02:56 sara . Hello , Devon Andrew . Welcome everybody .
02:59 Fantastic . Okay , everyone is here . Let's look
03:03 at our lesson boards for today . We have a
03:05 lot to cover . I planned a lot for today
03:08 . So let's look today . We're going to look
03:11 at all of this . We're going to talk about
03:14 how to use remember with J errands . Some grammar
03:19 today . Yes , we're going to talk about remember
03:22 and remember when and some basic patterns . We're going
03:26 to talk about using the word regret . This is
03:29 another key vocabulary word for today , regret . And
03:34 finally we're going to practice some perfect tense . I
03:37 wish I had or I wish I hadn't . Also
03:40 , I should have . So we have a lot
03:43 to talk about today . Let's get started . And
03:46 if you have questions during today's broadcast , please send
03:49 them in the chat . I will do my best
03:52 to respond to you uh , during the lesson .
03:56 But please know there are many messages coming . I
03:59 am going to share today's lesson and then get started
04:03 . All right . I think it's good . Okay
04:05 . I've shared it . Let's begin . First point
04:08 for today is about remember . So the first remember
04:14 reflection expression I want to talk about is using the
04:18 word remember remember . So a couple patterns to practice
04:23 today . First pattern is this one remember ? Plus
04:27 a noun phrase or a gerund . So you might
04:31 think what's a gerund ? A gerund is a verb
04:36 . We create a noun from . So we do
04:40 this by putting I N G at the end of
04:43 the verb . Yeah . That's called the Jared .
04:46 When we make a gerund . We can use a
04:49 verb in the place of a now . So this
04:52 is very very convenient . Let me shift my screen
04:55 quickly . Okay , so we can use a noun
04:59 phrase or a gerund after . Remember for example ,
05:04 remember that song from last year ? That song from
05:09 last year is a noun phrase . Remember that song
05:12 from last year or remember going to crowded concerts here
05:19 is a jarrett . Going , remember going to crowded
05:22 concerts . That's a jarrett . So we can use
05:26 Jared's in this pattern but we cannot use the infinitive
05:30 form here . We can't say remember to go to
05:33 crowded concerts . That's that doesn't work . We cannot
05:35 use that pattern . You can use this to talk
05:38 about people as well . So for example , remember
05:43 that funny guy in our english class here , That
05:48 funny guy in our english class is my noun phrase
05:51 . So this is a question . Remember instead you
05:56 can say do you remember something ? Oh people are
06:00 saying that the video is lagging . Let me see
06:02 what I can do . I will try some things
06:07 just a moment . I hope I can fix it
06:09 for you . It will improve . Let me see
06:12 . Okay , maybe now it's a little bit better
06:15 . Thanks for your comments . Okay , hopefully that's
06:17 better now . Okay , so continuing . Uh my
06:22 point here , you can use a full sentence here
06:26 . You can't say do you remember baba wa that's
06:29 fine . But in casual conversation we often say just
06:34 remember that phrase , I remember going to crowded concerts
06:39 . This is like more casual way to express the
06:43 Okay then I want to talk about this other pattern
06:48 . Remember when subject and past tense verb . This
06:54 is a pattern you can use to talk about uh
06:59 your past actions , your past action , something that
07:04 you did in the past or something your friend did
07:08 in the past . And you want , if you
07:10 want to express that specific action , you can use
07:14 this pattern with when or maybe you know the pattern
07:18 . Remember the time . You might know that to
07:21 remember the time , blah , blah , blah .
07:23 You can use that pattern as well . Okay ,
07:27 so let's look at some examples of this . Remember
07:32 when you ate that really spicy pepper ? Remember when
07:36 you ate that really spicy pepper ? Or remember when
07:40 we could travel or remember when the dog ran away
07:45 ? So these when sentences refer to like one action
07:51 or like one condition in the past without when it's
07:57 a noun phrase . That's the difference in grammar and
08:01 in meaning here . Okay , Cardiology says , remember
08:05 when we watched Game of Thrones together ? Good example
08:08 . Hello , everyone on facebook , everyone on facebook
08:11 is saying hello , Okay , so these are the
08:14 two patterns I want to talk about for remember now
08:18 . I want to just review quickly some basic past
08:22 tense comments . Uh , so I chose these because
08:26 these are very , very common , like reactions uh
08:30 , to these kinds of expressions . So first that
08:35 was , that was so point here . This that
08:40 some of you asked like should I use it or
08:42 should I use that when you're talking about like when
08:46 you're responding to someone's comment , Like remember that song
08:50 from last year . You can say , oh yeah
08:53 , that was good . That was a good song
08:55 . Oh yeah , I really liked that song .
