice . Very nice example sentence Okay , great job
10:56 . Everybody is crushing it . Great job with simple
10:59 past tense sounds fantastic . Okay , we have good
11:04 example sentences . Oh Miller says I ate crab yesterday
11:07 at dinner . Nice , nice . Okay , good
11:10 past tense . You guys rock with past tense .
11:13 Very nice . Okay , so we'll take a quick
11:15 break and then we'll go to the more challenging grammar
11:17 point present , perfect continuous one of the All time
11:22 favorites . Right , Okay , so quickly a short
11:25 break and then we'll go to part two if you
11:28 missed it earlier . I shared uh some free pdf
11:32 so that you can get from the link below the
11:35 video if you're watching on Youtube or above the video
11:38 . If you are watching on facebook , there are
11:41 many different topics . If you like cooking , check
11:44 this one out . This is the cooking one .
11:46 There's vocabulary for your kitchen so you can print this
11:49 out and like stick it on the wall in your
11:51 kitchen or put this on your refrigerator on the back
11:55 . Are he vocabulary words for cooking ? So that's
11:59 the idea with all of these . If you have
12:01 not checked them out , you can take a look
12:04 , pick something that's related to your hobbies who ,
12:07 Here's another food one , this is dining . I
12:10 know , I know it's hard to go to restaurants
12:13 right now On the back there's a bunch of food
12:15 vocabulary . So check these out . They are all
12:19 for free . So it's easy to get them .
12:21 You can find these from link below the video .
12:23 If you're watching on youtube , above the video on
12:26 facebook , check it out . All right , okay
12:28 , so let's go to part two then for today's
12:31 lesson , Part two uh is about present . Perfect
12:35 continuous . I'm going to focus on present . Perfect
12:38 continuous for part two . Very , very , very
12:41 , very quickly . If you want to take a
12:42 screenshot of today's lesson boards go , we're going to
12:46 talk now about present . Perfect continuous . What is
12:50 the deal with that grammar point ? Okay , so
12:53 let's take a look . Um also if you have
12:55 not , please make sure to hit the like button
12:57 on this video so other people can find the lesson
13:00 and share . Of course that would be super super
13:02 cool . So let's take a look . Uh present
13:06 , perfect continuous , present , perfect continuous . What
13:11 is going on with this grammar point ? Okay ,
13:14 so present , perfect continuous in blue , we use
13:18 present perfect continuous to talk about or to express an
13:23 action that started in the past and is continuing now
13:29 . So it's continuing in the present and it's going
13:32 to continue in the future . So we really want
13:37 to emphasize the continuing nature of the action . So
13:42 people ask a lot like what's the difference between present
13:45 , perfect and present ? Perfect , continuous . And
13:48 this is one of them . Like you really want
13:50 to emphasize that continuing action . So if you want
13:56 to see this , if you want to try to
13:58 understand with an image visually imagine past now in the
14:04 future , here's our timeline going to the future .
14:06 Imagine the action started here at this blue checkmark ,
14:11 it continued in the past and now at the conversation
14:15 it's still continuing and it's going to continue in the
14:19 future too . So we want to emphasize or stress
14:23 the continuing action . So let's practice this pattern today
14:29 . I have been plus and I . M .
14:34 G verb so eating , teaching , listening , sitting
14:39 walking and so on . I have been I N
14:42 . G verb four or since four or since .
14:46 Again I'm not going to talk in detail about this
14:50 grammar point . There is a video on the english
14:52 class one oh one channel . I made all about
14:55 present , perfect tense . You can take a look
14:58 at that to review Remember four and since four and
15:02 since we use four before a length of time .
15:07 Since before a specific point in time . Yeah .
15:11 Okay . So let's look at some examples and send
15:14 me yours . Okay . So for example , I've
15:18 been working on this for six months . I have
15:22 been working on this for six months here . I've
15:25 reduced I've reduced yeah , I've is the reduced form
15:30 the short form of I have I have please when
15:33 you are speaking , pronounced this V very clearly I've
15:38 I've I've been working on this so on this meeting
15:42 on this project for six months . Okay . Four
15:47 , six months . Another point many learners make a
15:51 mistake with , Is this right here ? This ?
