03:01 Are you here ? Hello , facebook . I'm coming
03:03 for you . Uh it looks like facebook is also
03:06 ruling . Fantastic . So I'm gonna get started .
03:10 Where are you facebook ? Where are you facebook ?
03:12 Are you there ? Are you there ? Okay ,
03:15 good . Yes . Great , thai wallow and Kylian
03:18 and bo . Welcome everybody . Awesome . Okay ,
03:21 facebook is here . Fantastic . Let's look at today's
03:24 lesson boards . What are we going to talk about
03:27 today ? This , this is what we're going to
03:28 talk about today . I can't see it's very bright
03:31 today . Okay , today we're going to start the
03:34 lesson by talking about spaced repetition . I talk about
03:38 space repetition every once in a while because it's very
03:41 important . So we're gonna talk about that , we're
03:45 going to talk about uh where to find vocabulary lists
03:50 and some ideas for creating your study materials . And
03:54 then we're going to talk about how often to study
03:57 what to do to review how to make your next
04:00 steps essentially , so how to make sure you continue
04:04 to move forward with your studies . Okay , so
04:07 let's get started . Also if you haven't , please
04:10 make sure to like and share this video so other
04:13 people can find today's lesson . That would be super
04:15 cool . I'm going to share the video on facebook
04:18 and then I'm going to get started . Okay .
04:21 Alright share , share . There we go . Boom
04:25 . Oh , okay . So let's get started with
04:29 spaced repetition . What is the deal with spaced repetition
04:33 ? You've probably , if you follow this channel on
04:36 Youtube or this page on facebook , you have probably
04:40 heard me talk about spaced repetition before . So spaced
04:44 repetition is a study method . It's not only for
04:50 language , you can use spaced repetition to study anything
04:55 I can think of , anything you need to remember
04:58 . You need to memorize something . So like preparing
05:02 for a test for something . For example , you
05:04 can use spaced repetition to do that . What is
05:09 spaced repetition ? Oh my gosh . What does this
05:12 even mean spaced repetition . Here . The idea here
05:16 is you study a new vocabulary word , then take
05:21 a break , then review the word again , then
05:25 take a longer break than review again and again and
05:29 again and so on . Okay , this is the
05:31 basic idea of space repetition . Oh super chat .
05:35 Thanks very much for that . Uh Welcome . Okay
05:38 , so , oh , so if you imagine this
05:43 visually , imagine this as an image . Yeah ,
05:48 So new word , is that the star here .
05:50 You learn a new word . Then maybe at the
05:55 end of the day you review that word again ,
05:57 this blue line . Then the next morning you review
06:00 the review the word again , You wait a day
06:04 , review again , you wait three days review again
06:07 , you wait a week review again . So these
06:10 spaces are important . Taking a break between your study
06:15 sessions is important . You have to give yourself time
06:19 to remember the information . So this is the idea
06:24 with spaced repetition studies , spaced repetition studies . Okay
06:28 . All right . So this is the kind of
06:31 the focus point for today . All right . So
06:35 how do we use this to improve our vocabulary ?
06:40 A key point as always , is this review new
06:44 words and phrases studying once or twice isn't enough .
06:48 You cannot , in most cases read a word or
06:51 hear a word just one time and expect to remember
06:55 it . You need to review those things . Review
06:58 concepts , review phrases , review idioms , whatever you
07:02 need to make sure you are reviewing information to .
07:07 Okay , so this is another very common question to
07:12 start , especially if you're stuck somewhere . So what
07:17 vocabulary should I study ? What vocabulary should I study
07:20 ? So a guide . This is not a rule
07:24 , just some ideas for different levels of learners .
07:28 If you are a beginner , if you're a beginner
07:31 , look for what are called core word lists ,
07:35 core word lists . A core word list is a
07:39 list of the most common words in the language .
07:44 So like the most common like 100 words means the
07:48 100 words that are used the most in that language
07:52 . So like numbers , greetings and so on .