08:57 You can use that , that do it where that
09:01 means that thing you're talking about or that person you're
09:05 talking about . So some very common adjectives you can
09:10 use . That was fun . That was funny .
09:15 That was great . That was awful . that was
09:18 bad , that was so good . Or that was
09:23 exhausting . So uh these are very common and just
09:28 quick expressions that you can use uh to respond to
09:34 like opinions like these john Anthony has a good one
09:39 . Remember when we watched Alicia streams from the studio
09:41 ? Yes I remember that too of course . Okay
09:46 other I don't see other questions . Uh some of
09:50 you are saying someone asked when do I have to
09:52 use the past tense verb ? When do I use
09:55 remember and remembered ? So for these these are questions
10:00 today we're I'm starting with a question pattern . You
10:03 want to ask someone else ? Do you remember ?
10:06 So in that case we do not change this verb
10:09 to past tense . You can say I remembered I
10:15 remembered something after you recall the information for example you're
10:22 on your computer . Ah What's my password with my
10:25 password ? I remembered it . I remembered it .
10:30 So it's finished . Yeah , that's when you use
10:33 past tense . Okay so uh last point here uh
10:38 some other past tense verbs that you can use to
10:42 respond to these kinds of comments are I loved that
10:48 , loved is the pronunciation here hated , hated that
10:53 , hated that . I enjoyed that . I couldn't
10:57 stand that . Or maybe I ate way too much
11:01 of that . So ate way too much of something
11:05 . For example like hey remember that cake we had
11:07 last night ? It was good wasn't it ? Like
11:10 Oh yeah I ate way too much . Way too
11:14 much means like much too much . Too much .
11:18 Okay . All right . I don't see any other
11:21 questions so let's continue on . So this will We
11:25 are part one for today . Now let's go on
11:28 to part two after a quick break . If you
11:31 missed it there is a 55 off discount for everybody
11:37 . The team says it is the biggest deal of
11:39 the year , so check it out if you want
11:41 to study with our lessons . If you want to
11:43 study with our materials , please check the link below
11:47 the video . If you're watching on Youtube or above
11:49 the video . If you're watching on facebook you can
11:52 get premium and premium plus plans on our website and
11:56 steady english . Okay john says what is the difference
12:01 between remember and remind to remind someone means to cause
12:07 someone else to remember . So like we would say
12:12 please remind me about the livestream , please remind me
12:17 meaning please like help me to remember about the live
12:22 stream so to remember means to recall information by yourself
12:28 . So to remind someone means to do that for
12:32 someone else to remind something . Alright onward , let's
12:38 look at our , our boards for the day .
12:39 If you missed it , you can take a screenshot
12:41 . Are you ready ? Here we go . Okay
12:43 , so lesson boards for today look like this so
12:45 much to talk about . Oh my gosh ! So
12:48 we talked about using remember now let's practice using regret
12:53 . Regret is a key word for today . We
12:56 have a lot to cover here . So let's go
13:00 . Also if you have not , please remember to
13:02 like and share this video so that other people can
13:05 find today's lesson will be super , super cool .
13:08 Okay onward , are you live says maru fool .
13:13 Yes , I am . Hello . Okay , let's
13:16 go to regret . How do we use the word
13:18 regret first ? What does regret mean ? If you
13:22 don't know the word regret means a sad feeling or
13:27 an unhappy feeling about the past . So some action
13:32 in the past or some condition in the past you
13:35 feel sad or unhappy about that . We call that
13:39 feeling . It's a noun , regret and we can
13:44 use this as a verb . So we are going
13:46 to practice using regret as a verb in part two
13:50 here . All right , let's go . I see
13:55 lots of questions that are different from today's topic .
13:58 If you have questions about something different from today's topic
14:02 , send them to me for ask Alicia . Yeah
14:04 . Okay , let's go . So , first I
14:06 regret gerund phrase . Remember Jared , we practiced in
14:10 part one Jaren czar . The noun plus I N
14:15 G . I'm sorry , the verb plus I N
14:17 . G . Going eating , sleeping . So I
14:21 regret something something I N . G . Use this
14:25 pattern when you are sad or you're unhappy about a
14:31 past action . For example , I regret eating so
14:37 much ice cream . I regret eating so much ice
14:40 cream . This means I ate too much ice cream
14:42 and now I feel bad about it . So maybe
14:45 you feel sick . I regret eating . This is
14:48 the gerund form , This is the Jared eating .
14:52 So not I regret eat not . I regret to
14:55 eat . I regret eating so much ice cream .
