02:02 yours to keep forever . Okay , let's jump into
02:04 today's topic . How to speak more of your target
02:11 language specificity and can do checklists . Every learner wants
02:16 to speak more in their target language . And yet
02:18 speaking is almost always the weakest skill for most learners
02:22 . So how do you fix this ? How do
02:25 you speak more ? Keep watching . These tips will
02:28 apply to solo learners and those with a conversation partner
02:31 first . Let's put language learning aside , let's say
02:35 you wanted to speak more about a certain topic in
02:37 your native language . What would that depend on the
02:40 length of that conversation ? Depends on how much you
02:43 know about that topic , Right ? If you don't
02:45 know much that conversation won't last long . If you
02:48 know a lot , you could go on for hours
02:51 . It's the same with language learning . The more
02:53 words and phrases , you know around a certain topic
02:55 , the more you can speak , it's a top
02:58 down approach . Make a topic for example whether and
03:01 work your way down , learn the relevant words ,
03:04 phrases and questions for that topic . For example ,
03:07 what's the weather like ? It's nice weather , it's
03:10 sunny , it's windy , I like sunny weather ,
03:13 I don't like rain . The more lines you come
03:16 up with , the more you'll be able to talk
03:17 about the weather in your target language . The point
03:20 is , if you want to speak more you should
03:22 start with a specific topic . Sounds obvious , right
03:25 ? So why don't most learners do this ? Most
03:28 learners don't do this because they're just passively following a
03:31 learning resource without going after what they specifically want .
03:34 It's much easier to follow a textbook than to stop
03:37 think about what you want to talk about and go
03:39 off in that direction . Of course you should keep
03:43 using your textbook or other existing resource . You can
03:46 do both Follow a resource and pursue specific topics .
03:50 But here are a few reasons why this tactic is
03:52 so powerful . First , specific goals always beat big
03:56 goals . For example , between setting goals like I
04:00 want to save money and I want to save $50
04:03 , you're more likely to succeed with the $50 goal
04:06 . But because you have a specific number to look
04:09 for and measure , You won't stop until that $0
04:12 becomes $10.20 . And then 50 . Same with language
04:16 learning between , I want to learn more words and
04:19 I want to learn 20 words . You'll do much
04:21 better with a specific goal . Yeah , 2nd you
04:25 get to speak more sooner . You can go try
04:28 the general approach of learning the 2000 most common words
04:32 , but that will take a long time and it
04:33 won't get you speaking any faster . But if you
04:36 pick a specific topic and get all the words and
04:38 phrases for it , you'll be much better off three
04:42 so you know what to focus on again , knowing
04:45 what to focus on , help you learn and progress
04:47 faster . Otherwise if you're just going through a text
04:50 book with no specific goal in mind , you'll spend
04:53 months on learning a language and never see any real
04:55 progress . So remember the more specific you are with
04:59 what you want , the more likely you'll get it
05:02 because you'll know exactly what you're looking for . This
05:04 is why we tell you to set small measurable meaning
05:07 specific monthly goals . Now what kind of topics should
05:11 you pick ? That depends on you and your hobbies
05:14 and interests . You can also start with common topics
05:17 like talking about yourself , your family , the weather
05:20 , or your weekend plans , but to make it
05:22 easy for you , here's what you can do one
05:26 download our free pdf conversation task list . Take a
05:30 topic to start with . For example talking about your
05:32 family , then take lessons inside are learning program based
05:36 on that topic . You'll learn practical conversations that you
05:39 can use in real life and as a result you'll
05:42 be able to talk more about your family to take
05:46 five or 10 minutes and write out other lines that
05:49 you want to use . Either in that conversation or
05:52 questions that someone may ask you and get them translated
05:55 with the help of our premium plus teacher three .
05:59 Come up with your own topics that are interesting to
06:02 you . Then repeat step to come up with all
06:05 the phrases , questions and answers that could come up
06:08 in that conversation , write them out and get them
06:11 translated with your premium plus teacher or translate them with
06:14 a translation software . You could try this and it
06:17 might not be perfect , but it could help you
06:19 start and get you speaking a little bit more of
06:21 your target language . The goal here is to be
06:24 able to talk more about a specific topic and as
06:27 a result speak more of your target language . So