07:56 There are like about for most languages around 2000 words
08:00 or so to get conversational fluency . So this is
08:04 a great place to start using these core word lists
08:09 . If you're a beginner , you can start there
08:11 for intermediate learners , you can use of course core
08:16 words . Maybe finish your core wordless and then you
08:20 can find new topics in your life . So if
08:23 you are an intermediate learner you can probably understand some
08:29 daily conversations , maybe you can read things on social
08:32 media and in the news , then start looking for
08:37 new topics in your life . So your hobbies ,
08:40 things like that for more advanced learners You can use
08:45 news media and other current resources to build your vocabulary
08:51 . This is what native speakers do . I do
08:53 this to build my vocabulary . I find new words
08:56 all the time . Like we don't everybody , it's
08:59 impossible . I think to know 100 of a language
09:03 . So we are always building vocabulary . Always studying
09:08 . Okay , so again , review is so important
09:12 to do . You can't just study one time .
09:14 please make sure to review . Okay . All right
09:17 , so this is spaced repetition . Super important .
09:22 Way of studying . A super important approach to your
09:25 studies . All right . So that is part one
09:29 for today's lesson . Next , we're going to talk
09:31 about how often to study and how often to review
09:35 . Okay , so before we do one quick break
09:38 , if you missed it before this , 31 off
09:41 banner is about our teams premium and premium plus plans

10:21 out if you would like to study with us .
10:23 Uh there is a 31 off discount this week ,
10:27 so check out . Okay so onto part two for
10:31 today's lesson . If you have not , please make
10:33 sure to like and share this video so other people
10:36 can find today's lesson , that would be super cool
10:39 . Alright onward vocabulary study strategies . So next one
10:47 , Part two , how often do I study ?
10:49 How often do I review ? The best answer is
10:53 every day , every day . So a little bit
10:56 every day is the best . For example if you
11:00 study morning and night or if you study during work
11:05 or study breaks , like you make a habit in
11:08 other words , always in the morning , always at
11:10 night , always when you take a break maybe after
11:14 meals . So it meals lunch , breakfast , dinner
11:17 . Yeah , so the point creates study habits throughout
11:23 your day , creates study habits throughout your day .
11:27 So 10 minutes am and pm is 20 minutes a
11:31 day every day . So it seems like a short
11:35 amount of time when you do it , like only
11:38 five minutes during breakfast . Today is that enough .
11:41 It seems like a short period of time , but
11:44 with repetition and review , you get a lot of
11:47 practice , so make some time every day and you'll
11:50 build up a lot of information over weeks and months
11:54 . So make some time every day to do some
11:58 studies . Okay then this one is another common question
12:04 that viewers often have , I don't know what to
12:06 study next . People will get kind of stuck ,
12:08 I don't know what I'm doing , I don't know
12:10 what I should how I should look at vocabulary now
12:14 . So some ideas for you and if you have
12:16 ideas you can send them in the chat . Uh
12:19 we can all see uh your idea too . So
12:23 I don't know just study next . You can try
12:26 to read about topics that interest you in english .
12:30 So what are your hobbies ? What do you like
12:32 to do ? Do you have some like specific interests
12:36 ? Some kind of like science topic or technology topic
12:39 or culture topic ? Try to find some topics in
12:42 english that interests you . So think of the things
12:46 you like to do in your native language and look
12:50 for that in english . So that's a great way
12:53 to build your vocabulary . That's just for you .
12:56 You can find new vocabulary words this way another one
13:01 add new words to your flashcards or vocabulary study lists
13:07 . So not just reading or listening to new vocabulary
13:12 words but when you find new words put them if
13:16 you use like a digital vocabulary study app or you
13:20 have a flashcard app you can put them into your
13:23 lists for study or you can write them you can
13:25 write analog list too . I I like to actually
13:28 write new vocabulary words down . That's that's my favorite
13:32 thing to do . So add your new words to
13:35 your existing study lists . So that's a great way
13:38 to make sure you keep reviewing those new words .
13:43 Okay then review the words . So review those new
13:47 words that you pick up and review your readings to
13:51 see if you understood more . So for this one
13:55 uh you should consider , well this one is more
13:58 for reading . If you are looking at books or
14:01 magazines or newspapers that kind of thing . Read it
14:05 once . Like read a page one time pick up
14:08 the new words and write them down or study them
14:11 for a couple of days , then go back and
14:14 review your reading to see if you can understand it
14:18 again . So that's a great way to test yourself
14:21 to make sure you picked up those words . Okay
14:24 so do that again . Review is a key theme
14:28 for this lesson . Finally . Don't forget to practice
14:33 making questions with new words as well . So when
14:37 people say I don't know what to study next often
14:40 like a thing that they forget is that they also
14:43 when they want to participate in conversations need to ask
14:46 questions . So I encourage you please also study question
14:52 patterns . So use your new vocabulary to study question
14:55 patterns because those are extremely important in conversation . So
15:00 a few ideas for what to study next . Okay
15:04 . A technical ball says how do I join online
15:08 classes ? You can check the link below the video
15:11 if you want to find our lessons and courses .