15:53 S not six months . Six months is incorrect .
15:57 Six months . Six months . Okay . Another one
16:01 I've been thinking about this for a year . I've
16:04 been thinking about this for a year . So one
16:09 year in this case there should be no s because
16:14 the number here is just one . I've been thinking
16:16 about this for a year . Finally , I've been
16:21 planning this project since december . I've been planning this
16:26 project since december . Okay , So let's look at
16:30 some of the , some of the examples you are
16:32 sending me , Reginaldo says I've been working from home
16:36 since March of 2020 . Very nice . I've been
16:39 working from home since March of 20 uh maori uh
16:43 Lizana . I hope I said that right on Youtube
16:46 says is it okay to use for a while ?
16:48 Yes . Yes , for example , I've been working
16:51 on this for a while for a while for a
16:54 while is just like , it really depends on the
16:57 time . Like there's no clear time for a while
17:01 . Just means for a time . It's not specific
17:05 . Great job sites are on facebook says I have
17:08 been working at the factory for one year . Very
17:11 nice example . Uh , German I have been watching
17:15 this live video . Okay , good . How long
17:17 ? I've been watching this live video for 19 minutes
17:20 or so . Good . Okay . Uh , a
17:24 negative Ballarat . Um , Nice . Try with the
17:26 negative . I haven't been watching nothing very close .
17:29 I haven't been watching anything , anything used that any
17:35 in your negative sentence . Okay . No . Horace
17:37 says I've been attending your classes , not attending to
17:40 . I've been attending your classes since october Very nice
17:45 . Luciano says I've been eating since the morning .
17:48 Very nice example of everybody on Facebook . Uh ,
17:51 well , Salma says I have been working for 70
17:54 years at the hospital . Wow , that's amazing ,
17:58 wow , that's incredible . Salma . Okay . Um
18:02 tree funny says I've been living in this house since
18:05 92 . Great and nice example , if you want
18:09 to use a year , you don't have to say
18:12 1992 or 1997 . It's very common to use just
18:17 the last part 97 or 92 . Great example .
18:22 Nice ones . Okay . Um Oh my gosh ,
18:26 ls says I've been waiting for him since two weeks
18:29 ago . Very nice examples . Very nice examples .
18:33 Uh Ai says I've been studying english for many years
18:37 . Great . Alright , you are doing awesome with
18:40 this grammar points also . Fantastic . Everyone is sending
18:44 nice example sentences . Hahn's Allah says I have been
18:47 living in Pakistan since 2002 . Perfect , perfect .
18:52 I've been studying english for one year . I've been
18:54 studying for seven years . Many people are sending their
18:57 english study experience too . That's nice . Okay ,
19:00 nice . Everybody's sentences are awesome . So I think
19:06 you've got this grammar point . I think you've got
19:08 it . So we'll put this down and we'll go
19:11 to the last grammar point . How to use yet
19:15 . How to use yet . Fantastic . Nice job
19:17 . Everybody . Okay . Uh so one more super
19:20 quick break and then we'll practice using yet to practice
19:23 using yet . So again , if you missed it
19:25 before , just check out the link below or above
19:28 the video to get free pdf , you can download
19:32 to practice your vocabulary . I'm into food today .
19:37 I guess I I want to show you the food
19:38 ones a lot . So I'll try to find something
19:40 different . Here's one you can practice for someday in
19:44 the future visiting the airport traveling again . You never
19:48 know . We might be , we might be moving
19:50 again soon in a few months hopefully . Who knows
19:54 ? Okay , so let's go to part three for
19:57 today . I'll show you today's lesson boards again if
20:01 you want to take a really quick picture , get
20:03 ready . Go . Ok . So we talked about
20:07 present . Perfect continuous . Now we're going to talk
20:09 about yet . How do we use yet to talk
20:13 about our progress to share our updates . Let's take
20:17 a look . Also , don't forget to like this
20:19 video . It will help other people find the lesson
20:22 . That would be super cool . Okay , if
20:25 you you're going quick today , your example sentences sound
20:29 good . Okay , now let's take a look at
20:32 this point yet . How do we use yet ?