14:59 Okay , another example , I regret staying up so
15:04 late last night . I regret staying up so late
15:07 last night . So again Jaren form , staying up
15:13 when you have a brazel verb , like this one
15:16 , stay up to stay up . Uh You don't
15:19 need to change the preposition to this . I .
15:22 N . G . Form , use the I .
15:24 N . G . Form with the root verb here
15:26 . Yeah I regret staying up so late last night
15:29 . I stayed up too late , now I'm tired
15:31 , I regret that . Okay uh Taro says ,
15:35 do you ever say I regret having eaten so much
15:37 ice cream ? Yes , you can use that having
15:40 pattern . Um It will make your sentence sound a
15:43 little more formal or a little bit more polite .
15:46 We typically wouldn't use that in like an everyday conversation
15:50 with friends , but grammatically it's correct . Yeah .
15:53 Okay , good . Some examples are coming in fantastic
15:57 . Some people , Obama says , I regret not
15:59 buying that dress . Nice one . We're going to
16:01 talk about that , not pattern . Later , Good
16:03 job . I regret it . I regretted missing your
16:08 lesson Nanda . Try to use the gerund form .
16:11 Yeah , I regretted or maybe I regret missing your
16:15 lesson or maybe I regret it . No , sorry
16:18 . We use regret and past tenses , regret ,
16:21 regret , I regret something , something . Okay ,
16:24 Let's go uh to the next one . I regret
16:28 buying this expensive bag . I regret buying this expensive
16:32 bag . Okay , so I bought this expensive bag
16:36 . Uh I spent too much money . I regret
16:39 it . I regret it . Okay then , a
16:43 negative form . I don't regret . I don't regret
16:49 . Plus Gerin phrase . So here this makes a
16:52 negative . We use this to express . You do
16:56 not feel bad about a past action , but some
17:01 people might , some people might . So this one
17:04 is an interesting pattern . Some people might feel unhappy
17:08 about a situation or might be worried about a situation
17:12 , but you do not feel bad about it .
17:15 For example , I don't regret taking a long vacation
17:20 . I don't regret taking a long vacation again ,
17:23 Jared here not to take . I don't regret to
17:27 take is incorrect . I don't regret taking a long
17:30 vacation . Okay . Uh yeah . Some people are
17:34 writing with the infinitive for my first idea . I
17:36 regret uh to broom . Maybe you mean sweep to
17:41 sweep ? Is the verb I regret sweeping the floor
17:45 . Maybe my house is messy now , so ,
17:47 Okay , um D L . F . What is
17:50 the difference between regret and regretfully ? There are different
17:53 parts of speech . There are different parts of speech
17:56 . We cannot use them in the same parts of
17:58 the sentence . Someone says I don't regret watching this
18:01 video . Cool . Good good example sentence Diallo says
18:05 I regret maybe spending or sending too much money .
18:08 Good examples . Okay . Uh Horace says I regret
18:12 not speaking not speaking german fluently . Good example .
18:17 Um I regret jermaine , I regret not making business
18:22 deals . Make sure to use this I . N
18:24 . G . Form here . Yeah . Okay .
18:27 Um armored . I don't regret spending money on books
18:33 and education . I don't regret spending money on books
18:37 and education . So yes I'm spending money but it's
18:41 for books and education so I don't regret it .
18:44 I don't feel bad about . Okay good . Uh
18:49 Oh CIA's flores says I do not regret sleeping all
18:52 day . Okay good George , Anthony says I don't
18:55 regret buying a new computer . Nice good good good
18:59 . Uh First idea again I don't regret sweeping sweeping
19:04 . Not to broom to broom is not a verb
19:06 . That's not a verb . I don't regret sweeping
19:09 . Okay I don't regret sleeping late today . That's
19:13 another very common one . I don't regret sleeping late
19:15 today . So you do not feel bad about something
19:18 but some people might feel bad about it . Okay
19:22 let's go to the last pattern . The last one
19:25 is I regret not something something so keep in mind
19:29 this has not this pattern I do not regret and
19:34 I regret not . They are different though these have
19:38 different meanings . So please be careful . I regret
19:42 not something something I N . G . Means you
19:46 feel bad about an action , you did not do
19:52 something you did not do and now you feel bad
19:55 about it . For example I regret not exercising this
20:01 year . I regret not exercising this year so I
20:04 did not exercise or I exercise just a little now
20:08 . I feel bad . So I regret not exercising
20:12 this year . When Okay uhh I regret not talking
20:17 to you sooner . I regret not talking to you
20:21 sooner . This comparative form sooner means sooner than I
20:25 did earlier than I did . So . In other
20:29 words , I took a long time to talk to
20:32 you and I feel bad . Like I wish I
20:36 had spoken to you soon . We're going to talk
20:38 about that grammar in a moment . All right .
