00:0-1 Okay , So every four years , there's this day
00:03 , you may have heard of it before . Maybe
00:04 not . It's called inauguration day , hmm , inauguration
00:10 day ? Well , the first question we have to
00:13 answer is what is inauguration day ? Well , inauguration
00:17 day is the day when the president of the United
00:20 States begins his or her term in office . A
00:26 presidential term lasts four years , meaning the President of
00:30 the United States serves the people for four years at
00:34 a time . And that is why inauguration day happens
00:38 every four years , no matter what . Mhm .
00:42 So what actually happens on inauguration day ? Well ,
00:47 there is a big ceremony that takes place in Washington
00:51 , D.C. , the capital of the United States .
00:54 It takes place on January 20 , unless if January
00:58 20 is a Sunday , then they moved the public
01:01 celebration to the following day January 21 . This happened
01:06 most recently in 2013 . President Barack Obama had his
01:12 second inauguration on monday january 21st . But usually the
01:17 inauguration is on january 20th . But where in Washington
01:22 , D . C . Is the ceremony itself Throughout
01:25 the history of the United States , The majority of
01:28 inaugurations have taken place at the US . Capitol Building
01:32 seen here . What an amazing building . And at
01:35 the time we are making this video . The inauguration
01:38 has happened at the US . Capitol Building every inauguration
01:43 day since 1945 . Speaking of 1945 that was the
01:50 year of the last inauguration of the 32nd President of
01:54 the United States . President franklin D Roosevelt , interesting
01:58 fact about him . Did you know president franklin ?
02:01 D Roosevelt had more inaugurations than any other U .
02:05 S . President . He had four inaugurations . The
02:09 reason for that is because franklin D Roosevelt was the
02:12 first and only president to ever serve more than two
02:16 terms . He served as president for four terms .
02:20 Which is why he had four inaugurations . His record
02:23 will never be broken either because now no president is
02:28 allowed to serve more than two terms . That's the
02:31 limit now from the now , this is really cool
02:37 . The greatest part of the ceremony is when the
02:41 president takes what is called the oath of office .
02:45 The oath of office is a serious promise the president
02:49 makes in front of the whole country . This often
02:53 happens around noon on inauguration day , the president makes
02:59 this promise . I do solemnly swear that I will
03:03 faithfully execute the office of the President of the United
03:07 States and will to the best of my ability preserve
03:12 , protect and defend the constitution of the United States
03:19 . After making these promises , the president usually makes
03:23 a speech called the inaugural address . This is a
03:27 chance for the president to share what he or she
03:30 plans to do during his or her presidential term and
03:35 let the people of our country know what the president's
03:38 vision is for the United States . The vice president
03:44 has an oath to take as well . Making promises
03:47 in front of the whole country . That's what makes
03:51 inauguration day so special . It is a day of
03:55 promises . The promise means I will be committed .
04:00 I will be here for the people of the United
04:03 States and follow the constitution , which is the highest
04:06 law in the land . Inauguration day is an important
04:11 day . A day of promises . On january 20th
04:14 . Unless it is a sunday . The President of
04:17 the United States and the Vice president of the United
04:20 States are sworn in , usually at the U .
04:23 S . Capitol building , making a commitment to this
04:26 country and the people who live in it . It
04:29 happens every four years and marks the beginning of a
04:33 president's term in office . No one can take the
04:36 office of the President of the United States without making
04:40 the promises of inauguration day . I know inauguration day
04:45 has a weird name . Let's be honest about that
04:47 . Okay , inauguration that's a strange word . But
04:51 inauguration day is an amazing occasion . If you have
04:55 the opportunity to watch an inauguration day ceremony , be
04:59 sure to do that . Watch the President of the
05:02 United States take the oath of office , making the
05:05 promises that he or she must follow in order to
05:09 serve the great people of this country . Listen to
05:12 the inaugural address . The speech that the president makes
05:16 inauguration day is an important time for the United States
05:21 . It happens every four years . So if you
05:23 miss it , hey , you could always wait for
05:26 years . That's a while . That's a while .
05:28 How old will you be then ? Wow . Or
05:32 you can just re watch it if you miss it
05:34 . Yeah . You know , you could always do
05:35 that too well if you are watching this on inauguration
05:40 day , happy inauguration day . If not happy whatever
05:44 day it is okay . And we hope you enjoyed
