00:0-1 Good day and welcome to Tech mouth channel of josh
00:02 . In this video , we're looking at how to
00:04 work out questions involving fuel consumption . Now I'm going
00:07 to give you a quick explanation about what fuel consumption
00:09 is fuel consumption is , the amount of petrol or
00:12 gas your vehicle users to drive a given distance .
00:15 And it can be measured in a number of different
00:17 ways . We can measure it in terms of the
00:20 number of kilometers you could drive with one liter of
00:23 petrol , the kilometers per liter . We can also
00:25 look at the number of leaders you would use to
00:28 drive 100 kilometers . That is the leaders per 100
00:31 kilometers . We could also use the number of miles
00:35 that you could go per gallon MPG and you're going
00:39 to notice for each of these that we actually have
00:42 a formula that we've written out to . We have
00:43 kilometers divided by the number of leaders and leaders divided
00:47 by the number of 100 kilometers and the MPG ,
00:50 which means miles divided by the number of gallons .
00:53 And we're going to be using these to work out
00:55 a lot of the things to do with fuel consumption
00:57 . It makes things really , really simple . So
01:00 what about our launch into the first question ? So
01:02 for our first question , a car uses 290 litres
01:05 of petrol to drive 1300 kilometers . What is its
01:09 fuel consumption ? So there's two different ways that we
01:12 can measure fuel consumption using these particular figures . The
01:15 first one we can measure fuel consumption is we could
01:17 say , what is the number of kilometers that we
01:20 travel per liter ? Okay , the kilometers per liter
01:24 . The other thing we could do is we can
01:26 also say how many liters are we using her ?
01:29 100 km ? So we're going to work out both
01:33 of these , but you might have to specifically work
01:35 one out when you were doing this . So we're
01:37 just going to treat each of our units here as
01:40 a formula . So we have the kilometers divided by
01:42 the number of leaders . The number of kilometers we
01:44 have is 1300 km and this is going to be
01:49 divided by the number of leaders This much here .
01:53 290 leaders , nice and easy . Pretty easy calculation
01:58 to work out . Okay , and that's going to
02:00 be 4.5 kilometers per liter . All right , that's
02:06 the first way as you can see , I just
02:09 followed this particular thing kilometers divided by leaders kilometers per
02:12 liter . The next one is liters per 100 kilometers
02:15 . So let's work this out . We have 290
02:18 leaders . So let's put that on 1st 290 leaders
02:22 and this is going to be divided by The number
02:25 of 100 km as you can see , this is
02:27 per 100 km . So in 1300 km , how
02:31 many 100 kilometers do we have ? So 1300 provided
02:34 by 100 where this can divide that by 13 and
02:38 we'll get our answer . So 290 divided by 13
02:44 , this is going to be 22 0.3 leaders per
02:49 100 kilometers . And that's the way that you can
02:51 work out of fuel consumption . Really easy . So
02:54 I'm going to look at these now in terms of
02:56 MPG . So let's look at this question here .
02:58 A car uses 43 gallons of petrol to drive .
03:01 1250 miles . What is its fuel consumption ? We've
03:05 got miles , we're using gallons cr fuel consumption is
03:08 going to be in MPG . Okay , And you
03:13 might think of this as being the per here as
03:16 actually being divided by . So you can actually see
03:18 this as the miles divided by the number of gallons
03:22 . So it's a nice and easy equation to work
03:25 out . Okay , so let's do this . First
03:27 off , we have the miles here , we have
03:29 1250 and that's going to be your miles and this
03:35 is going to be divided by the number of gallons
03:38 . We have 43 gallons here . All right ,
03:41 so what do we get when we work this out
03:43 ? 1250 divided by 43 . You're going to get
03:48 the answer of 29.1 MPG . As I said ,
03:53 nice and simple . Just treat the units that you're
03:56 working out as an equation as a formula and you're
03:59 going from there . Okay ? So let's have a
04:01 look at how then you may apply these once you
04:04 know , your fuel consumption . So this is how
04:08 you would go about applying these . A car has
04:10 a fuel consumption of 8.8 liters per 100 kilometers .
04:14 It drives 360 kilometers . How much fuel does it
04:17 use ? So you're going to see here that we
04:19 have a couple of things , we have the amount
04:22 of fuel or amount of petrol that were actually ,
04:25 we know for the fuel consumption . We also got
04:28 this part that we're trying to work out , they're
04:30 here , we have 100 kilometers here and we have
04:34 360 kilometers that we are traveling . So we're going
04:36 to be using these to work out proportionately how much
04:40 petrol we need . Okay , and this is how
04:42 we're going to do this . So we have 8.8
04:45 leaders and this is going to take us 100 kilometers
04:50 , But we don't want to go 100 km where
04:52 you want to go 360 km , which is a
04:55 little bit bigger and you might say to yourself ,
04:58 okay , how much bigger is it ? Because we
05:00 want to know then how much petrol we're going to
05:02 use , so how much bigger is 360 then 100
05:07 I'm talking proportionally . How much would you multiply 100
05:11 buyer to get 3 60 ? We can go 3
05:13 60 divided by 100 and work that out . So
05:16 this is going to be multiplied By 3.6 . So
05:20 we're going to be going 3.6 times as far we're
05:23 going to be using 3.6 times as much petrol ,
05:27 8.8 times 3.6 . We're going to have our answer
05:31 , this is going to be 31.7 lit of petrol
05:36 that we need . Okay , let's have a look
05:37 at this involving miles . A car has a fuel
05:40 consumption of 35 MPG . It drives 260 miles .
05:44 How much fuel does it use ? So as you
05:47 can see here , we have 35 miles and this
05:51 is with one gallon . We also know that we're
05:55 traveling 260 miles , but what we really want to
05:59 then find out is how much fuel do we use
06:02 is how many gallons do we need to do this
06:04 ? So let's write this all down . Here .
06:05 We are fuel consumption , which is 35 miles and
06:09 that is using one gallon of fuel . We are
06:14 driving 260 miles . And what we want to really
06:19 find out is how much fuel we're going to be
06:21 using to drive that far . So as you can
06:23 see we are getting proportionately bigger . What would you
06:27 multiply 35 by to get to 60 , 260 divided
06:32 by 35 . If we do that , we get
06:35 the answer of 7.4 . So we have to multiply
06:39 by 7.4 to get this answer here . So we're
06:42 going 7.4 times further than this . 35 miles we're
06:46 going to be using 7.4 times as much fuel .
06:51 One time 7.4 we'll have our answer . This is
06:55 7.4 gallons of gas that we would be using anyway
07:00 . Hopefully you like this video there . The major
07:02 types of questions you'll get when you get fuel consumption
07:05 questions and as long as you treat them like the
07:08 formula that you can see that they actually are there
07:10 fairly simple use logic , use common sense and you'll
07:14 be okay with it anyway . Hopefully like that video