15:14 And there are some live online classes available I think
15:18 maybe in certain time periods on our website to check
15:22 the website for more details . Okay . All right
15:25 . So this is part two . Uh Giancarlo Lannoy
15:29 says what if I can write in english ? But
15:31 I struggled to speak in english . Yes , I
15:33 will talk about this in part three . Speaking of
15:36 course , getting speaking practice with new vocabulary words .
15:39 All right , cool . So , oh , Jurin
15:43 has another tip . Singing songs in english . Yes
15:46 . Singing songs in english can be a great way
15:49 to get familiar with new vocabulary words . Uh ,
15:53 just be careful . You choose songs that are helpful
15:55 for your everyday life . Okay , other questions .
16:00 Um , let's see . I don't see other questions
16:03 yet . So , okay , we'll continue on then
16:05 to part three . Part three . So if you
16:08 are just joining . Today's lesson is about vocabulary study
16:12 strategies , vocabulary study strategies . We are talking about
16:15 how to study one . Study methods for vocabulary and
16:20 also where to find new vocabulary words , how to
16:24 practice them and so on . So you can share
16:26 your tips . Also a quick reminder google is your
16:30 friend as always . So sometimes you send me messages
16:34 online like Alicia please make a list of look like
16:37 construction vocabulary words or hospital vocabulary words . Don't wait
16:41 for me . You can google those things . Type
16:44 google into google like hospital vocabulary words . English you
16:49 will find . Okay so let's go to part three
16:52 then part three . Very quickly though I won't show
16:56 the picture again . If you missed it . There
16:58 is a 31% off deal . Uh english class 11
17:02 dot com for our premium and premium plus steady plan
17:05 . So if you want to study with us and
17:07 our resources you can check the link below the video
17:10 . If you're watching on Youtube or above the video
17:13 if you're watching on facebook to get it . So
17:15 check it out . Okay so let's go to Part
17:20 three . Part 3 . Who ? All right so
17:26 some ideas for your studies uh and some ideas for
17:30 how to improve the various aspects of language with this
17:34 . So first where do I find vocabulary lists ?
17:38 So some of you write to me and they're like
17:40 Alicia make a list of this Alicia make a list
17:42 of that . I have other things I have to
17:45 do . I cannot make lists for everybody . So
17:47 where do we find vocabulary lists ? You can find
17:51 pre made , pre made , pre made means someone
17:54 else made that vocabulary list . And you can access
17:58 it a pre made vocabulary list . So you can
18:01 use english class one on one dot com . We
18:03 have many vocabulary lists that you can use to practice
18:07 . Maybe some of you know hunky monkey is another
18:10 . It's a flash card program , a digital flashcard
18:14 program you can use to study like anything . So
18:17 these are some examples . I'm sure there are others
18:20 that I have not used . You can check that
18:22 out . Rocio . Hey one of our members is
18:25 how do we practice our writing ? I will tell
18:27 you my ideas in a bit . Okay so other
18:32 ideas if you don't want to use pre made vocabulary
18:35 lists you can make your own make your own vocabulary
18:38 list . So for example use your favorite website to
18:42 make a list of vocabulary words . So read the
18:45 website every morning or every night whatever and make notes
18:49 . What are the new words on that website ?
18:52 Hobbies . So think of your hobbies , what do
18:55 you like to do ? Can you talk about that
18:57 with other people ? Can you write messages about it
18:59 with other people ? Check out your hobbies ? Where
19:01 are the new words there ? Use your favorite tv
19:05 show ? These movies use music . So always actively
19:09 participating . So always listening are always watching . Looking
19:13 for those new words . Yeah okay then everybody is
19:18 asking how do I improve this ? How do I
19:20 improve that ? So study methods of course a key
19:24 for most people I think with vocabulary is using flash
19:28 cards you can use digital or analog flashcards . But
19:32 how do you study to improve a specific skill ?