20:41 Uh Some other ones , Alan Jackson , sorry ,
20:47 says is it okay to say I have regret not
20:49 studying marketing close . I regret sorry , I regret
20:55 not studying marketing . I regret not studying marketing .
21:02 Okay , Isaac says I regret not taking this class
21:05 . Good . Uh Actually one of our members high
21:08 , I don't regret losing , I don't regret losing
21:12 bad things or I don't regret losing bad things or
21:15 I don't regret by I don't regret losing bad things
21:20 . So choose this pattern I don't regret . Plus
21:23 your Jaren the I . N . G . Form
21:25 there . I hope that helps you . Okay .
21:28 Uh did I say all of these ? No ?
21:31 Okay , I regret not saving money when I was
21:37 younger . I regret not saving money when I was
21:40 younger . So I did not save money when I
21:43 was younger and now I regret it . We can
21:46 express that with this pattern . I regret not saving
21:50 money . So this is how we use the word
21:53 regret as a verb as a verb . So all
21:57 of these patterns use regret as a verb . That
22:00 means I feel bad about something that happened or that
22:05 did not happen or I don't feel bad about it
22:08 . So as I said , we can use regret
22:11 as a noun . So uh you can someone might
22:14 say like uh he expressed regret , which means he
22:18 expressed that he felt bad about something , but it's
22:22 very common to use it as a verb . Someone
22:24 asked the question about the word regretfully . We might
22:28 use that at the beginning of a sentence uh to
22:31 mean I'm very , very sorry about this , but
22:35 bad news so regretfully . You might also see someone
22:39 says , I don't regret having kids get one handy
22:42 , okay ? Um Others you don't regret awakening in
22:48 the morning . Okay . Yeah , hopefully , hopefully
22:50 . Good . Uh Diana says I regret to talk
22:54 with my ex . Maybe I regret talking , so
22:59 we cannot use two plus a verb there . I
23:01 regret talking to my ex . Okay , I hope
23:05 that helps you . Alright ? Someone says I regret
23:07 not watching this life . You're watching it now .
23:10 Okay . All right . Someone says , how long
23:13 are you online ? 30 minutes every week , so
23:16 you can join every time . Okay , let's take
23:19 one more quick break and then we'll go to part
23:22 three . We'll review some perfect tense grammar . Everyone's
23:26 favorite . Okay , let's take a break . If
23:30 you miss it . There is a 55% off deal
23:33 from the link below the video . If you're watching

23:59 our lesson boards one more time . If you want
24:01 to take a screenshot , please get ready . Here
24:04 we go . Okay , boom . We talked about
24:08 remember how to use remember and remember when and some
24:11 past tense comments . We just finished regret talking about
24:15 regret . And last today's last point we are going
24:19 to talk about uh these two patterns I wish I
24:22 had , I should have , I wish I hadn't
24:25 and I shouldn't have all right onto the last part
24:29 . Then if you're just joining , please make sure
24:32 to like and share this video so that other people
24:35 can find today's lesson . That would be super cool
24:38 . We want lots of people to join . Okay
24:41 , onward . Let's go to part three . Oh
24:44 my gosh , I'm very pine . Okay , let's
24:48 go to the last part of today's lesson . I
24:52 have two patterns for each group . Here they are
24:57 . I saw someone asked earlier about how to use
24:59 had , here's an example . I wish I had
25:03 plus past participle verb or I should have past participle
25:08 verb . I'm not going to talk about past participle
25:11 verb today . Please use your google skills to find
25:15 this verb form . I want to talk about these
25:18 two . Both of these express regret , that sad
25:24 feeling about something that did not happen . So something
25:29 that did not happen . I wish I had or
25:33 I should have something something . What's the difference between
25:37 the two we use ? I wish I had typically
25:41 to when we're talking about a past action uh like
25:46 that's like how should I say there are two past
25:50 actions together . For example , I wish I had
25:54 studied a language when I was a kid . I
25:59 wish I had studied a language when I was a
26:01 kid . That means I did not study a language
26:04 when I was a kid . I wish I wish
26:07 I had . So what do I mean to past
26:10 actions together ? See this part when I was a
26:13 kid when I was a kid . So there's like
26:16 this past point in time , past point in time
26:19 . Uh , we are , we want to mention
26:22 this could be yesterday , it could be in childhood
26:25 , it could be in school . We tend to
26:29 use , I wish I had when we have this
26:32 past point in time , we tend to use them
26:35 together . So I wish I had studied a language
26:39 when I was a kid . Another point , a
26:41 pronunciation point . We reduced these sounds . I wish
26:46 I had studied this . I had reduces to ID
26:53 . A native speaker would say this sentence as I
26:57 wish I had studied a language when I was a
26:58 kid . I wish I had studied a language .