20:37 I see it . Okay , let's let's let's do
20:40 this first and then we'll talk about some details yet
20:43 . We use the word yet to express action .
20:50 An action that is not complete , not complete ,
20:55 but that is expected to be completed . So something
21:01 it's not finished . I did not finish this action
21:05 but there's an expectation I'm going to finish the action
21:10 . So that's a key with this grammar point .
21:13 There's some expectation something is going to happen in the
21:17 future with yet use yet in a negative sentence pattern
21:25 . So have some examples of this . What do
21:27 I mean here ? Okay , here's the pattern .
21:30 I'm like , I want to focus on today .
21:35 I haven't past participle verb phrase yet . I haven't
21:43 past participle verb phrase yet . I'm not going to
21:46 talk about the past participle form of the verb .
21:49 You can google a list to study for today .
21:53 I want to focus on using yet at the end
21:56 of a sentence . Yes , you can use yet
21:58 in different uh in a different spot in the sentence
22:02 today . Let's focus on using it at the end
22:04 of the sentence . For example . I haven't eaten
22:09 lunch yet , I haven't eaten lunch yet . So
22:13 lots of people ask what's the difference ? So can
22:16 I use it without yet ? I haven't eaten lunch
22:18 . Yes , this is also correct . What's the
22:21 difference ? I haven't eaten lunch is a simple fact
22:24 . That's it . Just neutral . I haven't eaten
22:28 lunch yet , expresses an expectation . So I expect
22:34 I'm going to eat lunch today sometime when maybe I
22:38 don't know but I want to express that expectation I
22:43 use yet to do that . I haven't eaten lunch
22:46 yet . I'm going to in one hour . Another
22:50 example . I haven't sent that email yet . I
22:53 haven't sent that email yet . Again , this is
22:56 totally correct . I haven't sent that email . I
22:59 haven't sent that email . Totally correct . A simple
23:02 neutral statement effect . I haven't sent that email yet
23:07 , communicates the idea of an expectation . Haven't sent
23:11 that email yet . I'm going to but I was
23:14 super busy this morning . So this is a really
23:17 good way when you're giving a progress update to tell
23:22 the listener to tell the other person or in writing
23:25 as well . Using yet is a small important hint
23:30 right ? It shows you know there's an expectation .
23:34 So this is one of those words you can use
23:37 to really communicate effectively and efficiently with the other person
23:43 . Another one I haven't finished my homework yet .
23:46 I haven't finished my homework yet . Okay , so
23:50 again , all of these years haven't haven't haven't you
23:53 can use have not . I have not finished my
23:56 homework yet . I have not sent that email yet
23:59 . All of those are fine but if you use
24:02 have not it sounds kind of stiff . Try to
24:05 use this this form . I haven't finished my homework
24:08 yet . More natural . Okay then one more I
24:13 wanted to include this pattern . It's very , very
24:16 helpful . I haven't had a chance to infinitive verb
24:22 yet . I haven't had a chance to something yet
24:26 . What does this mean ? So this is when
24:28 we use on a busy day , uh , if
24:32 you work in an office or if you study uh
24:35 , in like a school where you see your coworkers
24:38 or your classmates and you share tasks or you share
24:42 information like that and someone asks you , oh have
24:46 you sent that email ? You can say I haven't
24:49 had a chance to send the email yet . So
24:55 what's the difference between I haven't had a chance to
24:58 send the email yet and I haven't sent that email
25:01 yet . This haven't had a chance means I have
25:07 been so busy this morning or I have been so
25:11 busy today . I today I had no chance yet
25:16 to do that action . So this communicates that you're
25:20 really , really busy with something . This does not
25:24 have that same feeling . Just , oh , I
25:27 haven't done it yet . That's all This sounds like
25:29 you're super busy , so just use whatever verb the
25:34 verb you need here . I haven't had a chance
25:36 to eat lunch yet . I've been so busy .