19:37 If you want to improve your writing skill you need
19:40 to Right yeah so try making journal entries or diary
19:46 entries or build questions in a notebook . If you
19:50 can't ask someone the question , just write questions in
19:53 your notebook . Yeah . Or maybe you find a
19:56 question online . You think you can use write it
19:59 down To get better at writing . You have to
20:02 write . Yeah . So don't worry about making it
20:06 100 perfect . Every time in your journal entry you
20:10 just need to practice . Yeah so practice writing by
20:14 writing . Okay , read to work on your reading
20:18 skill . Make sure you read . So visit websites
20:21 that challenge you read newspapers . If it's at your
20:25 level , try magazines as well . If this is
20:28 difficult , if you're a beginner you can just use
20:32 Children's books . I've done it like start with the
20:35 same things that native speakers use to practice . So
20:39 if these things are difficult you can start by using
20:43 Children's books too . Okay speaking speaking so of course
20:51 to get better at speaking you have to speak so
20:54 you have to practice using new words in conversation .
20:58 If you don't have someone to practice with , talk
21:01 to yourself . Talk about what you're doing . Talk
21:04 about your day , explain it to yourself . Maybe
21:07 it sounds crazy but it's a way to get used
21:10 to making those sounds , a way to get used
21:13 to practicing using new words as well too . Okay
21:17 . All right . Um Then uh it's hard to
21:22 say it's very bright here . Study Oh yeah this
21:24 tip study words and phrases . This is for all
21:28 of these study method points . Study words and phrases
21:33 . Sometimes a group of words is an idiom and
21:38 we need to study it as one phrase . So
21:40 an idiom means it's a group of words together that
21:45 has its own special meaning . For example , it's
21:49 a piece of cake . So it's a piece of
21:51 cake . Doesn't mean like something is actually cake .
21:55 This expression , this idiom means it's easy , it's
21:59 easy . This is an example of a word or
22:03 a group of words you have to study together .
22:06 So piece of cake might be really confusing the first
22:10 time you hear it , you need to study these
22:12 idioms or here's another one . Let's bite the bullet
22:16 . Let's bite the bullet . What ? So a
22:19 bullet is the thing that comes from a gun ,
22:22 shoot a gun and the bullet comes out . So
22:25 to bite a bullet sounds really really strange , right
22:28 ? But this idiom means to accept . You have
22:33 to do something you don't want to do and you
22:37 do it anyway . So you do this thing that's
22:39 uncomfortable or you you're not happy about it , it's
22:42 painful but you have to do it . So you
22:45 do it . That's the expression . So don't study
22:48 only one word at a time . But think of
22:50 words in units to Yeah . Ahmed says I talk
22:55 to myself all the time . It sounds crazy but
22:57 it's effective . Yeah . I know right . Like
22:59 it's good to do . Uh I talked to myself
23:02 a lot in the kitchen like when I'm cooking I'll
23:05 think about what I have and what I need and
23:08 that kind of thing because it's really easy to kind
23:11 of practice for me when I'm cooking or something like
23:14 that . So in my case that's one of my
23:17 favorite times to practice using another language just talking to
23:21 myself is in the kitchen sometimes cleaning too . Yeah
23:25 . Okay . Uh jay , Jason Andres says I
23:29 speak so well by myself but when someone talks to
23:32 me I get nervous so I get confused . Yeah
23:34 , for sure . Everybody still does that . Even
23:36 native speakers do that in their native language . Right
23:39 ? So that's a confidence issue for sure . But
23:42 with practice again , with practice it becomes a little
23:45 bit easier . All right , So that is it
23:49 for today vocabulary study strategies . Maybe you found some
23:52 new ideas , but I hope the one thing I
23:55 hope you take from this lesson is review . Please
23:58 review . Uh review is so important and just keep
24:02 using those new words you pick up . If you
24:04 would like to take a picture of today's lesson boards
24:07 , I will show them to you one more time
24:08 . Here they are . So we talked about space
24:11 repetition . We talked about where to find vocabulary lists
24:15 and some study method ideas and we talked about how
24:19 often to study and how often to review . So
24:22 hopefully you found some new ideas . You've got some
24:25 new ways that you can study your new words .
24:28 So I hope it's helpful for you . What about
24:30 singing in english ? Yeah , someone mentioned that earlier
24:33 . That's another good way to practice for sure .
24:35 Just make sure your songs are helpful for you I
24:38 suppose uh in your everyday life . Okay , so
24:42 that's it for this week's lesson . Next week I'll
24:44 be back of course next week . It's gonna be