27:01 So I wish I had studied is what it sounds
27:04 like . Let's look at another example . This one
27:07 uses the should have should have pattern with this .
27:12 We don't always use a when I was something .
27:16 Something in the past . It's usually clear . Imagine
27:20 with this , I should have you're giving your past
27:24 self advice . Like your you in the past you're
27:28 getting advice . So I should have exercised more this
27:32 year . I should have exercised more this year .
27:35 Like past advice for yourself . Okay , then ,
27:40 I wish I had quit my old job earlier .
27:44 I wish I had quit my old job earlier .
27:48 This one uses a comparative form . I wish I
27:51 had quit my old job earlier than I did earlier
27:56 than I did . That's what this sentence is saying
27:58 . So I quit my job here . I wish
28:01 I had quit my job earlier than that . That's
28:05 what the sentence expresses . So express his regret about
28:09 something that did not happen . This did not happen
28:13 . Let's look at the opposite then I wish I
28:16 hadn't . So I wish I had not and I
28:21 shouldn't have I should not have these negative forms .
28:26 I wish I hadn't and I shouldn't have is what
28:30 this sounds like . These . Express regret about something
28:34 that actually happened , This is something that happened and
28:37 we feel bad about it . We wish we could
28:40 change it . So , some examples , I wish
28:44 I hadn't spent so much money last month , so
28:50 that means I spent a lot of money last month
28:53 . It was not good . So I wish I
28:56 hadn't spent so much money last month . Again ,
28:59 a pronunciation point , I wish I hadn't sounds like
29:03 wish I hadn't spent so much money last month .
29:05 I wish I hadn't spent so much money last month
29:08 . This h softens a lot . Yeah , I
29:11 wish I hadn't spent so much money . Okay let's
29:14 look at a shouldn't have I shouldn't have eaten so
29:19 much junk food this year . I shouldn't have eaten
29:22 so much junk food this year . Native speed .
29:25 This sounds like I shouldn't eat so much junk food
29:27 this year . This shouldn't have reduces to Chinna .
29:32 Chinna shouldn't eat so much junk food this year .
29:35 Yeah . Finally , I shouldn't have taken so long
29:40 to reply to your message . I shouldn't have taken
29:43 so long to your message sometimes . Like right here
29:47 I see a very common mistake . Learners sometimes used
29:50 to here . I shouldn't have taken too long .
29:53 I can't use that . I shouldn't have taken so
29:56 long to reply to your message . So that means
29:59 I took a long time . I shouldn't have taken
30:02 that long time . That's what's so expresses here too
30:06 . Is incorrect , cannot use too . Okay ,
30:09 you shouldn't have taken so long to reply to your
30:11 message . I'm sorry . So you can use these
30:15 to express regret . Something that happened . You feel
30:17 bad about something that did not happen , that you
30:21 feel bad about this is how you do it with
30:23 these two . Okay , I'm looking at your comments
30:27 now for Youtuber says I wish I had studied english
30:30 when I was a kid . Perfect . Great example
30:34 . Uh Cardiology says I shouldn't have bought these clothes
30:37 . We use these clothes clothes . So we use
30:41 this for like one object . This sweater . One
30:43 thing closes like a category . Uh Shima says I
30:49 should have learning german . Is it correct ? Very
30:52 close though . I should have learned german . So
30:57 past participle over learned becomes learned . I should have
31:01 learned german . Oh my gosh ! Your comments are
31:04 coming very quickly . So I wish I hadn't rushed
31:10 when I was taking my exams . I wish I
31:13 hadn't rushed . So make sure to use the past
31:16 participle form of your verbs . Yeah , everybody .
31:20 Um mm I shouldn't have studied history and maybe instead
31:27 of geography and Binkowski , I shouldn't have studied so
31:31 many , many , many of you . I think
31:33 a good study point for this lesson . Please review
31:36 your past participle verb forms . Yeah , I shouldn't
31:40 have studied . Mm I should have learned . So
31:44 please review your past participle verbs . Yeah , I
31:47 see that in the comments a lot . That's where
31:49 many mistakes are coming . Okay . Uh , someone
